Up to the last episode in Season 4, have really enjoyed this season. I love Bunk more and more each episode :p

Then I have to go back and watch the episodes again that have commentary, before finally embarking on the 5th and final season.

Is it really that good?? I cant believe it could be better than the sopranos or deadwood. The characters in these shows were just so well put together. You really cared about what happened.
I have had a few people tell me about the wire but i have watched a couple of episodes on tv and cant get into it.
Another good show is battlestar galactica. off work injured at the moment and have watched first 3 seasons so far- very good.

Better than both IMHO, Deadwood primarily because it was unfinished. As for The Sopranos I like it a lot but IMHO its overrated.

I got season 5 over from the UK today. I've been waiting for it to come out here for ages. Was due in August but never came. It's been out for years and we can't even get it retail in Australia. It's a bloody joke.

No shit. Ive been checking stores every few weeks and still nothing! **** sometimes I hate our isolated country!

Both times I've watched the entire series I have not noticed any product placement whatsoever. Pretty low on my 'things to whinge about' list really :D

One word. Heineken.

Try online US stores. With the dollar at 90c at the moment, it's a great time to buy.

dvdpacific.com has it for AU$51.88 + postage.

Or you can pick from this list

I'm guessing this has something to do with Nine's delay of screening it on FTA. Lots of DVD releases seem to be tied in to that.

I can't remember the last time I bought a Region 4 DVD. For movies, Region 1 usually has better extras, and for TV shows, it can be a long wait for a local release.

Whats with JB selling it at $75 dollars a season. Was put off but sounds great. I ended up getting The Shield instead at $16 a pop. Hopefully its half as good.

Anyone know where to find The Wire seasons at a good price?

I've only just discovered this show on ABC2. Went to JB and bought the first 4 seasons for $20 each.

Generation Kill on the other hand is different, it isn't so much product placement traditionally, more putting in products that the rolling stone guy wrote about. Not on the same level as that massive Converse plug by Will Smith in Irobot.

I'm miles behind and only just finished watching the first season. The only product placement I noticed was in a bar scene with Kima her gf and 3 other chicks. Kima is swigging on a stubby of Fosters.

I was sceptical when people told me it was better than the Sopranos. But to be honest, it leaves it for dead. There are so many levels of characters and it is superbly put together.

Surprisingly the only character I disliked throughout the series was McNulty, who was supposedly the protaganist. Found him to be a childish, ego-maniac.

He was one of my favourites. His attitude wasn't driven by ego but by the bureaucracy, politics and bullshit of the department. He wasn't arrogant he was frustrated and angry.

McNulty loved his job and simply wanted the resources to properly investigate cases... blokes like Rawls and Burrell only cared about figures and numbers, often created using smoke and mirrors.

I understand that, but McNulty is like a petulant kid. The argument he has with Freamon in Series 3 I think illustrates this. He's not in it for justice, he's in it for the personal satisfaction. The job is his life - he betrays everyone around him as a means to an end. In fact I'd argue that the only reason he acts as he does is to defy authority. To him its not about helping anyone. Its about winnning. As Landsman says it makes him good police, but he's not a good person.

But when Kima got shot he said himself the whole thing was just a way to show everyone how smart he was, which was why he felt guilty

Yep, McNulty is an arrogant, egomaniacal arseh*le, but that’s what makes him McNulty and that’s why we love him.

David Simon comments on this in one of the commentaries. How they totally subverted the formula of a traditional TV show, and their protagonist was someone who was self-centred and self destructive.

Just rewatched 4-12 and 4-13 with commentary, then the Season 4 extras. Should start on Season 5 this weekend.

I had taken a break from The Wire to watch the first two seasons of Las Vegas :)
