First watch through I didn't like it as much but it's probably my favourite in subsequent viewings.
Season 4 is strong as well.

Season two is probably remembered for getting people sucked in, simply because it takes a while to get down with the lingo. I struggled for the first few episodes because all of the vernacular is real – it's not fake 'black talk' – so you have no idea what's going on. Then there's the two 'sides' and it's not made clear, and agendas are mid-way through happening, there's a full ensemble, every character is important... it is overwhelming but in retrospect it's perfect. The way it's so claustrophobic and intense mirrors the whole show's point... people feeling crushed by the pressure of their world.

Just finished my 3rd re-watch, still in the unpopular camp that thinks BrBa is a better show. Still can't split The Wire and The Sopranos.
Shut up campaigner. John Lithgow season of Dexter was best.
Been planning a rematch of this but realised I lent season 1 to someone and never got it back. Will have to visit in but got the first 4 for 12 bucks each so need a sale.

Watching S1 with subtitles for the first time was a blast, I had no idea how much I was missing so it's become my fav, 2 is not far off tho.

Only just saw this, not to harp on it too much, but not even close to top 10? Would love to see that list!
I can see cases for a handful of shows (The Wire, The Shield, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones) but I struggle thinking of 10 better, let alone the 'not even close' comment.

So you're right that the 'not even close' comment was probably a bit of hyperbole, but still, you see my point.
Edit: The Shield was another one I didn't rate too highly but I think that suffered as I watched it after seeing The Wire.
Fair enough, some decent shows there but quite a few a consider vaaaastly inferior to BB and The Shield. Like Westworld and Stranger things just started... Hah.
I'd probably only add BoB as caseworthy out of that list, but opinions are opinions.

Yeah it's hard to judge one season compared to a complete series but can only base it on what has been released so far. Westworld especially was one of the best single seasons of a show I've seen. It is a bit of apples/oranges though as 9 times out of 10 a series will go down in quality as more seasons are made and shows like Westworld/Stranger Things haven't had a chance to do that yet. Lost s1 would be up there all time, but the show as a whole.... yeah, nah. Time will tell if that happens with the other ones. The list will change as shows improve or diminish.
Yeah opinions are opinions. Mad Men is another one that's roundly praised but I just didn't like at all. I get my list would be mostly disagreed with and that's cool.
Anyway, how good is The Wire?!?!

Season 2 is my favourite but then again I worked at the Ports for a long time so a lot of it resonated with me. Bit surreal watching the Super Bowl drunk at 8am a couple of years ago when an ad popped up featuring all the actors who played the Sobotka family appear as a gang of bank robbers.

I struggled with the Corner. The Wire is an ultimate show but I think it was far too similar and just generally a watered down version.

Watched it. Found it on foxtel demand. Trip to see the same wire characters in completely different roles but must say, I enjoyed it. Every episode got better n better.

Trying to get some of the muppets at work to go watch this. As none of them have seen it but as I keep saying this is the only must watch tv show ever. Instead they keep talking about 13 tapes or some crap.
