I did a quick analysis of overall frees for/against for Richmond since one of the flogs at work was using that as the reason for us getting so close.

It turns out that Richmond have the worst frees against record for the entire season. They only won the free kick count in two games. So really it makes no difference, that is, unless your frees are in front of goal, as was the case with the Dustin Martin free for holding the ball against Naughton.

I think they are coached to concede frees to slow down play outside the 50m arc.

Hawthorn were masters of this too.
