Hard pass. Port extending his deal doesn’t move the needle on him.

Can’t knock Venables just because his career has been derailed by one head injury. Not like we drafted a guy with bad knees who then did his knee, this was a one off freak accident. Venables was showing good signs.

SPP in a game style that requires you to hit a target by foot would have been something to behold.

To be fair, Cockburn still cop plenty of flack for selecting Pitt instead of Darling.

Pitt played 10 games in his first year before retiring due to his serious heart irregularity at the start of his second season.

Got even less of a look than Venners did.

Since when did fairness ever come into bagging the Dockers and standing up for the F*cken Coasters?

Freo shat the bed drafting Pitt over Darling. West Coast followed a sound process and was unlucky in the results when drafting Venners.

Venners did get a good look at a premiership cup from up close .

Ha ha we hid darling and perpetuated rumours of off field issues.

I've heard rumours his parents answered the phone saying he was out drinking with his mates when recruiters called .

And we all remember the tent incident.

That was 400 goals ago .

Good times

Lol Pitt was very highly rated. Most expected him to go to GCS before pick 10 and he slid to Cockburns pick 20.

190cm with elite footskills from memory.

I honestly think Peter Bell (Roos) is about the only person in the entire Cockburn organisation that has ever touched a premiership cup.

JL? No.
None of their squad have...
Pavlich hasn't (Ahahaa)

Perhaps if Lecras was still a part time goal kicking coach?

To be fair before the concussion it's not as if the general opinion of DV was that high particularly due to his performance in the GF and his inability to accumulate possessions given he was drafted as a mid and had some early comparisons to Shuey.
Felt like his reputation grew post-concussion.
I personally saw plenty of positives in his game but he just needed to figure out how to get his hands on the ball more.

Better pick than Venables? Probably. Not that difficult when Venners is dead.

Better pick than Galucci? Yes

Better than Berry? No sir.

Ironically we were all petrified we might get English, and he would've been a very good selection.
Berry is a gun.

English still needs to prove himself to me. Can run around getting a bunch of cheap possessions but is garbage at actual ruckwork. If that's what you want, then just play an actual midfielder.

Based almost purely on his hair...

English is a spud.
Disagree with this.

He's hardly the finished product (ruckmen rarely are at 23) but has plenty to work with. Needs to find a happy medium between bulking up a bit and retaining his running game.

English is going to be one of the most valuable players in the game in a few years IMO.

All he has to do is fix getting his hands on the ball more for hitouts, and that's literally it. He's still a huge man with a decent leap at the CBD's.

It's his only weakness right now, and given he's only just learning ruck craft and was a midfielder up until a few years ago, it's understandable.

Agreed.

Biggest issue is he’s just not strong enough. That can be fixed with time. he’ll never be a monster but just needs to gain enough not to be monstered.

So, all he has to do is actually learn to be a ruckman :tearsofjoy:
