It would make sense but they hardly ever listen to us fans. They may just be giving the new jumpers a run then bring the clash in latter on. I myself like the clash, even more so now that I own one but we play so badly in it I wouldn't mind seeing a rejig.

2 questions..

1st is does anyone have a 1995 jumper? or away? never remember seeing one.

also why did the eagles change there jumpers basically with 4 rounds to go in 1988 does not make sense

I know the sponsors are wrong but I couldn't be bothered changing and swapping them.

Right.*

For random convo and cos I love the eagles. Here goes a a list of suggestions that I would at some point like to see. I understand it's more To do with manufacturer, but like the rest of this board, we can all dream.

Suggestion one:*
Club has a history of numbering players. As seen lately in the 25th year anniversary jumper the players were listed numerically as to when they debuted.*
What I have suggested and would love to see is somewhere on the front of the jumper and not even particularly obvious, is the number the player is. Kind of like a baggy green, wearing a jumper carries prestige and it's a privilege and not a right to wear it. You will forever be player YYY for your team. *Geelong did this with Their 150th *jumper. And I'm of the belief the the Melbourne football club honored players with ties at their 150 celebrations. And I'm also of the belief that the Eagles did do this in 2006 for the 20 year celebrations, presenting each player with a a team 20 jumper with THIER name and playing order number on it.

Pros of this: prestige and a privilege of playing for the mighty eagles.

Cons: honestly, I can see how sewing/sublimating a three digit number about 10mm high and 25mm wide would have any down falls as it doesn't affect the jumper in any way.

*************************

Suggestion two:
Est 1986 on the back above the number. Similar style to the BBFFC on the lions jumper.

Pros: correct year of establishment. Symbolic of when the club hit the league.

Cons: Can see some on here saying its un-necessary. Possibly to to the belief it'd clutter up the back. Plus, we've already gone with the 1987 and as much as that shits me, it would probably be confusing for the un educated in football jumpers and club establishments. But then again, WCE do sell at the team store gear with Est 1986

*************************

Suggestion three:
Here are the bold suggestions for the jumper aesthetically.*
Stretchy side panels. For aesthetics only. Could be another way to Add some color to the jumper.

Pros: would look shmick. Club could sell replicas which would generate more $$$$ for the club.
Although they've done "replica issues" in the past, this would be more of a way for a retail replica to be better identified by the average jumper collector. Would look good. Other clubs have done it.*

Cons: again, some will suggest un-necessary. Could interfere color wise with the wings.*

************************

Suggestion four:*
Grippy spots on Front ala wallabies Jersey from a few years ago and the Sydney roosters jersey below. And some NRL jerseys have them too.*

Pros: would look aesthetically cool. Could help midfielders on a wet night. Hence why it's on the rugby tops.*

Cons: would possibly mean more grip for opponents to grab onto. Which is something most clubs are trying to stop by having tight jumpers. And how much use would someone like coxy get out of it?

***********************

Suggestion five:*Two parts covering the numbers
Part one: player numbers on front, like the WAFL and state jumpers.*

9ee04dd8.jpg

Pros: be able to see the players number on the front, which would be helpful if say you didn't know who Blayne Wilson was. Would help for this watching tele at home too for those who didn't know. Easier for the umps to report players :), looks good.

Cons: could clutter up the front, specially if it's on a clash, could interfere with AFL logo etc.*

Part two:
Breathable numbers similar to the socceroos jerseys of years gone by, would look pretty cool and futuristic for a jumper in the AFL. Would also mean breathable. ( future suggestion)

Pros: would look cool, and players would be comfortable, considering its pretty warm in Perth.

Cons: would have to be a mesh like material, and if not the same material as the jumper, would mean sewing, which would mean they can be grabbed onto and more jumpers ripped.*

*************************

Suggestion six:
More breathable jumpers. *As suggested in the last suggestion, Perths a bloody warm place, even in winter. WCE play in more hotter weather, like the lions and suns compared to Vic based sides for example. In effort for more comfortability for players.*
Something along the lines of using the previously suggested side panels to use a mesh for example too, to let air flow through. Keeps they boys cool, which would help in fatigue and core temperature. Or breathable panels on the front.

