I bit the bullet at $30 a pop for The Sopranos. Good move.

The complete Sopranos box set is on sale at JB for $219 currently, which is roughly $30 a season but with large amounts of added material.

Amazing bargain, especially give the ridiculous cost of each individual season.

For fans.
Favourite character?

For me : Stringer & McNulty.

The guy who played Stringer was brilliant IMO.

Note : Liked Cutty as well.

Hmm, tough Q.

Bunk is probably my fav overall character.
Colvin, Norman, Wallace, & Ziggy were all also great.

Hate Cheryl and Templeton the most.

I am reading David Simon's book "Homicide" at the moment and would definitely recommend it to all the fans of The Wire. It is definitely in the spirit of the show, and I hear that "The Corner" is just as good, too.

The book is class. There's entire scenes from The Wire in there.

Generation Kill, both the book and the movie are excellent too.

The Corner is quite good - seen the mini series, not read the book.

Best Wire character: Chris from the crims, and Bunk from the cops.

I thought Snoop was an awesome character. The opening to season 4 was one of my favourite scenes.

Honourable mentions to Omar(of course), McNulty, Lester, Bunk, Carver, Gus, Slim Charles, Bodie, Wallace and Stanfield.

To be honest I could probably list over 20 characters, there were so many great ones in the show.

Yep, that nail gun scene is just so chilling.

What's even better is that they don't actually use it to hurt anyone.

The whole time you're thinking they are going to use it on some poor bugger, but no, they actually use it for what it is meant to be used for.

My favorite scene would have to be the investigation of the dead girls house that D'Angelo talks about with Bunk and McNaulty, and the only word they use for all the dialogue for the entire scene is shit. Briliant peice of television.

And if you exclude Omar  ;) I'll have to go with Bubbles, Frank Sobokota the Lester Freeman/Prez double up or Major Rawls. (He just cracks me up) but I agree with Shane, you could list 20 favorite characters.

Why the hell would you want to exclude Omar? The fact he is the easy choice is due to how good the character was.

Bubbles my next favourite street character, closely followed by Stringer and Snoop. Also had a soft spot for Dukie in season 4, especially when he eventually became a street junkie.

Frank Sobotka and Ziggy my favourite port based characters, have to watch this season again.

Totally agree with this, although I think the word used was f**k. They used almost every inflection of the word you can think of, very clever and very funny.

Shit doesn't start with an F.

I loved the scene in the last series when McNulty invents the serial killer and the FBI profiler starts to describe the perpetrator and McNulty starts to squirm as he hears a pretty accurate description of himself and all his problems.

Saying Omar is your fave is too easy because Omar is one of the greatest characters written in ANY kind of fictional production, be it TV, movies, stage, books, whatever.

Its like saying ice cream is good.

The brilliant thing about The Wire is its depth and complexity.

That's why characters like Prez and Bodie and Chris and Carcettis chief of staff whose name I forget are such gold.

Well, if we take Omar as read, then mine is Bodie. Loved his interplay with McNulty, the "contrapment" scene in S3 and eating together in S4 were two of my favourite bits of all The Wire.

Trying to hook my housemate into watching it so I can do a massive rewatch (cheah!), unfortunately my Dad has pinched seasons 1-4 off me.

The great thing about the guy that plays Bodie is the way he spits. Its just so spot on.

I've also got a lot of time for Marlo too, especially in that final 'my name's all I got' scene.

He a cold mf.

They're all great scenes.

Marlo is awesome as well. So cold and so methodical through the whole thing until that scene when he loses his shit in when told about Omar's threats

been watching season 2 online, anyone know where you can watch it online and its not youku or megavideo

So many underrated scenes and characters - especially amongst the crims. All of the New Day Co-op scenes had me in stitches - "You're taking minutes. Of a criminal conspiracy"

Leaving aside Omar as the obvious choice I'd have Bunk, Clay Davis, Stringer, Prop Joe, Herc and Carver all amongst my favourites.
