PICK 1 – GWS: LACHIE WHITFIELD,
Height: 184cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 18/7/1994
Whitfield is locked and loaded as the number selection in the 2012 draft. He will help add outside and inside class to the likes of Ward, Tyson, Shiel, Scully, Palmer, Greene, and Coniglio.

Classy medium midfielder with rare awareness and decision-making ability complemented by skills either side with hands and feet. Is naturally gifted with speed and endurance and is strong overhead. All-Australian at U18 level in 2011 and winner of AFL Life Members Scholarship. Backed it up this year winning the Larke Medal and All-Australian honours averaging 23.2 disposals. Another graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Nathan Buckley Kicking Test – Ranked equal 14th (26/30), Didn’t test at the National Combine in fitness testing due to illness, however has previously tested at the TAC Cup Testing in March 2012 where he recorded a Beep Test of 16.2.

“His rare game sense, elite disposal and endurance are all factors which highlight his great potential.”

PICK 2 – GWS: JIMMY TOUMPAS,
Height: 182cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 2/1/1994
I selected Jimmy hear due to the fact he is best available player hear at pick 2. Toumpas can play half back, midfield, half forward and has good leadership qualities. Toumpas had a great under 18 championships, but he was also carrying a hip injury. No doubt in my mind if it wasn't for that hip injury he was carrying then he could of gave Whitfield a run for his money for the number 1 selection.

Energetic medium midfielder with outstanding work ethic and big aerobic capacity. Terrific ball winner and weights his kicks extremely well. Impressive for SA in 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and in the senior SANFL Grand Final, when he was among the best for 2011 Premiers, Woodville West Torrens. Won All Australian honours this year averaging 22.2 disposals. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to recent hip surgery, however previously tested with the AIS-AFL Academy. Beep Test – 14.5

X-factor: “Has super ability to break the lines with his pace and agility, is also able to then finish with neat foot skills.”

PICK 3 – GWS: OLIVER WINES,
Height: 188cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 7/10/1994
I know Melbourne fans would be turning purple hear, but again I went with best available player hear. GWS has good core of inside midfielders, but there is a chance they will lose couple of those talented midfielders in the future to others teams, like what happened to Gold Coast this year with Josh Caddy, Josy Toy, etc. The level of consistency Wines demonstrated this year was outstanding. 53% of his possessions were contested and there is no questions in mind that Sheedy loves big strong contested beast midfielders. This kid is ready to go round 1 next year.
Strong medium midfielder with a distinct hard edge that wins him contested ball, including at the stoppages. Has elite endurance and can push forward and hit the scoreboard. Ferocious tackler who is a good overhead mark and prolific ball winner. Averaged 24.2 disposals for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships this year winning All-Australian honours. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Beep Test – 14.2

X-factor: “His competitive nature and footy smarts make him a consistent high level ball winner and performer for his team.”

PICK 4 – MELBOURNE: BRODIE GRUNDY,
Height: 202cm, Weight: 100kg, DOB: 15/4/1994
With Wines gone, Grundy is the best player available hear. The only established ruckman on Melborunes list is Mark Jamar, now that Stefan Martin has joined the Brisbane Lions. The likes of Fitzpatrick, Spencer, and the injury prone Gawn are long term prospects and are not established AFL ruckman. Jamar is 30 years old and will not be there when Melbourne start challenging for a flag, hence why they need the best available ruckmen to feed the ball to the likes of Viney, Jones, Trengove, Grimes, Blease, Davey and Sylvia.
Ruckman who imposes himself on games with his physical presence. Excels in directing the ball at stoppages and can be a dangerous marking target up forward. Won All Australian Under 18 honours in 2011 and has played senior football with Sturt. Backed it up this year becoming a dual All Australian, averaging 15 disposals and 24.2 hit outs in 2012. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Matthew Lloyd Clean Hands Test – Ranked equal 5th (27/30)

X-factor: “His ability in the art of ruck work is exceptional for a young player. This allows him to influence the contest so often in games.”

PICK 5 – WESTERN BULLDOGS: JONATHAN O’ROURKE,
Height: 184cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 21/4/1994
Jonathan O'Rourke would be the perfect fit for the Western Bulldogs. He will add outside class that the Bulldogs really need and should complement the likes of Libertatore, Wallis, Smith, and Stevens.

