The Rock taking his role on Ballers a little bit too literally? šŸ˜‚

He's had a few seasons to perfect his craft. This is the ultimate life imitating art!

They've got the brand, do they have the connections and the cash for TV deals and to fund the league?

Maybe they should chat with the Anderson brothers šŸ˜‚

its a inside job for his old mate Vince.

Yep, threre's no way Vince didn't stake him.

It's a real life version of The Corporation. šŸ˜‚

Pretty light on information, or even speculation. But something may or may not happen between the XFL and CFL.

Reminds me of when Homer is reading the paper trying to work out who Gabbo is.

I went to one XFL game just before the pandemic set in. I actually liked it a lot. I think it could work well as a testing ground for potential NFL rule changes. Its initial form in 2001 or so was absolute trash, but I liked the 2020 version. Hopefully they can roll it out again in 2022. I'm intrigued by what could come with the CFL partnership.

XFL hires Russ Brandon as league president

by Josh Alper on November 8, 2021, 10:00 AM EST

The XFL is aiming for a 2023 return and they have a new league president overseeing the push to relaunch the league.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports that former Bills CEO Russ Brandon has been installed in that job. Brandon spent 20 years with the Bills and resigned from that job in 2018 amid allegations of workplace misconduct. He has since worked as an adviser to RedBird Capital Partners, which teamed with Dwayne ā€œThe Rockā€ Johnson and Dany Garcia to buy the league out of bankruptcy after their previous reboot was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The XFL has also hired former Giants executive Marc Ross as executive vice president of football operations. He will be responsible for all on-field operations and he will be assisted by former Bills General Manager Doug Whaley, who worked for the XFL in a similar capacity before it shut down last year.

Several other former employees are also returning to the fold as the league works to set the stage for its third life.

NFL, XFL to work together on health and safety initiatives, other issues `

Posted by Josh Alper on February 21, 2022, 10:53 AM EST

The XFL plans to relaunch in 2023 and they will be working with the NFL on some fronts once they return to action.

A joint statement from both leagues on Monday brings word that they will collaborate on ā€œselect innovation programsā€ with a focus on player health and safety. The two leagues say they will be working on ā€œforward thinking physical and mental fitness programsā€ along with studying playing surfaces and equipment used in the game. They will also share game trends and data.

The statement also mentions officiating and international development as other areas where the two leagues could work together in the future.

ā€œWe are extremely pleased to collaborate with the NFL in these important areas,ā€ XFL co-owner and chairwoman Dany Garcia said. ā€œWe are bringing forward an XFL that is progressive and forward-thinking when it comes to innovation, leveraging the newest technology to enhance gameday experience. We have an open field for innovative rules to enhance in-game access. Sharing insights and practices between the XFL and NFL will do a tremendous amount of good for the game of football and support the player ecosystem overall.ā€

The XFL plans to start its season in February 2023 with Dwayne ā€œThe Rockā€ Johnson, who made an appearance at Super Bowl LVI, joining Garcia among the owners of the league. A new version of the USFL is set to launch this spring.

USFL’s 2022 contracts will make it harder for XFL to get players in 2023

Posted by Mike Florio on February 24, 2022, 8:39 PM EST

The XFL will return in 2023. The USFL knows that, and is planning shrewdly for the competition.

Via Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, the USFL’s player contracts cover one year, with a one-year option. Thus, the USFL can choose to squat on any, some, or all of the players for 2023, keeping them away from the XFL (owned by The Rock) for its third inaugural season.

While the USFL may win the short-term fight for players, the XFL’s collaboration with the NFL may help that league win the broader struggle for relevance.

It’s possibly not a zero-sum game, however. With legalized gambling continuing to spread, people need things to bet on. (Or ā€œon which to bet,ā€ for the grammatically fastidious.) Maybe there’s room for two alternative spring leagues.

Still, as we’ve said before — and as mentioned in Playmakers (I think . . . regardless, buy it now, people) — why have an alternative league in the spring when Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the fall are, to borrow a phrase from Bruce Arians, wide-ass open?

Hovering over all of this is the NFL. It hasn’t re-launched a developmental league post-NFL Europa because the model hasn’t been profitable. Gambling could make it extremely profitable. And if anyone is going to be profiting from pro football at any time of the year, it’s going to be the NFL.

Um yeah, the Togethxr company will lose that one easy. Nothing alike. As some suggest, Rappinoe an intolerable attention seeker, and/or, as Florio suggested, using it to drum up hits and interest with their own company.

The USFL isn't flash. Caught a few games on Foxtel and they haven't been crash hot. Thought the standard in the last xfl before Covid hit was building nicely. Sell outs in St Louis.

The USFL playing all the games in Alabama isnt helping. It would be hard to say im following my states team if they never play there.
XFL also has that deal with the NFL. could see it evolve to being somewhere fringe/practice squad players are playing in the XFL. like each XFL team gets rights to one NFL Division or something. Try and make it something like the NFL Europe was/wanted to be.
