I realise that, but I'm talking moreso about when he does get tagged. Maybe people need to give Swan credit for out-working and beating his direct opponent, instead of it just being assumed that he's being "allowed" to "run free".

Swan is a smart footballer who benefits from Collingwoods large rotations policy. Even if someone is tagging him, he is so hard to nullify because he comes on the ground and has a huge impact and then comes off. There are next to no taggers in the AFL at the moment who can stop Swan's multiple bursts a quarter. If a run-with player is sent to him they have to out-perform him on his terms (i.e. 6-7 mins of gut running). It rarely happens.

Disclaimer: this is merely my understanding of the game Swan plays from watching Coll. games. May be right off the mark.

The Eagles wont make the GF this year, Finals a different game to the regular season. The team that beat Geelong on Friday night had 12 players who have not played in a final before, 10 of which have joined the club after 2007, the last time Eagles made a final

We are struggling without our too KPP, we need Jamo back and a 100% fit Waite to stay in the 4.

Amazing isn't it. As soon as we lost Jamison in the West Coast game (Waite didn't play either), Henderson moved down back and we bombed it into the forward line in hope, and due to the excellent pressure applied by the Eagles.

Fast forward to last night, we're 43-16 up in the 2nd quarter, Waite goes down injured......we lose our structure and just bomb it long and surprise surprise, the dogs intensity and pressure rises resulting in 12 goals to 3 from that point on.

We need Jamison and Waite in to even be a remote threat in the finals.

If we win a final this year , most supporters would be content with 2011 , I think :footy:

Things i learnt:

1. Chad Cornes is still an arrogant w***er

2. Dogs & Saints are definitely coming hard! (Especially StKilda given their draw over the next 4 wks)

3. Collingwood dont just put you to the sword, they chop you up into itty bitty pieces then piss on you to rub it in even more

4. Richmond.....

5. Eagles....... Wow, continue to impress :thumbsu:

yet another Bigfootyism that's creeping in, much like the chronic tendency for some to inexplicably use just "bias" when they should be using "biased".

It's MOOT point. Not mute  English, it's real hard...
hehe nah i like it, because of the double meaning.

a MOOT point is meaningless and shouldnt be spoken, and is therefore a MUTE point!

Not saying he is gonna go close at all but if by some miracle Dale Thomas loses the brownlow by under 3 points, he can thank Mick Malthouse for subbing him in a game where he was clear BOG for 2 and a half quarters of football. Could have finished with 40 possessions and 5 goals.

Are they changing the rules on the Brownlow this year?

Carlton are missing so many players, people are blind because they just see that Murph/Judd/Gibbs are fine so we musn't have any injuries.

Would definitely say WCE, Geelong and Collingwood are much more full strength then us.
Hawks could make a case though.

Carrazzo a late out, Walker had food poisoning, Waite injured in the first quarter, Jamo our best defender injured, White our 2nd best defender injured, Curnow still recovering from his injury, Hampson out still.

All best 22 except probably Hampson who would be a handy inclusion though.

Without 3-4 of these guys I probably wouldn't have any excuses, but with 7 our depth isn't that strong. Not worried at all personally.

Yeah Hawks can make a pretty strong case,

Stratton, Gilham, Roughead, Sewell, Rioli, Lisle, Bateman, Schoenmakers, Renouf, Bruce.

Breaking it down that is 5 KPP's (3 of our best 4 backs)
1 Ruck (fringe Best 22)
2nd best Inside mid
Best small forward (mid rotation)

Carlton should be able to make do without Jamo & Waite, I thought Kruezer should have gone permanent forward with the mosquito fleet at his feet. In the end you got nothing out of any of them and when Warnock went forward he looked completely lost.

1. I fill happy for a Monday morning...oh wait that's coz Melbourne didn't play and couldn't disappoint me :)

I think we have another.

meh. English is a mongrel language that is constantly evolving. Witness the drift in meaning of "it begs the question".

You are both right, but on an 80/20 split. Give it a few years and it might go 20/80...

No, the phrase is "moot point". Any bastardisation (eg. "mute point") is simply incorrect.

What you said is exactly right. I just get frustrated when people don't give Swan the credit he deserves for thoroughly outworking opponents. It's always dismissed as "nobody was tagging him" or "he was allowed to run free" or something to that effect. He might not be as damaging with the footy as Pendlebury (kicks more goals and sets up just as many though), but if you "allow him to run free", he'll cut you up, just like any good player will. The thing is though, he is rarely just "allowed to run free", but instead simply beats his opponent the majority of the time. It doesn't apply as much to the North Melbourne game (as he wasn't tagged, but still managed outpoint Daniel Wells in a head-to-head battle), but is more a general comment on something that annoys me.

Things I have learnt ...

The premiership will be won from the top 4
The top two are most likely win through to Prelims
However, West Coast will find it hard to win in Melbourne but may make a Prelim final if they make the top four
Collingwood are most likely to win the Premiership but its 50/50 on grand final day...

The rest, to me, is just conjecture...

Personally, I think that no team tags Swan and that teams can afford to wait until the grand final and put the hard tag on him and he will crumble to nothing....
