I think Marlo wanted to be a legend of the streets. His name had been slurred, saying he wasn't "gangsta" and he took offence to that. He didn't fit in with the white executives, the streets and the corners are him and his life and he wanted to prove that he could still runt hem.

He might have been sent to prison again but I think he cared more about his rep.
Yeah well said.

Geez, talking about these 'what ifs' just makes me want moar!

hey guys, hope you don't mind me posting!

Proposition Joe was probably my fav character of the series.

Favorite series runs like this:- 3,5,1,4 and 2.

Also not sure if anyone's picked up on this, but we all know David Simon liked to use the series as sort of a vehicle to show the issues that plague real life urban america. But the biggest story from season 5 was the inability of the newspaper to pickup on the fact that the murders were all fake. That's the biggest swipe he took at his old workplace, the baltimore sun. Due to all the cut backs etc, a newspaper could miss such a monumental story.

McNulty confronting Templeton about his fabricated stories was incredible. McNulty basically saying that they were both caught in their own lies, but that McNulty had a reason for doing what he was doing. The whole fabrication of the homeless murders by the police and the newspaper was brilliant television.

I only found out about that after the show. I wasn't aware David Simon was a journalist before moving into writing.

Yeah I agree, that was extremely satisfying.

McNulty didn't give a shit, either.

I loved the scene at the FBI where they analysed McNulty's "killer", and the look on his face.

Hahaha, that was so good. Greggs was like, "What do you think?" and McNulty says, "Pretty close."

Best part of season 5, and possibly all seasons.

McNulty is in the elevator, it's when Daniel's has just found out about the fake deaths.

Elevator doors open, Daniel's enters, then shut, you're just waiting for Daniel's to rip McNulty a new arseh*le, he just keeps quiet, not even looking at McNulty. Absolute silence.

Elevator doors open, Daniel's exits, turns around and looks McNulty in the eyes and goes "To be continued". The delivery and strength of the line was perfect.

Seriously, such an awesome show.

My favourite characters:

Bodie Broadus
Cedric Daniels
Howard Colvin (Hamsterdam was such a brilliant idea, pity it looks bad politically)
Omar Little
Stringer Bell
D'Angelo Barksdale

Series in order of preference:

3, 1, 2, 4, 5

Was originally dirty the way they killed Omar off, it's like you didn't get a goodbye, I guess that's what made this show so great and realistic. I doubt if it was true life he wouldn't get a "movie ending" shoot out with the bad guys and walk off into the sunset, he was just another player on the street with a gun. Really bought me back into reality when you see him as just another toe tag, not the superhero I was hoping he'd become.

We sound like we have fairly similar opinions on the show, DD.

I loved the character of Bunny. Hamsterdam was a great idea. ****ing Herc, such a shit police.
The Wire first though. Brother Mouzone and Omar omg so much win.
I also loved when these two teamed up.

Too bad GW is still up to season 3, so can't view this thread for at least a few months. :p

Really? I didn't think he was evil at all.

Scary, **** yes. I'd hate to have him as a boss.

I just reckon he was all about looking after numero uno, which meant sweeping things under the rug, keeping McNulty schtum etc.

But I think he showed that he was probably a really good (if not crooked) police back in his day, and the episode when Jimmy lost it when Kima was shot, showed that he (Rawls) had a conscience.

Nup, I hated him, which means that he was a great character.

Levi was the biggest prick for sure.

Was the typical evil lawyer, keeping murderers out of prison just so he can line his pockets. Did he actually have a clean client? Not sure how people like that can sleep at night.

Whomb,

When Herc snitched on Hamsterdam I was fuming, just proved he couldn't see the bigger picture. Kids were playing freely on streets again, families were happy, but he just didn't get it.

That's also when you knew Carver would make a great police, he saw past the free zone and understood how it helped the rest of the city.