Medium midfielder who is a prolific ball winner and smart user of the ball. Runs all day and makes good decisions with the football in heavy traffic. Has good game sense and an excellent mix of speed and endurance. Classy type who averaged 18.5 disposals at 77% efficiency for Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and was rewarded with All Australian honours. AIS-AFL
Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Beep Test – 14.3, 20m Sprint – 2.97 secs

X-factor: “His use of the ball by both hand and foot is elite. Has a real touch of class.”

PICK 6 – WESTERN BULLDOGS: TROY MENZEL,
Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 22/9/1994
I went with Troy Menzel hear on the bias of pure talent. I know everyone is saying he has bad knees, but look at Joel Selwood, Dyson Heppell and Chris Judd back when they were drafted and had injury concerns. Plus he had an injury interrupted (carrying a hip injury) under 18 championship season. Menzel would add X-factor and goal scoring power that the Bulldogs need and can also rotate through the midfield. With Daniel Giansiracusa nearing to the back end of his career and the delisting of Sherman and Hooper, Menzel would also suit the needs of the Bulldogs is well.
Left-footed medium forward with exceptional goal sense both on the run and with set shots. Kicked nine goals vs Tasmania and six goals vs NT in sensational fashion in first two games of the 2012 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships before a groin injury interrupted his season. He starred for the Australian U18 team on the European tour earlier this year. Brother of Geelong Cats’ Daniel and
member of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to recent knee injury however have previously tested with the AIS-AFL Academy. 20m Sprint - 3.07 secs, Agility - 8.36 secs

X-factor: “His vision and awareness are elite, which helps him win the ball and make quick accurate decisions with his disposal.”

PICK 7 – PORT ADELAIDE: SAM MAYES,
Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 20/5/1994
Port Adelaide declared they would draft the best available SA boy. I have no doubt that will be Sam Mayes. The player Sam Mayes that reminds me of is Andrew Walker. Mayes has good marking, kicking, and athlete qualties. He has all the bells and whistle to be an outstanding player.
Medium forward who has good speed and elite agility and is a good set shot for goal. Reads the game well as a lead-up forward and starred for SA at the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships level in 2011, winning All Australian honours. Played midfield roles also in U18s this year to continue his development which already sees him playing senior football for North Adelaide. Graduate of
the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to minor knee injury. However has previously tested with AIS-AFL Academy Running Vertical Jump Right - 80cm, 20m Sprint - 2.95 secs, Agility - 7.92 secs, Beep Test - 14.4

X-factor: “A one touch player on the lead and at ground level with an innate ability around
goals.”

PICK 8 – BRISBANE: JACKSON MACRAE,
Height: 189cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 3/8/1994
I have Macrae going to the Lions because simply he is the best available player at this selection. I know Kristan Kaksch has been linked to the Lions, but at pick 8, I'm sure everyone would select a gun midfielder over an above average KPP. I know Kristan kicked 6 goals against Tasmania, but so did Macrae and at this point of time Macrae showed more potential to be A grade AFL player. The Lions need run and carry, scoring power and x-factor. That is what Macrae will provide and bring to the team.
Versatile medium midfielder who can also go back or forward. Big improver this year and is a long left foot kick. Shows great courage in the air and at ground level in his attack on the ball. Kicked six goals vs TAS in an outstanding performance and averaged 19.4 disposals at 78.4% efficiency in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships this year. Averaged 24 disposals in eleven TAC Cup games this year, having an outstanding season overall.

NAB AFL Combine Results: 20m Sprint - 2.95 secs (Top 24%) Agility - 8.40 secs (Top 20%)

X-factor: “Uncanny ability to win the ball in the air as well as at ground level. Works well in tight.”

PICK 9 – RICHMOND: JAKE STRINGER,
Height: 191cm, Weight: 94kg, DOB: 25/4/1994
If it wasn't for Stringers broken leg, then he would be going at number 1. High risk, high reward pick hear. Richmond could potentially end up with another version of Dustin Martin. End of the day he is worth the risk based on talent wise.
Tall forward/defender that excels one-on-one with his marking and body positioning. His kicking is both penetrating and precise, whether forward or back, and he has good speed off the mark. Thrives on the contest and tackles strongly. Overcome serious leg injury last season to play some excellent football for Bendigo Pioneers this year and represent Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under 18
Championships. AIS AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Ranked equal 3rd – Matthew Lloyd Clean Hands Test (28/30) & Ranked equal 1st in Brad Johnson Goal Kicking Test (30/30).

