Finally got around to watching this after hearing so many good things, and just finished S5 tonight.

Phenomenal. Just phenomenal. Best non-comedy show I've seen yet.

My favourite scene is Snoop buying the nail gun in the hardware store. Every line is classic but the best is below.

"Yeah man, man says if we want to shoot nails this here's the Cadillac. He mean Lexus but he ain't know it"

My favourite as well. :thumbsu:

1/2 way throught the 4th season of Oz atm, its outstanding.

Only show to come close to The Wire imo, thanks to those who recomended it earlier on this thread.

And to those who like Deadwood, what was interesting about season 2???
i found it very ordinary.

Season 2 is when Hearst really starts to make his presence felt via Francis Wolcott. A brilliant character. The Pinkertons also start to exert their influence with Ms Isringhausen coming to town. Highly entertaining and intriguing.

Find me a better scene of two cops investigating a murder

I was the same. Was thinking "This show's not bad, not sure what's really going on though". Then I saw that scene and knew it was the show for me.

Unlike film, there's been an abundance of quality tv shows in the last ten years. Shows like deadwood, breaking bad, boardwalk empire and the sopranos are excellent, but they aren't in the same league in my opinion. It nearly got cancelled a few times because of poor ratings (makes you wonder, shiiiiiiit) but thank god it didn't. I don't think it will be topped.

Also as a few others have said, that scene with Bunk and Omar on the bench is amazing.

Had to bump this.

Have watched all 5 series last 6-8 weeks and this has to be the best series ever. I love Breaking Bad and Deadwood but this surpasses both.

Fantastic social commentary and agree with some reviewers who have said it's like a great American novel.

Loved the way they took chances every series by focusing on different areas. The ports, politics, education and the media. All handled brilliantly.

So many great characters and acting performances.

Not really a big cop show fan in the past but this shits on all of them. If you haven't seen it do yourself a favour.

Favourite 5 characters (yeah very tough to near impossible, but what the heck)

1. Omar
2. Bunk
3. Stringer Bell
4. Prop Joe
5. Clay Davis

As far as television drama goes we're in a golden era at the moment I find. Perhaps money has been poured in this realm for DVD and HBO etc but god damn there's still brilliance out there I haven't seen.

Agreed. Just amazing tv. The series with the school is just angry, political, making such great comments about the state of the nation. Absolutely stands alone in my opinion.

Bloody oath! How terrible have films been in recent years, on average? Who in their right mind would choose Film over TV in the last few years? There are so many gems out there that I have yet to watch, and a few more that I haven't even heard about. Thanks to BF, I've just grabbed Inside Men, Top Boy and The Shadow Line. Looking forward to them.

Just caught the back end of an episode on ABC2. The first scene I saw after flicking over was 'Bunny' trying to convince Wee-Bey to let him look after Namond. Reminded me how amazing this show is. Very next scene I catch Bodie gets capped. My heart drops. Having only watched ten minutes I am still emotionally involved with these characters. Best TV drama of all time. Oh indeed.

I watched the entire series twice during late 2008 - early 2009, absolutely adored the show and it also got me into David Simon's other brilliant work, like his Homicide novel and tv-show of the same name, The Corner likewise, and now Treme.

While I agree that The Wire is practically untouchable, if Breaking Bad's upcoming final season is the best season of the series and wraps it all up expertly, it would have to come close.

For anyone who has only watched this fantastic series once, do yourself a favour and watch it again. Believe it or not, it's more enjoyable the second and third time around.

Finally getting around to giving this a look after hearing nothing but good things, I am 3 episodes in and TBH was that unimpressed by the 1st episode was nearly going to leave it there.

Is it likely to grow on me?
