I imagine black actors were pretty bummed when this show got cancelled. Hard to think of another show or film that would have offered so many solidly written dramatic roles.

My favorite scene would have to be the investigation of the dead girls house that D'Angelo talks about with Bunk and McNaulty, and the only word they use for all the dialogue for the entire scene is shit. Briliant peice of television.

And if you exclude Omar  ;) I'll have to go with Bubbles, Frank Sobokota the Lester Freeman/Prez double up or Major Rawls. (He just cracks me up) but I agree with Shane, you could list 20 favorite characters.

Wasn't it fa rk fa rk fa rk... Awesome scene.

Bubbs was a great progression, was so sad the 5th series until the end when he was still living in his sisters basement, until the last sequence when he was allowed upstairs. Bubbs finally working himself out but having none until the end.

I also like Pres too, from a complete nut who was freaked out by anything and everything to a guy who knew what was going on and caring bout his school kids.

Also one of the best characters was the kid from season 4 and 5, forgotten his name... the one Nehmin (spelling) used to pickon for being dirty and smelly, Pres looked after him and I thought he was going to make it... nope he got hooked into the same cycle as his parents. Sad but so the truth.

what an amazing series all round. Must admit series 5 for mine was a bit of a stretch

The great thing about the guy that plays Bodie is the way he spits. Its just so spot on.

I've also got a lot of time for Marlo too, especially in that final 'my name's all I got' scene.

He a cold mf.

yea the very last scene of Marlo (edit) leaving the up-town meet and greet to go back to the streets and bashes the two blokes on the corner and the look of contentment and joy it brings him! He and Barksdale are one and the same.

First post the kid you mean is Dookie, and second post you mean Marlo.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

One of my favourite lines is when Stringer and Avon are sitting on the balcony talking about 'the game'

Avon says words to the effect of: "Remember how we used to sit on top on the towers talking aboutb how we was gunna be the man, run this show. And you was always saying you was gonna open a big chain of stores, go national?"

Stringer replies: "Yeah, and you was wondering where we could get an AK"

season 4 done and dusted

just edged out season 3 for me as the best so far

got that PLYMOUTH ROCK, love how whenever they go to the street you hear em yelling that stuff out

not happy about bodie, loved the scene with him and jimmy "you're a soldier bodie" great line

jimmy cant stay sober can he?

Sounds like I'm years behind the ballgame, but this is now my addiction.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Best show I've ever seen, and only 1 1/2 seasons in. TW is seriously consuming my life, from the soundtrack to the characters, and I love it. Leaving work early and a casual dinner tonight to cram in another 4-5 episodes.

You may find it hard to believe, but it actually gets better.

Seasons 1-3 were great, but seasons 4 and 5 some of the best television ever made.

My msg tone is the drug runners and kids yelling "5 ohhhh" (think thats what it says)

and my ring tone is Omar whistling down the alley way.

By far the greatest show ever made!

Shhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiittttttt!!!!!!!

Just watched the 5 series off the back of this thread.

I don't profess to having seen every show ever, but it is the best one I've ever seen by the length of North Calhoun Street!

Sublime.

I'm up to Season 2 Episode 3.

Had never watched it until I bought the series.

Not sure about everyone else, but I always watch the whole DVD, all the extras, all the commentaries. Really enjoyed the commentary on Episodes 1 and 12 of Season 1.

At first wasn't sure what you meant, but i'm guessing the distinction is that while neither of us had ever seen the show before, i actually paid for the DVDs while I assume you sourced it from other means (not making any judgements, just trying to understand what you meant). Thing is, I was a huge fan of Homicide: Life On The Street which is also a David Simon production, so I knew I would love The Wire.

Show was recommended to me recently and I've done the same. Great show. The lack of genuine cliffhanger moments threw me off a bit, but it's still gripping television in it's own way.

Gotta admit I was disappointed the second season went in a completely different direction to the first, but once you've seen the whole story it all fits together nicely. Superb stuff.

Seasons 1 and 4 were my favourites. I was skeptical at the number of new characters being introduced each season, but there were very few let downs.

Best moment of the show:
Nick Sobotka showing up early in Season 5 to yell at Carcetti during a press conference at the docks. After the Season 2 cliffhanger ending you bastards make me wait two and a half season to find out what happens to him?! Sheeeeeit!
