I am interested in hearing peoples idea on a combined membership lobby that exists solely to protect the existing Victorian Football culture.

I strongly believe that if we, the fans, simply stand back and do nothing, then within a few decades, only 3 or 4 of the existing Victorian clubs will be still be alive.

The current divide and conquer mentality will be our downfall.

We must take back the game now before we have been weakened to the point of no return.

Our code is much more than a game and it is as culturally intrinsic as Uluru or the slouch hat.

Our culture is at stake, will you join the fight?

I am not a Carlton supporter mate, far from it.

I look forward to my club beating them for a long time to come.

I am looking at the bigger picture, and I would state the same thing if it was the Saints that were in danger.

Why post this rubbish on the Melbourne Board. The only club that is going to fold is the kangas. Take this back to you're own board

You need to ask?

This has been posted on the North board.

I am seeing whether any Melbourne supporters have an opinion on it.

You have stated your opinion, maybe others have an opinion also.

You make it sound as though football was only ever played in Victoria. There are long histories of Aussie rules in WA, SA and Tassie which were put in the background upon formation of the AFL.
I think you may find that some of the earliest forms of the game were played in Kalgoorlie WA. I do agree however that it is not in the best interests of the comp to see any of the Melbourne sides go under.
All the best this weekend Dees!:thumbsu:

I would like you all to know that there are interstate trolls that are following me around the traditional club boards trying to derail this topic.

I like the idea but I think it's obvious that one or two clubs are on borrowed time. I don't like it but it will happen. Melbourne and North will just have to make sure it isn't us.

the one thing i think the melbourne clubs should be doing together is membership television advertising... they should all pool their money together and create an advertising campaign that represents all clubs... when individual clubs advertise they're only getting through to their supporters, a joint advertising campaign would allow clubs cost effectively reach out to their supporters...

Up your medication FlagMan, the paranoia is starting to kick in. I actually came to the Dees board to see whats going on with their club as we are playing them this weekend. Get a grip.:)

Under the current structure, then I believe up to 6 clubs will be gone from Victoria in the next 20 years.

Unless we unite.

Yes, there is no reason as to why North, Melbourne, Carlton & the Bulldogs could not pool together resources for many things from training and medical facilities, to promotion and advertising.

I couldn't give a stuff what happens to Carlton. I am loving their current situation at the moment. I also hate Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond and Hawthorn. I am a Melbourne supporter, not an ex-VFL lover.

Doesn't mean I want to see any clubs fold, especially the Victorian clubs, but there is no way I want to see my club "siding" with any other club.

The only clubs I'd support an "alliance" with would be North/Footscray/Hawthorn because they're the clubs most likely - along with us - to get butchered in the next few decades. The "big four" can stick it.

Flag Man,

Your concept is interesting but is it feasable?

I would like to see and would buy something like a combined North-Dogs-Dees membership that would entitle me to each clubs home games in Victoria (11x3) General Admission.

The only thing in question is the cost & whether it would be commercially viable for clubs to do so, if it was say $350 & no more I would definitely buy it for a few reasons.

* I work shift work and can't always make my team's game.

* Helps out & bolsters support the three poorest sides in the league - who are only under threat because of off field adminstrative problems which by and large are beyond the people who matter most - THE FANS & PLAYERS - control.

* Generally these sides perform well & play attractive football, on field.

If everyone was of the same attitude I'm sure you would see a huge amount of fans pool together. But are they?

Slander, I am testing the waters for a lobby group to help protect the interests of the weaker victorian clubs (Melbourne being one of them).

I have not seriously entertained a combined membership ticket, however, your proposal is very interesting.

In an ideal world all the funds and resources of the game would be pooled and distributed equally.
