If Australia was able to host The World Cup, which is very unlikely.
Would you want it to come to Australia if it had to interupt the season for 2 months?

For me i would love it to be in Australia at any cost i wouldnt really care if we had to cut out half the season to fit it in.

The AFL comes and goes every year, but the World Cup doesnt.

Anyone that wouldn't want the world cup here is a sour grinch that isn't considering the interests, and more importantly, greater good of our nation.

Of course!

Having the World Cup in Australia would be amazing. Once in a lifetime sort of thing.

How can interrupting ONE season of footy compare to that?

I don't necesarily mind the world cup but I just find soccer unbearably boring. I tried to get into the 06 world cup but found myself turning the tv off after about 10 minutes. I'd rather we didn't have it, unless of course it creates some sort of massive economic boom.

It will create a massive economic boom. Dont worry about that. And lets be honest anyone that says no is no better then the paranoid RL fans who think we're coming to invade their game.

I would love to have the world cup here, but why should the footy stop.

Push the AFL season earlier by 1 month, taking out 2-3 games to represent less pre-season. Have the world cup from September - November.

Problem solved.

Uh, no. Problem created.

Honesty, the ignorance of some is pretty amusing. Changing the date of the World Cup will effect hundreds of soccer leagues around the globe, but all some people factor into their thoughts is the AFL. ONE league.

Honestly......the fact people even contemplate the World Cup being shifted to cater for the AFL season is just laughable.

It would be epic.

I'm no expert with regards to the politics of the situation, but if there are suggestions for it to stop, surely there'd be a worthwhile reason that I just haven't read about yet. One positive out of footy continuing whilst the world cup is on, is that people coming here would wanna spend cash, so they could very well be interested in checking out our national sport.

If there are stadium conflicts though, something could be worked out. I love AFL as much as the next big fan on this forum, but when you've got the world expectations and Australian reputation on the world stage at large, then the world cup is what needs to be catered for ahead of the AFL season.

You can't please everyone, but it's what any responsible organiser would do.

Absolutely yes, and without the slightest doubt or hesitation whatsoever :D

If you vote no you're an absolute tool of the highest order.

Shame I can't change my vote then. I was thinking it might have a similar effect to the Olympics.

Wow can't believe im reading so many pro-soccer posts in the one thread. I'm shocked, especially considering this is an AFL forum...
Soccer can stay in Europe & South America thx

Maybe they could turn that season into a State of Origin round robin or something instead. Otherwise it would be hard to fit a season into 16 or so weeks with 18+ teams.

I wouldnt mind it it be like a pre season type thing during the middle of the year.Which would be handy for teams who start the season strong like Saints this year to refresh and be able to have the energy to maintain that energy for the rest of the season.

Yeah, that's one possible option I'd think...

I think it would be unpatriotic to sacrifice the chance of having such an awesome event purely cause the AFL wants to make more $$$. Which is what it would come down to.

Why don't they play some games at Non-Affected Grounds like some of the Suburban Grounds

Overall, the World Cup DEFINITELY should be introduced to Australia no matter what the circumstance. Not only would it benefit the economy but it'll be a once in a life-time event and we'd be lucky to get one in at least 100 years.
