Roast The WCE Subi Experience

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Go to the bloody big bash if you want f**king acrobats and flame throwers and music during the game.
Not sure what that has to do with the OP at all.

Just like you, I go for the experience of watching the boys play footy. My complaint is that most of the fun of that is sucked out by the general atmosphere created at the game.

Well the thread is about the Subi "experience" some complaining about the lack if entertainment etc. I just don't think that sort of pre/mid game entertainment is really that necessary, but I get that others would like it, an it will likely be a part of the new stadium.

Atmosphere at the game is a little different I guess, like people have said, the feel at a final is great, regular season games are different, and with how shit we have been the last few years it's not surprising that people aren't jumping out if their seats when we dish out our usual rubbish.

Considering a stroll down James St after 10pm on any night will undoubtedly introduce you to a disgruntled meth abuser, I tend to agree with them.

Fwiw I really enjoy watching games in Melbourne and razzing the **** out of opposition supporters, so I'm keen to tag along with anyone else on here in 2015.

Of course, none of that goes on in Melbourne though. Yeah.

Went to my first game this year and I'm in my 3rd year of membership. In real life I'm a pup compared to many experienced members on this forum. Note I said experienced, not old. Age is a thing of the mind, just ask Dustin Fletcher. The game was big Coxy's final subi game and I enjoyed it for the most part. However, I found the crowd chants on the big screen to be a bit forced and the fake crowd noise made me cringe. I had a great time though and particularly enjoyed some of the choice words aimed at Jack Watts by some of our supporters. I did feel the crowd was a bit lackluster, but then again it was Melbourne and Coxy didn't exactly do anything that made us jump out of our seats.

Just wait to we are good again.
The crowd noise in this game was sensational, even when we where behind in the first quarter.

Just to add something. A fellow I know is doing some work for West Coast teaching some of their members to use computers as all of your membership stuff will be online either next year or the year after with no option for anything else. So these are all aged members he's working with.

He goes along and sets up some decommissioned laptops I supplied and they set to it.

He was telling me yesterday that there are 12,000 West Coast paid, full members over the age of 60. :O

Most people are actually criticising the 'entertainment' so I think you're in agreement in that regard.

It's no excuse that people aren't 'jumping out of their seats' just because we haven't been dominating. We're not the Demons for Christ's sake, we are still competitive and should be making as much noise as possible regardless.

The 'experience' throne was referring to was exactly that - most people want to go to the footy and get revved up as it's one of the few opportunities we get to scream at strangers, have a few beers and swear without getting arrested.

You need to consider though that as memberships cannot be transferred within a family (unless they have an unsecured note attached, and even then for a fee) there would be a portion of those members who have "given" their memberships to their adult children, who pay the fee now etc.

Judging by that last paragraph you need to get out more :)

The venue is shit; the team have been mediocre for most of the last 7 years; the style of footy hasn't been great; our star midfielder has a made for radio playing style; we haven't beaten a top side in a meaningful game in forever; many of our members are old - which among other things means fake excitement is more difficult when they've felt real excitement. The entertainment wouldn't see the light of day at a decent high school in the US, it seems organised by a local country women's association - its embarrassingly awful.

But the venue trumps all else. It's like trying to get excited on a super shit airline, while the person in the seat in front of you is in full recline and you haven't eaten and its hour 14 of the flight ....

I try my best (if only I didn't spend every Saturday night trawling bigfooty) My comment about sanctioned aggression is relevant to everyone though, regardless of age/gender etc. A main reason why we enjoy live sport is because it gives us an outlet, and if the Subi crowd is preventing that from happening then maybe we're not getting our money's worth.

I guess I used to play sport for my outlet. I find most games "in the outer" these days create more frustration than they release. It's like a whole ground full of numpties. :)

I do enjoy a live game though but more in a corp box. Old age :)

While there is some different food at the WACA, mainly the fresh roast beef rolls, it is still shit compared to MetLife and other US stadiums. It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement on the current Subi food, which (while still poor) has improved over the past few years.

I'll be at Metlife in 6 weeks, any recommendations?

Read today that you can actually transfer memberships to immediate family, which I didn't think you could either.

http://www.wcemembership.com.au/faq-category/renewals

Due to the club’s large wait list, membership transfers are only permitted between immediate family members.

If you wish to transfer your seat to an immediate family member, please return your renewal invoice and payment information with a signed letter of permission from the current seat owner. We also require documentation to prove the immediate family relationship (such as a birth certificate). Documentation must be posted to the Membership Services Centre, PO Box 1305 Subiaco WA 6904.

If you are looking to transfer a seat that is currently attached to an unsecured note, please contact the Membership Services Centre on (08) 9388 4566 to obtain the appropriate documentation.

That's not surprising at all Tazmania. I think all us Eagles supporters are hoping that the new stadium will allow WCE to open up more membership spaces, and change the dynamic of the crowd

More booing, less old campaigners?

Still just as many old campaigners (they're still valuable fans), just more younger people
Hoping that by 2018 we will be in premiership contention and there will be a whole lot more to cheer about than boo about
Freo will have lost a few of their stars by then and could be comparable to the present day St Kilda

No wonder we have a funereal atmosphere. A third of the crowd have one foot in the grave. Can you imagine the reaction if the club had tried a Port Adelaide style 'never tear us apart' singalong'? "Eh, what's that bloody noise! Can't they play some Val Doonican or Harry Secombe?"

The food and beer is crap and overpriced, the crowd is old and boring, the eagles are mediocre at the moment, but I still can't wait to go to a game at Subi when I am back in Perth.

Compare it to going to the EPL here in the UK: Cannot drink during the game (and before the game and half time the bars have to be 'not within sight of the pitch'), you HAVE to be segregated from other fans and when visiting older, suburban stadiums you are sitting on a wooden bench in a stand that was built over 100 years ago.

Sure the Subiaco experience isn't perfect, but it is a cyclic thing. The new stadium isn't far away, and the boys will hopefully start pumping a few teams at home, that will definitely add to the whole experience!