Pros: again, could be sold and makes more money for the club. Would look aesthetically nice. Would even be more cooler for the average footballer (you and I) to train in. Looks cool when done right
Photo below, unfortunately haven't done research, but if it's the breathable holes I believe that they are ( or the grippy spots) then itd look similar to this.*

8547af6b.jpg

Cons: would probably in some way impact the overall strength of the jumpers. Which in turn would mean more ripped jumpers. Even as suggested, if you and I use them, one tackle at the park would rip a jumper, and not everyone can afford a new jumper ever time it rips.

****************************

Suggestion seven:
Another watermark suggestion. Years 1992, 1994 and 2006 have to be somewhere on the jumper. Shows history, shows success of the club and puts fear in the eyes of those who see it.
My suggestion would be either a small*1992, 1994 and 2006 under one arm down the side of the jumper. Or a little bigger down the back of the jumper below the SGIO or BANKWEST logo.

Pros: again. Shows the success of the club and for those to be presented with a jumper, shows them the pride and what the clubs success is.*

Cons: can't really see it being a hindrance truth be told. Should be incorporated into the jumper in some way.*

***************************

Suggestion eight:
Final suggestion before the knives come out.*
This one covers a few things. Just the last random tidbits.*
Gps pocket on the inside should take a leave out of a mixture of a collingwood and Adeliade jumper.*
Now I know, I know, associating ourselves with them is a cardinal sin. *But do read on.
It should have the theme song and a monogram of some sort (like Adelaide's)
Maybe after all that long winded stuff, that's whe the est 1986 could go, similar to the Adelaide's and the theme song there too.

@cammania.

Lightweight jumpers have been tried and tested before. I know Adidas had them. I remember checking out a Crows "bib" design, and the material was thinner, with a pattern not unlike Nike's 'NikeFit' soccer material. I'm guessing they might still have it. Blades use them as well. However, most people don't like them. Unaffectionately titled "toilet paper jumpers", they're certainly odd looking. I'm certain it would make little difference. This because of the tightness of footy strips these days. The reason thinner material works in the NBA and soccer is because garments are baggier. Even if they're fitted and tailored (ala Umbro's recent soccer range), there's still a gap between skin and shirt. That isn't there in football. Without that space, you can't wick away sweat.

I do like your idea about introducing two types of consumer jumpers. The regular, polyester material could retail for what it is now. Yet a jumper with side panels, non-cotton cuffs, and some watermarks could retail for $170. I dunno.

Us Eagles people paid $160 for the latest range of player issues, which were essentially retail's. Can't see a "player cut" guernsey going for more than that.

They did do a run of home jumpers that were exactly the same as player issues except with no numbers. Watermarked eagles logo. Elastic in the jumper. Player cut etc.

As for lightweight jumpers. I own some Adidas jumpers so I know what you mean. Lighter weight would be good. But something breathable would also be cooler for the players as I said.

Skies the limit with jumper designs but unfortunately the powers that be only reach the roof upon which they are sitting under.

One day when I get a new desktop and consider designing jumpers myself, I'll probably bump this thread or part two and discuss and show more then.

re: cammania's post

best idea is the number above the AFL logo. people complained (on this board) about the 'cluttered' 'billboard' look of collingwood's, specifically this

Collingwood-CFA-2010.gif

but AFL uniforms look fine, even if Port Adelaide for example had numbers above the AFL logo, the club and sponsor logos on the other side I wouldn't complain about it 'cluttering the V design' or anything, not just because our uniforms are among the cleanest in pro sport but it doesn't look bad anyway.

the post is full of Eagles wank though. I don't care about the number on the neck but the watermarks thing is just silly and isn't intimidating in the slightest. and then what is the last point, u want the club song on the jumper.....? i don't even know if i understood that properly

Right

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I was mearly posting a whole heap of things, ideas, suggestions and thoughts on a jumper. It is the footy graphic design thread, where people can come and design jumpers and showcase Thier works, thoughts and ideas. I used west coast as my example as that's the team I pay my hard earned to eachnyear in the form of memberships, jumpers, numerous trips across to watch and pump more money into the club by purchasing merchandise.

I use an iPad. Not really my cup of tea/ practical for such designing skills, so I put my input in with the input of thoughts and suggestions.

Oh and as for the theme song on the jumper, tell that to collingwood.
