The Shield is on my "To Buy" list. Never seen an episode, but I'm a sucker for cop shows. And I hear it's violent so that suits me just fine :thumbsu:

7th and final season DVD was released today in the US.

there really are massive differences between the 2

the shield has alot more cliffhanger at the 1 minute before the intro credits and 59 min just before the end credits, when its on its on though no doubt

i always say the wire is more mature but the shield has more highlights

enjoy

If you like the Wire you need to source Generation Kill, another David Simon series. It is only 7 episodes long but is again another fantastic viewing experience. Ziggy from series 2 is one of the main characters, he is again very good but nowhere near as annoying.

I disagree, Generation Kill has absoultely nothing in common with The Wire. I found it an overly cheesey, a very poor mans Band of Brothers.

Difference being everything depicted in Generation Kill actually happened.

Its based on the book of the same name.

I thought it was based on the accounts of the Rolling Stone reporter who was traveling with the unit. US army actually placed media people with the troops like that knowing that they would get to know them and write favorably about the troops and the war.

Yep, the RS reporter was an embed. But not everything is favourable and having read the book and seen the series, its pretty accurate.

I reckon its in pretty much the same style with the viewer very much plonked into the middle of things and having to work out whats going on. I ended up loving it.

I can't wait for his new series Treme.

A lot of the characters (and to a lesser degree, the plotlines) in The Wire are based on fact.

Take the character of Felicia 'Snoop' Pearson. The actor who plays her (same name as the character) genuinely grew up in West Baltimore, raised by drug addicts and sentenced to 8 years at the age of 14 for shooting dead a rival drug dealer.

l have only started watching this show, and l am starting to really like it and some of the language in the show is pretty crude but I'm loving it

R U serious? You must have just watched the firetruck episode :p

I'll finish Season 2 tonight :thumbsu:

Probably finish Season 3 within a couple weeks.

The ending montage to season 2 is one of the most heartbreaking things I've seen on television.

Brilliance which continues in latter seasons.

Thinking about it, Season 2 might actually be my favourite...

I remember getting officially 'hooked' in season one, the episode where Kima get's shot in Orlando's car. So season 1 is a sentimental favourite, but season 3 might be my favourite overall. Omar going nuts on Barksdale, Hamsterdam and Bodie, Stringer running the operation like a corporation etc was a very good season.

5 was pretty awesome too.

agree with that season 3 was some serious viewing, season 2 was my least favourite, i just didn't really give a shit about the docks, the actors were fine i just wanted them to get back to the street or watch the cops

i loved it when bodie was pumped up and the street was rocking

I thought that at first too, but after a marathon viewing to finish off the season, I couldn't get it out of my head. Season three (at first) almost seemed like an anti-climax.

My order (today anyway!)

Season 2
Season 4
Season 3
Season 1
Season 5

*It must be said that Season 5 is still better than 95% of other tv shows made ever.

its probably realistic what they say to each.its was little crude what one of the bangers they picked up was calling the bl@ck female cop a mother fing cu*t eater and heaps of other things.its was pretty bad but funny at the sometime l am almost done with season 1 :thumbsu:

4 was probably one of the best, story wise, but I was really emotionally invested in the Barksdale crew, so to see them scurrying about and getting stood over and finished made it less enjoyable. Bodie getting pushed off his corner etc. mind you, season 4 Omar was the deluxe Omar. He handed out multiple irl banhammers that season and lifted a huge shipment of heroin, retiring to the bahamas, what's not to like?

My favourite season was 3 I just love the way the story of the Barksdale crew ended.

Followed closely by 4, 2, 1 then 5. Season 5 badly need to be the normal 12 or 13 episode it was just a bit to short.

haha yeah in the courtroom. Great scene.

"I shot the boy mike-mike in his hind parts"

"I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase, but it's all in the game"

Probably one of the best scenes in television.