X-factor: “His hard edge in winning the contested ball either in the air or at ground level separates him from many others his size.”

PICK 10 – ESSENDON: JOE DANIHER (FATHER-SON),
Height: 201cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 4/3/1994
Left-footed tall forward/ruckman that is exceptional overhead and an accurate set shot for goal. Has rare mobility for a player of his size and can win the ball at ground level up the field. Will become choice number 10 as father/son to Essendon, where father Anthony played. Excelled in final game of NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, taking 11 marks and kicking four goals. Won All
Australian honours. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test, however has previously recorded with the AIS-AFL Academy. 20m Sprint – 3.02 secs

X-factor: “His ability to reach and mark the ball at its highest point makes him such a difficult player to match up on.”

PICK 11 – CARLTON: KRISTIAN JAKSCH,
Height: 194cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 7/10/1994
Second best KPP in this year’s draft. Would help Carlton’s needs up forward and down back.
Tall forward/defender that is extremely strong overhead, averaging 5.6 marks and 13 disposals for Vic Metro in NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. Kicked six goals vs TAS in an outstanding performance and uses the ball well by foot when in defence. Makes good decisions with the ball, shows excellent vision and is a strong spoiler.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Running Vertical Jump (Left) - 84cm (Top 16%), 20m Sprint - 3.04 secs

X-factor: “Showed this year the ability to perform at a high level at both ends of the ground, which is rare for a 194cm player.”

PICK 12 – GWS: LACHIE PLOWMAN,
Height: 192cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 11/9/1994
I have Plowman sliding because he tested in the bottom 13% for all the sprint categories and in the bottom 22% for agility. In the endurance testing he was acceptable. I could not get my head around why GWS would select Plowman at pick 3. He is the best KPD in this draft, yet he was injured most of the year and has not shown anything to suggest he is worth pick 3.
Tall defender with terrific ability to win the contested ball in the air and at ground level. Poised with the ball in his hands and makes smart decisions. Was in great form early in the year with the Australian U18 team and Calder before injury ruled him out of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. Made a strong return in the latter stages of the season with Cannons and was among their best against Oakleigh with 17 disposals and six marks. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Running Vertical Jump Left – 85cm (Top 15%), 3km – 10mins 47secs

X-factor: “His composure as a tall defender is superb. Never appears flustered and makes excellent decisions with and without the ball.”

PICK 13 – GOLD COAST: JOSH SIMPSON,
Height: 184cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 9/2/1994
Gold Coast rate Josh Simpson very high and are keen on players who provide run and carry, as well as x-factor.
Medium midfielder/forward who is exciting with his natural speed and agility. Dangerous player around goal and very capable overhead for a player of his size. Represented SA in 2011 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships before returning to his native WA in 2012 where he played four matches and averaged 14 disposals and 3 tackles per game. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: 20m Sprint – 2.97 secs (Top 31%), Agility – 8.39 secs (Top 16%), Repeat Sprint – 25.42 secs (Top 27%)
X-factor: “His kicking and speed out of the contest give him an edge.”

PICK 14 – GWS: BEN KENNEDY,
Height: 174cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 3/3/1994
If Ben was 2-4 inches taller, he would be top 3 selections. I have Ben going at pick 14 because he is a Dual All-Australian.
Left-footed small forward/midfielder with explosive pace and rare agility. Prolific ball winner who excels at stoppages and is extremely dangerous around goals with set shots or snaps. In 2011 won All-Australian Under 18 honours as a bottom-aged player and debuted at senior level. Backed it up this year with All-Australian honours following the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging
26.2 disposals. AIS-AFL Academy graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to groin injury. However has previously tested with the AIS-AFL Academy. 20m Sprint - 3.00 secs, Agility - 7.89 secs

X-factor: “Instinctive player around the stoppages and goals with rare agility to compliment.”

PICK 15 – NORTH MELBOURNE: TAYLOR GARNER,
Height: 187cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 8/1/1994
Garner was carrying a shoulder during the season, but has shown in game 3 his best performance of any player during the entire carnival. (Game 3 Stats: 12 kicks, 8 handballs, 20 disposals (14 contested), 75% efficiency, 8 marks (3 contested), 6 hit outs (yeah-buddy), 6 tackles and 3 goals)
Medium forward who was a real surprise packet in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships with his mobility and overhead marking features. Showed good footy nous as a forward, averaging 3.5 tackles and 14.8 disposals. 2012 All Australian.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to recent left shoulder surgery.

