So you see no benefit having the capacity to select a draftee in the 3rd or 4th round of the draft ahead of a later rookie list pick... strange.
Just how many clubs do you think will be queuing up to snavel Dunny if we opt to drop him down to the rookie list? Schade aside, I can't think of too many instances where that's happened.
Not sure how ensuring he has another year at the club in anyway tarnishes his "esteem".

I have no issue drafting more players if it’s viewed the way to go.
Equally if it is viewed that way I’d be stunned if the shears wouldn’t cut out more than enough players.
Re the big dunny, you are probably correct and no club would snag him
But for him it would be a risk not close to worth it.
My main point which you’ve touched on re esteem to him.
I think quite strongly for a player like him it would be a dreadful way to treat him. And not called for in my view.
I’m all for being ruthless but not with the people you really want and need.
Simple to me, do I want Dunn next season? Absolutely without equivocation.
Hence no dice the rookie idea.
The club can knock itself out with doing such things to Oxley, Blair, Smith, Kirby even.
