FTA-TV The Wire

Guys,

The is this best show Ive ever seen IMO. I'm disappointed I only got onto so late! The above scene is gold by the way :D

I half way through series two, watched series 1 in one weekend :o then bough the next series. Find myself watching it until the AM then ending up ****ed for work, but its all in the game. ;)

Its one of those shows that truly gets better the longer it goes on, as more layers are revealed. Its just so disappointing that 80% of people are idiots, and the only way you would ever even know about a show like this is through someone recommending it to you.

I'm half way through Season 3. Will probably watch a couple more episodes after the footy tonight. Feel a bit ripped off that it's only five half-seasons. I want more dammit!

I watch all of the extras too, so if any episode has commentary, I'll watch the episode a second time.

For those that like The Wire, I suggest you check out Homicide: Life On The Street, another Baltimore cop show written by David Simon. Homicide will probably always be my favourite TV series.

I've just started re-watching this for about the third time, and somehow it's gotten even better. Draws you right in from the very begining.

Thanks for posting that Amazon link for the Homicide set. I've been waiting for ages for them to re-release that. Was temtpted to get it from eBay a couple of times but it cost a fortune and postage was through the roof. I just hope the dollar doesn't drop between now and September. Not sure if it's the same file cabinet packaging as the first set, but for under $200 (hopefully) I can't complain.

Fairly sure it will be the same set, they probably just sold out first time round. You will need to devote a lot of time to watch them, 122 hours I think!

Region one DVD though, will they work here?

Of course. Most if not all DVD players can be made region-free. If they aren't sold that way, just google your DVD model and look for a code. Usually involves some Street-Fighter type combo with your remote and voila, region free. I have bought DVDs from Amazon, Amzon UK and Yahoo HK and all have played fine.

Some DVDs never get released as Region 4 so bugger that, and bugger waiting forever in the hope it might get released here. And I always check DVD Compare to see what Region has the least cuts, best extras etc, so I often still buy Region 1 even if it's been released as Region 4.

after watching the first 2 seasons,l am looking to buy/get the next 2 seasons l see that the price has gone up not $16/$18 as it was @ JB HI FI now season 1 is over 40 bucks its a really great show and I'm loving.it but its not like its new

Just went into JB on Bourke st and the wire is down to under $20 and they have a deal where you buy 2 and the 3rd season is free. So you can get the first 3 seasons for $40!!!!!!!!!!! It's a deal so good I almost bought them again!.

I am fairly sure that season five gets a run tonight at 12pm on Channel Nine.
I am sure most will have all already seen it, but still good news for it to be getting some exposure on free to air TV, especially as its not on pay anymore.

Having downloaded and loved the first season and just started on season two, I couldn't run down to JB quick enough when I saw that I could pick up four seasons for $60. Problem is I'm now paranoid about reading anything (like this thread - or the back of the newer DVDs!) that might spoil any upcoming surprises. But I figure S1 was awesome enough that it was worth taking my chances in here just long enough to show it some love.

Try now. All JBs should have the Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal on, which includes The Wire.

As I said, I'm re-watching the series and having just finished season 1 I have to say that the scenes where Kima gets shot and all the cops listening to the tape in the hospital are some of the most powerful I've seen on TV. Funny how the lack of "dramatic" music actually makes it more dramatic. I guess it's the equivalent of shit comedies needing a laugh track.

"You, McNulty, are a gaping arseh*le. We both know this."

I grabbed The Wire S1-4 and 30 Rock S1-2 for $80. Certainly a bit to watch over the next few weeks. Yet to see any of The Wire but hopefully it'll be a worthwhile purchase. Reading this thread it will be.

I'm up to the last episode of Season 3. Will then have to re-watch 3.11 and 3.12 for the commentary, then watch whatever extras there are on Season 3 Disc 5.

How mad was the lesbian scene with Kima? Sucking on those chocolate t***ies :thumbsu:

Gun battle breaks out at Wire actor's baby shower

A teen was killed after a gun battle broke out at a New York baby shower hosted by US actor Jamie Hector, who plays cold-blooded drug lord Marlo Stanfield in TV drama The Wire.

Almost 50 bullets were fired outside Hector's Brooklyn party on Sunday, killing 17-year-old Linton Williams and injuring two others, the New York Daily News said.

In a scene resembling something from Hector's gritty TV drama, one of the gunmen then followed one of the injured men - Andrew Filson - to hospital and shot him at least once, the Daily News said.

"What a gun battle," a police source told the Daily News. "They have been watching too much TV."

A neighbour, Lisa Bruce, described seeing a victim hiding in the bushes and covered in blood.

Hector, who plays the ruthless drug lord Marlo Stanfield, was believed to have been at the baby shower for some time but it was not known if he was present when the gunfire erupted, the Daily News said.

The 33-year-old threw the party to celebrate his wife's pregnancy, local media reported.

Police found two guns but no arrests were made.

The Wire is known for its brutally realistic depiction of street crime in Baltimore.