X-factor: “His overhead marking is both courageous and spectacular, with the ability to leap from any angle a real feature.”

PICK 16 – GEELONG: NICK VLASTUIN,
Height: 187cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 19/4/1994
Vlastuin is a natural footballer he has all the qualities to become a AFL captain one day. He leads on the field by example, and Geelong will love him because he gives his all at every contest.
Medium midfielder/defender who attacks the ball aggressively and rarely fumbles. Strong and courageous in the air, he also excels at the stoppages. Loves the physical pressure of the game, winning contested ball and tackles strongly. Captained Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and won All Australian honours for his work as a medium defender, averaging 16.6
disposals and 4.6 marks. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Agility – 8.38 secs (Top 14%), Standing Vertical Jump 70cm (Top 32%)

X-factor: “His ferocious attack on the ball and one touch hands make him an excellent contested ball winner on the inside.”

PICK 17 – FREMANTLE: DAYLE GARLETT,
Height: 180cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 9/1/1994
Fremantle would love a KPP for replacing McPharlin and Pavlich for the future, but with Garlett being a top 10 talent, I don't think they would hastate one second to draft him.
Left footed medium forward/midfielder who can find space to win the ball and shows great evasiveness through traffic. Very smart goal kicker and stoppage player as well. Excelled for WA in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging 19.2 possessions, 3.4 clearances and winning All-Australian honours.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Running Vertical Jump Right – 79cm (Top 26%), Agility – 8.42 secs (Top 26%)

X-factor: “His pin point left foot is his most damaging weapon, particularly around goals where he has an innate ability to kick the near impossible.”

PICK 18 – COLLINGWOOD: TOM CLUREY,
Height: 192cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 23/3/1994
With Chris Tarrant retiring this year, Collingwood will get the second best defender in this year’s draft.
A strong bodied tall defender that reads the play very well. Can shut down opposition key forwards whilst also providing good rebound from defence. Displays excellent leadership qualities, very good endurance and strong hands in the marking contest. Played all five games for Vic Country at the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging 11.8 disposals and 3.8 rebound 50’s.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Beep Test – 15.1, 3km – 10min 01secs (Top 2%)

X-factor: “His ability to run all day was confirmed when he recorded a 15.1 beep test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine in extremely hot conditions. This separates him from other tall defenders.”

PICK 19 – COLLINGWOOD: TIM MEMBREY,
Height: 189cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 26/5/1994
Collingwood let Chris Dawes go because they can't fit three tall’s in their best 22, hence why I selected Membrey hear. Membray is a Jack Darling type of player who can play up the ground and kick bags of goals, which also allows Cloke and Lynch to stay inside forward 50.
Powerful medium forward with extremely strong hands on the lead and a long, accurate kick for goal. Has the ability to keep his feet and rarely fumbles, showing clean hands below the knees as well as overhead. Showed his best form at Etihad Stadium in Round 5 against SA, kicking four goals after injury hampered him in the earlier rounds. Kicked eight goals in the TAC Cup preliminary final in a best on ground performance. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: 20m Sprint - 3.00 secs, Beep Test - 13.1

X-factor: “His pin point accurate kicking both at goal, even outside 50m and his field kicking is a rare ability. Kicked 54 goals, 25 behinds this year as proof of his special talent.”

PICK 20 – ADELAIDE: TIM O’BRIEN,
Height: 193cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 28/3/1994
Tall quick moving forward whose strength is his overhead marking. Averaged five marks and 2.2 goals per game in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and is a reliable set shot for goal. His six goals against Tasmania in Round 1 was the highlight.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Agility Test – 8.30secs (Top 2%), 20m Sprint – 2.94 secs

X-factor: “Speed off the mark, natural leap and agility are rare for a player of his size. Has lots of upside.”

PICK 21 – COLLINGWOOD: NATHAN HROVAT,
Height: 175cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 23/2/1994
Dynamic small midfielder who is a prolific ball winner and great user of the footy. Shows pace and great agility, and runs hard all day, reading the play exceptionally well. Averaged 25.2 disposals (10 contested) and 4.4 clearances in winning Vic Metro’s MVP and All Australian honours this year.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Agility – 8.41 secs (Top 22%), Beep Test – 13.2

X-factor: “A star at the stoppages. Has the skill set to exit accurately by hand or foot on either side which is a rare quality.”

