Just WOW!

If you get a chance listen to peter landy's call of the last quarter, it's hilarious. Landy was a dyed in the wool hawks supporter and it totally comes through. At one stage after an Essendon free kick he says 'well they're getting everything now'. Seriously, there can't have been a more lukewarm call (from landy) of one of the most exciting last quarters in a grand final and any of the 9 Essendon goals. Fast forward to the 1993 GF and you couldn't have hoped for a more professional call from the Carlton supporting Ian Robertson.

The sound of his head deflating at the final siren was actually audible through his mic:

"Essendon winning their first flag since 1965 and the final score, 14.21.105 to 12.9.81"

No emotion at all, in fact his voice was completely deadpan and flatter than the Gibson Desert.

No mention at all of the comeback, eh Pete? No excitement? Just compete and utter deflation.

Robertson's call in 1993 was fantastic.

This pleases me!

4. Tom Bellchambers is back

The popular big man got the Bombers off to a flying start with his brilliant tap work at centre bounces. At quarter-time Essendon had six centre clearances to one and were 15 points ahead after Bellchambers kicked a goal on the siren. After missing 2016 and then suffering an injury pre-season, Bellchambers has reclaimed the No.1 ruck spot from Matthew Leuenberger. A goalkicker and a strong teammate, he even remonstrated on the bench with Taylor Adams after watching teammate Merrett being struck. His only down moment for the day was when he missed a set shot from the top of the square late in the last quarter, but his presence was a positive.

Assuming Walla and Hooker kick 5 and 3 goals respectively for the rest of the year, this will be the first year since 2000 that Essendon has four goal kickers over 30 goals.

Than answer to the thread title has to be 'Joe' doesn't it?

He's probably already top 10 in the league. Next year he'll be in the conversation with Paddy and Buddy.

Cannot believe that a player who will genuinely challenge Lloyd and Hird as EFC champions was on the list only 3 years after Lloyd retired.

The great thing about Essendon is that nearly every year they give you something to smile about. Some highlights for me include winning 16 games in a row in 1981, Timmy's goal in the night GF premierships in 84,85, 4 Danihers in same team, Sheedy and scarves, martians and marshmallows, Hird hugging the fan and recovering from complete face reconstruction, Wanganeen, Hird and Jobe's brownlow, Zaharakis' ANZAC day goal, Round 2 2016 Round 1 this year and Joey pretty well every week. God I love this team.

Yellow stripe on the jumper this week, it all started as a celebration of Rama's return to footy after cancer.
Nice video on the Essendon site with some great Rama highlights.

Speaking of; being fined $20k for wearing the yellow armbands is one of those things that makes me smile. Just because it reminds me how clueless and generally incompetent the governing body of this sport is :)
