Last night I finished Season 4 (schools) and thus far it's been my favourite. I can think of a few reasons why;

Very little mcnaulty
Very little Kima
Herc was shown for the fwit he is
New Major in town
Daniels is finally respected
Ross and Irvin Birrell are taken down a peg
Omar features heavily (and he's my favourite character)
Incredible insights into the restrictions of growing up in such a poor demographic
Insight into foster care and wards of the state and how state processes put kids in danger - this certainly is the case here, england and the us
some excellent irony

Loved it, downloaded season 5 and can't wait to start watching tonight. :thumbsu:

Like wise, just finished watching s4 today and it's been brilliant - agree with everything you've said although Herc is fine IMO, bit of an idiot but nothing too annoying.

Only downside was Bodie getting killed, my fav character minus Omar. Was shattered when he got gunned down, despite being another corner boy, he actually had principles and rules as opposed to Marlow; likewise he gave a shit about his boys.

Trying not to read much of this thread, don't wanna reveal any spoilers to myself but this series is up there with The Sopranos. Cannot believe I didn't watch it when it came out.

Bodie getting iced was shocking and knew it was coming the moment he kicked the police car door.

edit: lol, i just used the expression "iced"

regarding herc, he was responsible for the end scene with Randy. He has alot to answer for.

It wasn't until the final episode i realised snoop was a girl.

Bodie was my favorite character in the wire, by a fair stretch, and i always thought he was undersold, by marlo, the stanfields, by the writers, everyone

so for him and mcnulty (who to me was the barometer of the wire) to have this amazing scene, where a cop and a crook leave the corner and Bodie then basically unloads with how he's been screwed over, but not whinging about it, just stating facts, was brilliant

mcnulty in that scene is terrific as well, very giving as an actor.

just the fact there's birds chirping, there in this park, i mean its the frigging wire, and when jimmy says "you're a soldier Bodie" i remember watching it screaming YES!!!!! he is a ****ing soldier, it seemed to me like finally he was being recognized

and i knew they were going to kill him off as well

Season 4 is the greatest season of TV ever imo

Co-sign, the characters made s4 so ****ing good - can't help think that s5 won't be able to step up to it. Randy, Naymond, Snoop and Carcetti made it so good, the election stuff was intriguing but the wars on the corners just overshadowed it.

regarding herc, he was responsible for the end scene with Randy. He has alot to answer for.

Forgot about Herc inevitably screwing over Randy - felt sorry for the poor kid especially when Carver couldn't help him.

Quoted for the truth - everything you've posted is spot on.

Bodie was the quintessential poster boy for how a corner boy should be. Never stole from a package, always followed orders and took care of his boys. Had a set of rules and obeyed them always, even if he didn't like them.

Was awful to see him crack after all the shit he went through but all it took was the death of Little Kevin thanks to Marlow being an nutcase. Can't help but think he could have been bigger than Marlow and Barkesdale put together, kid have morales and learnt so much; felt it wasn't right to see him get popped off like he did - at least he went down like a true solider, didn't back down and wasn't fearful.

"Hard Wired to a life in a grimy universe far away
BY SUZY FREEMAN-GREENE

We walk Melbourne streets but a part of us is in Baltimore. Stuck in a grim, going nowhere, American city, listening to barely comprehensible street patois, glued to the fate of drug dealers, rogue cops, weary teachers and bent politicians. We are Wireheads. Hopelessly addicted to one of the greatest TV shows.
The Wire premiered in America in 2002 and ended six years later. It is now showing on ABC2. Early adopters might sneer that we Wireheads are so last decade. But we don't care about dates. We're living in Wire Time, suspended between series one and series five on our precious DVD sets....."

Good question. Why can't we produce a The Wire?

Nutty Icelanders!

“No one has to be afraid of the Best Party,” he said, “because it is the best party. If it wasn’t, it would be called the Worst Party or the Bad Party. We would never work with a party like that.”

With his party having won 6 of the City Council’s 15 seats, Mr. Gnarr needed a coalition partner, but ruled out any party whose members had not seen all five seasons of “The Wire.”

Just finished Season 1, finally got around to sitting down and properly getting into it. Good to see a complex cop show with so many levels and a continuous storyline.

Sopranos is next on my watch list...but better get back to seasons 2-5 now...

they used her real name for the character in the show.....

Pearson was born to two incarcerated drug addicts and raised in an East Baltimore foster home. Born premature and weighing only three pounds, she was not expected to live. She was so small she was fed with an eyedropper until she could be fed normally.
Instead of attending school, Pearson worked as a drug dealer. At the age of 14, she was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a girl named Okia Toomer and sentenced to eight years at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup, Maryland.[1] Pearson said her life turned around at the age of 18 when Arnold Loney, a local drug dealer who looked out for her and sent her money in prison, was shot and killed. It was he who had given her the nickname "Snoop" because she reminded him of Charlie Brown's beagle Snoopy in the comic strip Peanuts. While in prison, she earned her GED and was released in 2000. She landed a local job fabricating car bumpers, she says, but was fired after only two weeks when her employer learned she had a prison record.
Pearson is openly gay.[2][3]

Season 4 is the best TV I've ever watched. One of the few times I've been gutted when it actually finished.

Must confess i shed a tear and was heartbroken when they played the ending montage for the final season and you see the young doofus kid whos name i cannot remember shooting up with the old scrap metal man