PICK 22 – WESTERN BULLDOGS: SAM COLQUHOUN,
Height: 180cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 20/12/1994
Sam will be the perfect replacement for Robert Murphy. With consistent performances for South Australia right throughout the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships earned the rebounding defender his state's MVP and earned All-Australian under-18 honours. Colquhoun was damaging off half-back, averaging 28.4 disposals and six marks for the carnival.
He didn’t test at the Combine, because he was playing in the Grand Final for Central Districts. He really stood up in the finals series for Central Districts reserves on the wing where he averaged 26 possessions

PICK 23 – SYDNEY: JESSE LONERGAN,
Height: 182cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 14/11/1994
Sydney has to draft players that are going to replace the old senior guys. Lonergon would be the perfect replacement for Jude Bolton.
The Tasmanian product is a tough medium midfielder who attacks the ball aggressively and is clean with his ball handling and distribution. Has explosive power and is very competitive, always showing great intensity around the contest and strong second efforts. Overcame injury to play the final three matches in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging 16.3 disposals and laying 5.3 tackles per game. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Standing Vertical Jump – 83cm (Top 1%)

X-factor: “A star at the stoppages using his speed, power and clean hands to great effect.”

PICK 24 – BRISBANE: AIDAN CORR,
Height: 195cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 17/5/1994
Brisbane needs to start developing young key position players. Drafting Aidan Corr allow guys like Merrett to play forward, gives flexibility and provides depth to the key position stocks.
Tall defender who is extremely competitive by nature and spoils aggressively. Has good speed and agility for a tall and uses the ball well by foot to advantage. Takes a strong mark and can go forward to good effect. Injured just prior to Round 4 of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and missed the final two matches. AIS-AFL Academy graduate.

NAB AFL Combine Results: 20m Sprint Test – 2.89 (Top 6%) & Ranked equal 7th in Nathan Buckley Kicking Test (27/30)

X-factor: “His closing speed together with his team orientation gives him the tools to close down on the oppositions most athletic tall forward.”

PICK 25 – ST KILDA: TANNER SMITH,

St Kilda stated they are going to draft KPD and Smith is the best available at this pick.
Tall defender who has good closing speed and reads the game extremely well coming into the opposition forward line. Makes good decisions on when to mark or spoil and provides good run from defence. Has shown ability to go forward and have an impact. Stood tall for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships this year matching up well on the opposition's best forward.
Smith stepped into North Ballarat's centre half-back position last year as a bottom-age player and established himself as a promising player. As a 17-year-old he took on some of the best forwards in the TAC Cup, including Jonathon Patton, the first player picked at last year's NAB AFL Draft. In 2012, Smith played most of the year in defence before the Rebels gave him some exposure as a key forward late in the season. He showed signs it could be a switch he makes more often in the future, although he will be drafted for his defensive and disciplined efforts. The 18-year-old is getting stronger, can run all day and is very good at shutting down an opponent and limiting their influence.

PICK 26 – ST KILDA: BEN JACOBS,
Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 09/01/1992
Jacobs was Port Adelaide's first selection and the 16th overall selection. He is known for his excellent marking with great core strength, having the ability to run all day and execute by hand. Jacobs won All-Australian honours in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships and averaged 29 disposals at 69 percent efficiency, including a 47 possession game against South Australia.

Thurlow’s a third tall in defence type that can also push through the midfield. He played loose during the Champs and really stood out with his contested marking and ability to read the play.
At the Champs, in game 1 he collected 25 possessions with 8 tackles. In game 2 he amassed an amazing 45 possessions at 76% efficiency, with also 11 marks. Game 3; 20 possessions and 8 marks at 85% efficiency. Game 4; 19 possessions at 79% efficiency and 14 possessions at 93% efficiency.
Medium defender who reads the play exceptionally well cutting off opposition forward moves and providing a running option on the way out. Averaged 24.6 disposals and 6.6 marks winning All Australian honours in the 2012 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships.

National Combine Results: 3km – 10mins 24secs (Top 18%)

X-factor: “Has real physical presence in winning the ball and a brilliant burst of speed from defence which breaks the lines.”

