Just in case you were wondering:

St.Kilda 26
Kangaroos 13
Hawthorn 11
Sydney 11
Melbourne 10
Fitzroy 8
Richmond 5
Geelong 5
Essendon 4
Bulldogs 4
Brisbane 3
Carlton 3
Collingwood 2
Fremantle 1

West Coast, Adelaide and Port Adelaide have yet to win one.

Seeing teams have been in the competition for differing periods of time, I decided to also work out the average time between wooden spoons. Therefore the ladder looks like:

St.Kilda (26 spoons over 109 years) = 1 spoon for every 4.19 years
Kangaroos (13 spoons over 83 years) = 1 spoon every 6.38 years
Brisbane (3 spoons over 21 years) = 1 spoon every 7 years
Hawthorn (11 spoons over 83 years) = 1 spoon every 7.54 years
Sydney (11 spoons in 110 years) = 1 spoon every 10 years
Melbourne (10 spoons in 108 years) = 1 spoon every 10.8 years
Fitzroy (8 spoons in 100 years) = 1 spoon every 12.5 years
Fremantle (1 spoon in 13 years) = 1 spoon every 13 years
Richmond (5 spoons in 100 years) = 1 spoon every 20 years
Bulldogs (4 spoons in 83 years) = 1 spoon every 20.75 years
Geelong (5 spoons in 108 years) = 1 spoon every 21.6 years
Essendon (4 spoons in 109 years) = 1 spoon every 27.25 years
Carlton (3 spoons in 111 years) = 1 spoon every 37 years
Collingwood (2 spoons in 111 years) = 1 spoon every 55.5 years.

I reckon Carlton would be looking at making a move on the top four within a decade.

Who knows, in 30 years time they might even be the new #1.

Given we won't win it this year i find that very hard to believe mate.

In 30 years time your Grand Final drought will be 47 years!

Perhaps we can compile a list of Grand Final chokes, it would look something like this:

Collingwood

daylight

more daylight

even more daylight

Geelong

Bulldogs would feature in there somewhere, seeing they last won in 1954.

can't see the interstate teams winning the wooden spoon on a regular basis.

brisbane and sydney in the early days trying to find their feet in their respective states struggled at first.

so did the formation of the fremantle football club.

port, west coast and adelaide and the above 3 have a huge home ground advantage over the clubs. given they play 11, sometimes 12 or 13 home games, they should always at least finish with a minimum of 7 - 8 wins a year.

Sydney did the hat trick of wooden spoons in the early 90's from memory

Home ground advanatge isn't everything, if you've got a crap playing group and/or your going through a rebuilding phase your going to lose regardless

Or maybe we could compile a list of the AFL's proven cheats:

Carlton.

That is all.

Richmond have won 4 spoons but in one season out of 4 teams due to war Fitzroy won the wooden spoon AND the premiership.

This meant that at the end of the finals series, Richmond were last.

BUT.... since wooden spoons go by the home and away season it is debatable who deserves that spoon.

ive always wanted to know that, does the afl actually give a spoon to the club, or is it just a term for coming last

Happy, the wooden spoon was originally associated with the Mathematical Tripos at the University of Cambridge, and was a kind of booby prize awarded by the students to the person who achieved the lowest exam marks, but still earned a third-class degree.:)

Hawks 1 every 7 years....lol

10 of the 11 spoons were in the first 30 years of the club's history when we came up from the lower comp. In fact, the last spoon was in 1965.

Richmond's 4 spoons were all in the last 40 years with another one due this year.

I'd rather be following a team that hasn't come bottom since I was born.

Last 40 years - Hawthorn 8 premierships, 0 wooden spoons
Richmond 5 premierships, 3 wooden spoons

St.Kilda (26 spoons over 109 years) = 1 spoon for every 4.19 years
Kangaroos (13 spoons over 83 years) = 1 spoon every 6.38 years
Brisbane (3 spoons over 21 years) = 1 spoon every 7 years
Hawthorn (11 spoons over 83 years) = 1 spoon every 7.54 years
Sydney (11 spoons in 110 years) = 1 spoon every 10 years

 What a complete disgrace from these clubs. Any club that averages 10 years or less a spoon is nothing short appalling.

The above teams should be forced to merge together and relocate :o
These clubs just degrades the whole comp. :thumbsd:

Thanks HotDog, now tell me what did you do with your weekends before you jumped on the West Coast bandwagon 11 months ago?
