Henry Cavill is still looking a little too handsome and cinematically badass to me. I'm hoping this is just the trailer editing and that he nails the more deadpan Geralt I would like in the show itself.

Yeah, but they're unlikely to show him as deadpan in the trailer.

Also on a sidenote, I see a lot of book elitists looking down on the video game fans. In my opinion the books really weren't anything to write home about as books in and of themselves, and there's absolutely no way this show would exist if it weren't for the games so I don't really get it. Seems like a 'nerd cred' thing.

Like GOT gamers vs GOT readers?
Or just something you feel?

The trailer looked sick as, lots of nods to the games as well.

Watch the bit where he casts aard at the 3 guys and dust comes off them doors open.

And for all the poo pooing of the casting yen and ciri looked fantastic

Yeah that second trailer was puzzling. It undoes all the hype built from the first. The editing choice was really poor.

Still. It's not going to deter me. The costume, setting designs and production looks absolutely insane.

The financial Times broke the review embargo before pulling the review.

You can tell whoever wrote this has absolutely no idea about what the witcher is.

Considering he goes around killing monsters on request, the improbably chiselled and gruff Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) gets no thanks. Some of the ladies give this black-leather-clad hunk with the long silver hair the glad eye, but the more usual greeting is a curt “We don’t want your kind around here!” Even after he’s rid the village of a giant, pond-lurking spider. With its medieval stylings, sprawling narrative and liberal dusting of magic, Netflix’s The Witcher is presumably intended to fill the Game of Thrones-sized hole in viewers’ lives. Not forgetting the daft names. Fringilla. Stregobor. Jaskier.

Should they need to?

Well if you are reviewing the show after having apparently seen 5 episodes and you don't understand why everyone hates witchers then either the show has done a terrible job or you have no ****ing idea.

And since her last points were it's not got and the names are dumb despite got having people named neddard, danerys and khal drogo then you can probably lean towards the reviewer just being an idiot.

Criticising an adaption for adapting the exact names from the source material...

Disappointed that Geralt now appears to be reduced to a single sword bearing character, what happened to the old Steel/Silver combo ?

It's on roach, why carry around two swords just take the one you need.

It's been covered a fair bit in the past on social media that it's based on the early books where - as Sterge mentioned, he kept it on Roach. So I guess they're just staying true to that detail.

The games have him carry 2 just because you are cutting about the world running into all manner of shit, it wouldn't make sense having him go "hold up i need roach for my other sword."

I haven't read the books but carrying around both swords doesn't seem to make sense outside of the games.

I haven't read the books either but I believe early on in the saga, monster encounters were more more rare so he didn't always have it with him.

Incorrect, first two books are almost exclusively short stories about monster encounters. After that it opens up to be more political machinations and the Ciri story line.

But he knows what monster he is hunting and packs the appropriate sword right.
From what i have heard the silver sword is rarely used

I see.

FWIW, the TV series showrunners have indicated that monsters will be pretty light on in the 1st season, citing a pretty small CGI budget.
Similar to GoT - it's expected to grow with the success of the show in future seasons.