PICK 30 – PORT ADELAIDE: TIM BROOMHEAD,
Height: 183cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 22/3/1994
Port will be using their first of a double pick to select home town product Tim Broomhead. Broomhead spent the 2nd half of the year playing in the Port Adelaide Magpies seniors side which is sure to help him make the transition to the AFL. At the draft combine he finished 6th overall in the repeat sprints and equal 2nd overall in the goal kicking test. He has a great work rate which allows him to get to contest after contest. Although he played the majority of the season in the middle I see him playing off the back flank setting up the play with his quick pace. The only thing that slightly lets him down at the moment is his kicking but should be able to develop that as his career goes on.
Medium midfielder with excellent speed, vision and composure with the ball. Averaged 15.2 disposals at 77% efficiency during the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships playing an important role for SA in their midfield rotations. Also stepped up to senior level at the Port Magpies, playing 10 matches.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Repeat Sprint Test – 24.98 (Top 7%) & Ranked equal 4th in Brad Johnson Goal Kicking Test (25/30)

Left footed tall forward who presents well on the lead and is strong overhead. Averaged 13 disposals for Vic Country this year with his best game against their arch rival, Vic Metro. Has elite endurance and work rate and is capable of playing as a wingman as well. Has clean hands, good vision and excellent awareness.

National Combine Results: Agility Test – 8.35secs (Top 8%) & Ranked equal 4th in Brad Johnson Goal Kicking Test (25/30)

X-factor: “His athletic ability particularly his endurance and agility make him a difficult match-up for his size up forward.”

PICK 32 – RICHMOND: NICK GRAHAM,
Height: 183cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 12/6/1994
Medium midfielder who is a terrific competitor with great lateral movement and evasive ability. Strong overhead and very good by foot, he has been a prolific ball winner for Gippsland Power this year, averaging 25 disposals .Can also play role up forward presenting as a target and applying good defensive pressure. Capped off a great year by winning the Morrish Medal as the TAC Cup’s best and fairest player.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Didn’t test due to pending minor right knee surgery.

X-factor: “Excels at getting through the congestion, with his lateral movement and evasive skills a real feature of his play.”

PICK 33 – BRISBANE: MASON SHAW,
Height: 198cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: 15/1/1994
The Lions failed to get Tippett and need to start developing young key forwards to prepare for post Jonathan Brown era. Besides Jonathan Brown, Brisbane does not have an established key forward. Daniel Merrett and Brent Staker playing forward don't count. Shaw a key forward that you can build a team around.
Shaw is a powerful tall forward who excels in pressure situations - he followed up last year's seven-goal Grand Final haul for South Fremantle colts with another five goals in this year's premiership decider. He kicked 66 goals for the Bulldogs last year, but he suffered facial fractures early this season in an off-the-ball incident involving West Coast's Mitch Brown, which required surgery that put him out for more than three months. He's an accurate and long kick for goal from set shots, can also pinch-hit in the ruck, has a good tank and shows good leadership potential.
Tall forward who is very strong overhead and has smarts around goals. Kicked seven goals in the WAFL colts Grand Final in 2011. A reliable kick for goal from set shots as well as clever with his snap shots. Has excellent endurance for a tall with a beep score of 14-plus showing his potential to play across half-forward. Kicked four goals for WA against Vic Country this year. AIS-AFL Academy graduate.

PICK 34 – RICHMOND: MATTHEW HAYNES,
Height: 190cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 19/3/1994
"Dashing tall midfielder whose breakaway pace is his X-factor. He averaged 14.2 disposals at 70.2% efficiency at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships this year. Selected as part of the 14th AIS-AFL Academy intake. From Carey Baptist."

PICK 35 – ESSENDON: RORY ATKINS,
Height: 186cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 12/7/1994
Atkins is an outside midfielder who’s a very good by hand and foot. He played 13 games for Calder Cannons this season and averaged 20 disposals and 6 marks at 75% disposal efficiency. He was in the top 37% in the 3km time trial and ran a 12.9 shuttle run in the hot conditions.

