I found myself slowing down the last few episodes, not wanting it to be over

Yeah s2 is a slow burn and a big left turn but I love it. S3 hits ground running from the start

I was the same, after being drawn into the characters and setting of the housing projects. Then all of a sudden that's gone and now you're down on the docks with a bunch of white people. Didn't like that at the start. But after probably watching it 5 or so times I don't mind it anymore. Definitely my least favourite season.

This seems to be the prevailing opinion but I'd say S2 was almost my favourite season once I got over the jarring effect of them suddenly switching settings so dramatically.

Conversely, I'd read people raving about S5 long before I got to it but I found it the most underwhelming of the lot.

the final montage of s5 is great and the death of a certain character also done well but the focus on the local newspaper and mcnulty's story line were really clunky and not as well thought out as previous seasons.

Would be fascinating to see how this show made today. Not remade, to be clear.

It ran 2002-2008 which is recent history but technology has changed so much. Pay phones, landline wire taps, coded texts on burner phones etc. Every aspect of the show would be impacted by modern technology. Can you make a whole season about the paper when "journalists" just publish online what they find on X?

On our first rewatch, Season 2 made so much sense. And despite it being the "weakest" season, on our second rewatch, we really loved Season 5.

A friend just started rewatching from the beginning and I'm tempted to join him. Such a brilliant show from start to finish.
