We're chasing Tim ******* Ludespud? Oh for ****s sake Victoria. Our first XI next year should be:

Dean
Harris
???
White
Finch
Christian (ugh, still prefer a young player here)
Gotch/Harper (+)
Pattinson
Siddle
Tremain
Holland

Maxwell is a certainty to leave.
fixed
Finch seems to have fixed part of his batting problems for the longer part of the game & is away for several parts of the shield season due to his duties in the ODI & T20 games.
Christian is the one that is taking up a spot of a young kid, his performances are mediocre, well in to his 30s & will never play for Australia again

AUSTRALIAN limited overs international Marcus Stoinis will return home to Western Australia next season.
Foxsports.com.au can reveal the 27-year-old’s decision is based on family reasons which Cricket Victoria are aware of.
Stoinis found it increasingly difficult to live away from Perth this summer — especially during the BBL — and won’t play for Victoria again given he is touring with the national team in India.
He shot to prominence with an unbeaten 146 for Australia against New Zealand in January, which is the second highest score by a No. 7 batsman in one-day international history.
However Stoinis’ move west can’t be confirmed until the MOU negotiations are complete. The lack of certainty beyond June 30 is holding up any potential Big Bash or State player transition, with only non-binding discussions allowed to take place until Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association have come to an agreement.
NO FLUKE: THE STORY OF MARCUS STOINIS
The uncertain future has dozens of out-of-contract cricketers in limbo around the country and player managers increasingly frustrated. As of June 30, every cricketer in Australia will be out of contract if CA and the ACA can’t come to terms.
In the short term, it’s believed Cricket Australia will make an offer to the players in near future.
The proposal will include female cricketers but won’t contain the contentious revenue-sharing model.
In other domestic cricket news, Tim Painehas been offered a job at Kookaburra in Melbourne and could make the move if Tasmania fails to offer him a new contract.
Paine forced his way back into the Tigers’ Shield team for the last three games of the season after coach Dan Marsh was sacked, making 130 runs at an average of 26.
Despite the gloveman’s international experience and strong T20 credentials, it’s unlikely the Bushrangers would greet the 32-year-old with a deal, instead preferring to focus their recruiting priorities on out-of-favour South Australian wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman.
The keeping vacancy comes as a result of Matthew Wade’s impending move back to Tasmania, while Peter Handscomb has solidified his position in the Test team since debuting against South Africa in November.
20-year-old Sam Harper impressed when he was handed the reins behind the stumps this season but had his campaign cut short after he was concussed in bizarre fashion at the Adelaide Oval in February.
Paine’s job with Kookaburra would still allow him to play BBL cricket across December and January but he’d more than likely have to push his case for a Shield spot via club cricket.
Ludeman grew up in country Victoria and is also poised to sign a deal with the Melbourne Renegades, where he will likely link up with fellow Redback Kane Richardson, who has almost certainly played his last match for the Adelaide Strikers.
Victorian coach Andrew McDonald spent two injury-riddled seasons in South Australia towards the end of his playing career and developed a close relationship with Ludeman, who has played 47 first-class games and notched two hundreds.
Ludeman fell out of favour with Redbacks coach Jamie Siddons this season and was replaced by 25-year-old keeper Alex Carey.
Another Victorian who could be on the move is Glenn Maxwell, however there has been little activity since the Bushrangers denied his request to join NSW last September.
Maxwell was then left out of Victoria’s first Shield game and incited controversy when he publicly criticised State captain and current Australian teammate Matthew Wade for batting above him.
In an ironic twist, the batting all-rounder notched his maiden Test ton against India in the most recent Test batting at No. 6, with Wade positioned at No.7.

do we have an ideal replacement in the wings, or someone to poach?
i don't follow the state cricket closely enough to comment about his ideal replacement!
but there has to be some young kid from Vic or interstate, on the verge of making the state side, would be a far better replacement for Christian, a 30 something yr old, journeyman that was a never was bean

Was just reading that young Puckovski is still struggling with issues as a result of head knocks...hope the kid gets back to good health

That's concerning as he missed the majority of last season due to concussion related issues.

media is saying White is handing over the captaincy. Handscomb to be named captain (although his number of appearances will be low if he's still in the Test team). Who else do we have as captaincy material?
I'd bet my bottom dollar that Siddle is VC and Travis Dean will be up there too (highly rated as a leader in CV). Finch probably will as well.

Feels like Holland's season has been very overlooked/underrated/dismissed by many. 50 wickets at a 20.78 average, 43.32 strike rate, 2.87 economy rate is seriously excellent, no matter what way you slice it, especially for a spinner.

Pretty much the same record as Chadd Sayers had this year (19.00 average, 43.19 strike rate, 2.63 economy rate), but bowling a lot less overs, so his wicket total was less. Chris Tremain also had a similar record (18.97 average, 42.31 strike rate, 2.69 economy rate), but again, bowled less overs, so the wicket total doesn't look as sexy.

But he didn't take 30 wickets in Sri Lanka so he is a dud, plus upsets the NSW fan club if anything positive is said about left arm spinners not named SOK...