PICK 36 – CARLTON: SAM LOWRIE,
Height: 187cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 22/7/1994
Standing at 187cm, Lowrie is a nicely sized midfielder from South Fremantle, who has now enjoyed two very good seasons at WAFL Colts level. Sam broke both bones in his leg as a 16 year old. He missed the rest of the season but made his return in round two this year. Before he broke his leg, he was averaging 21 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals a game.
This season he is averaging 24 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles and a goal a game (WAFL).
He only averaged 60% game time at the Champs, and from that he managed to get 10 kicks, 16 disposals, 72% disposal efficiency, 6 marks, 4 tackles and 3 clearances a game. Statistically his two best games were in games one and three, where he got 21 disposals in each of those, but I thought game five was his best. It was televised, if you want to go back and look at it, and even though he only spent 58% of the game on the ground, in that short time he gathered 8 kicks, 4 handballs, 6 of those possessions contested, 83% disposal efficiency, and also a brilliant 6 clearances.
Sam is more of an outside midfielder because he’s very good at linking up, spreading from the contest and possesses a great running game, he does have the ability to go inside, win clearances and use his big frame to win the contested ball.
Standing at 187cm, it gives him some serious versatility to play a variety of positions. He is a really good overhead.

PICK 37 – FREMANTLE: KAMDYN MCINTOSH,
Height: 192cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 3/4/1994
The last four games he made his debut in the WAFL seniors, not looking out of place at all. He can play a variety of positions and on a variety of players, but what I like is his ball use. He has a very good rebounding game, like Tom Clurey, and also an enormous tank.
Tested top 5% for the 3km time trial, top 3% for VO2 max, and ran a 14.8 shuttle run.

PICK 38 – NORTH MELBOURNE: ANDREW BOSTON,
Height: 180cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 23/3/1994
Andrew played 9 games for Broadbeach, averaging 15 kicks, 3 handballs, 18 disposals, 6 marks, 4 inside 50’s, 2 tackles, 1 clearance and kicked 15 goals and 5 behinds. His ball use stands out. He’s very balanced and can kick off both feet. He’s mostly an outside midfielder with the ability to push forward and kick goals. He can win a lot of the ball, and showed that during the Champs on occasions.

PICK 39 – COLLINGWOOD: LIAM MCBEAN,
Height: 202cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 25/8/1994
Liam McBean is a 202cm ruckman/forward. He is smart footballer, strong mark and kicks goals. Darren Jolly will retire at the end of 2013 and Lynch will be 30 next year, hence why I selected McBean hear as a long term prospect and he would be the perfect ruck partner for Jarred Witts.
Lightly framed ruckman/key defender who can win the ball in the air and at ground level. Very agile player who is gifted athletically and makes good decisions with the football. Is an accurate shot for goal when he goes forward. Played mainly as a key defender in 2012 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships where he’s still developing his game. Dangerous as a tall forward. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy.

NAB AFL Combine Results: Nathan Buckley Kicking Test – Ranked equal 14th (26/30)

X-factor: “His agility for a 203cm (6’8”) is rare, which allows him to win ground balls to compliment his overhead marking.”

PICK 40 – FREMANTLE: SPENCER WHITE,
Height: 196cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 22/9/1994
White is a very athletic tall forward coming off a 36 goal season in the TAC Cup. He was fairly consistent through the year, kicking goals in all but three games and often using his athleticism to pinch hit in the ruck.
In terms of his athleticism White was in the top 2% at the Draft Combine for the standing vertical jump, he was the best at the running jump (coming within 2cm of Nic Naitanui’s record), top 10% in the 5m sprint and 10m sprint and top 7% in the 20m sprint. His straight line pace is incredible and when you combine that with his jump, it makes him a very scary prospect as a developing full forward. He ran a 12.7 in the shuttle run, and that was in 30 degree heat so he didn’t too badly there. He was in the bottom 12% in the 3km time trial and the bottom 41% for VO2 max recordings. He averaged 1.5 tackles a game.
Where he’s most dangerous is deep forward, so the ball can be sat on top of his head and he can run and jump at it. His contested marking is a feature, where he averages 1.7 a game but his conversion is even more impressive. He kicked 36 goals and 12 behinds for the season, putting him in the elite category for goal conversion. He also kicked the ball at 71% efficiency through the season, which is outstanding for a key forward.

Excellent read "theteamtobeat"
Good to see another Lions supporter taking the time and making an effort to write a Mock Draft.

Should be interesting to see how it compares to the real thing.
Well done

Yeah, I agree. That was a bloody good read theteamtobeat. Looks to me like you've watched the young blokes quite closely. Don't agree with some of your selections but you make a convincing case nonetheless.

This time of year is known for regurgitated, 2nd hand opinions but your mock is original and really well-thought out. :thumbsu:
