Hopefully the guys have a better season than last year, there is more experience throughout the squad which will help just need them to stay on the park

Greetings from a fellow Westie (despite going for the other mob). Anyone at the ground tonight have a report on the reserves game?

From the AFL website for the game yesterday v Sydney uni
Hopefully the club has a write up on the website during the week

Young gun Jacob Hopper has given the strongest indication he is ready to return at AFL level by starring in the Giants' NEAFL practice match against Sydney University at Tom Wills Oval on Saturday.

Hopper had been battling a groin problem but showed he had regained full fitness by being the Giant' best player in a narrow loss.

Other GWS standouts included the experienced Tim Mohr, prized draftee Aiden Bonar, ruckman Dawson Simpson and youngster Isaac Cumming.

A determined GWS GIANTS have begun 2018 with a win as they held on for a thrilling four-point victory against their cross-town rivals Sydney in a tight contest at the SCG. The enthralling match, which had 12 lead changes, ended 9.15 (69) to 11.7 (73) in favour of the GIANTS. Despite dominating all major facets of the game, the Swans’ inaccuracy in front of goal and at times ill-discipline ended costing them severely. The Swans had plus 39 disposals, plus six inside 50s and plus 22 tackles, but were unable to translate all that dominance where it mattered; the scoreboard.

All four quarters were an arm-wrestle, with the GIANTS only going into quarter-time four points ahead, yet a brain fade late in the second quarter by Swans defender Aliir Aliir gifted the GIANTS a 14-point lead at the main break. The defender gave away a free kick after Matthew Flynn had scored and Dylan Buckley then slotted the second straight after. The Swans where then playing catch-up from then on. The GIANTS, who were composed all afternoon, managed to hit the front with seven minutes to go courtesy of a Kieren Briggs goal, and held on for a famous victory.

The GIANTS took the most of their opportunities, with Dylan Buckley and Zach Sproule contributing seven goals between them out of their teams 11. Veteran Ryan Griffen was among the best for the GIANTS, with a crucial 30 disposals and five tackles. GIANTS midfielder Aiden Bonar complemented Griffen nicely with 28 touches, eight tackles and also a behind. The GIANTS will look to continue their winning ways in Round 2 against the Gold Coast Suns, who are coming off a 20-point win over Aspley.

Sydney Swans v GWS GIANTS at SCG
GWS GIANTS 2.1 7.4 9.5 11.7 (73)

SYDNEY SWANS 1.4 4.8 7.12 9.15 (69)
GOALS –GIANTS:
D Buckley 4 Z Sproule 3 K Briggs J Peatling M Flynn.
BEST – GIANTS: R Griffen A Bonar I Cumming D Simpson D Buckley.

So, does anyone from the NEAFL team put the pressure on for a first grade spot? Bonar for a forward spot, maybe in place of HH? Cumming as a running defender? What about even Dylan Buckley as a pressuring small forward? Thoughts?
