Things i learned from round 16

Many supporters of sides that are around the same level as us are really enjoying the chance to sink the slippers into the tiges. We were always going to fall over at some stage this season considering the ave games / age of our list.

We are tracking in the right direction and some of the comments in this thread are completely ridiculous.

PS: Have a good finals compaign Essendon lol.

-The Bulldogs will fill the last spot in the 8. St. Kilda may just scrape in also.
-Carlton will finish in the top 4 ahead of West Coast, but get belted by Collingwood in the 1st final, clinch a win over the Eagles in Week 2, before getting walloped for the 2nd time in 3 weeks by the Cats in the Prelim.
-The unjustified hype surrounding West Coast is becoming ridiculous, despite beating Geelong (however only just and at Subi), they are yet to beat or even get close to Collingwood and I am not sold on them at all until they do so. Although their transformation has been pretty good, they are not yet a top 4 side and people are carrying on as though they just won the flag. Have clearly overtaken Carlton as the most overrated side in the comp.
-Cannot tip games involving Essendon correctly, can get 6 or 7 tips every week but not 8.

ahhh someone is still bitter:eek:

Is that right? Richmond at least led and looked OK for a half or so before hitting the wall. Seems to me we're better situated to improve than some other teams undergoing "total rebuilds".

Wouldn't it be more appropriate/accurate to use average list ages/games played (rather than the average age of your side this week) to assess where a side's entire list is at?

No Eagles' supporters think that we are anywhere near Collingwood either, so that point is mute.

People have been looking for excuses for each Eagles' win this year: North lost a ruckman before the game started (even though so did the Eagles), anyone can beat Adelaide and Port Adelaide at Aami (maybe so but it is the first time we have done in our history), haven't beaten any top teams yet, etc etc.

Then we beat 2 teams in the top 4 and we are overrated? Sorry, but you had the chance to beat us on Friday and you did not so spare us the overrated crap.

Carlton are missing so many players, people are blind because they just see that Murph/Judd/Gibbs are fine so we musn't have any injuries.

Would definitely say WCE, Geelong and Collingwood are much more full strength then us.
Hawks could make a case though.

Carrazzo a late out, Walker had food poisoning, Waite injured in the first quarter, Jamo our best defender injured, White our 2nd best defender injured, Curnow still recovering from his injury, Hampson out still.

All best 22 except probably Hampson who would be a handy inclusion though.

Without 3-4 of these guys I probably wouldn't have any excuses, but with 7 our depth isn't that strong. Not worried at all personally.

I would have thought average of the the 22 on the park across the season would be fairer. Having extra teenagers playing in the WAFL/VFL doesn't effect how well an Matt Rosa or Brett Deledio perform on gameday

WC although being one of the younger lists - haven't been fielding young sides. So although it looks like we are performing well - it's been with a fairly mature side. If you want young - look at what Richmond and ourselves did last year

-The tanking has begun for some
Port Adelaide need some MASSIVE changes, they don't show much passion, at all (other then the 3rd quarter fight)
Port are unwatchable.
Just tanking after 2 goals in two minutes MP puts players behind the ball and choke things up and doesn't change it all game, obviously gunning for that pick 4

oh there watchable just have a shot whenever port make a turnover and when they spoil an easy mark

That whoever i make my supercoach captain will play 10mins and get injured.

Time to make a Magpie or 2 my captain.Just gotta decide which Pies player i want to injure next week.

-Carlton will finish in the top 4 ahead of West Coast, but get belted by .

What happened in round 16 that helped you learn that and have you had a look at carlton, hawthorn and west coasts draws ? Eagles don't play another side in the 8 this year aside from freo, would have to drop off massively to miss the four.

Indeed only 12% of people on here agree with you

Sounds like a classic case of the "my team got beaten by your team so I am going to disrespect them" :D

I learned that a lot of footy supporters are sheep who follow media personalities who more often than not have an agenda. Cats totally written off for example, even though this is exactly the time of year they should be slowing/staggering. HAving lost in Subi, on 2 six day breaks, with Milburn, Mackie, Byrnes, Mooney and Selwood missing from best 22. Cats would be having epic lulz at the frothing at the mouth from flogs like Dermie et el.

Carlton have one quality tall defender, and when he is out, they get bent over. If I were Stix, I'd be offering Judd's sperm sample to the Dogs for Lake. He would win them a flag.

Callan Ward WILL be that good...

North MUST trade anyone with any first round currency and do it all at once. This list will NEVER win a flag. Mcintosh, Goldstein, Petrie and Wells. Offload em and start again with top 10 picks. Sounds crazy, but if they dont do something crazy now, they're gonna spend the next 10 years in the bottom 10.

Port should also trade anyone of currency, although sadly, they have no one.

Crazy Vossy still cant coach.

Buckley has more balls than Keno. If i were sitting in the wings, I'd be too embarrassed to even think about usurping a bak to back premiership all time great. It reeks of arrogance and I am staggered it is actually happening.

Media are douche bags. When the bombers were without Hurley etc they wrote them off, not acknowledging what certain losses do to a club.

Geelong will win the flag.

Having extra teenagers playing in the WAFL/VFL doesn't effect how well an Matt Rosa or Brett Deledio perform on gameday

No but is does affect the prospects of the list going forward, which is the whole point of the exercise - to assess where the list is at now, and what they are building towards for the future.

ahhh someone is still bitter:eek:

Was I trying to take the gloss of your win, and I am bitter because I suggested the Eagles are overrated? Riight.
Many seem to be suggesting West Coast are certain flag contenders/lock for a top 4 spot. Sure you are well and truly in the mix for a spot in the top 4, but to suggest the above is going a bit far.
Top 8 definitely, and more than likely well and truly in the mix for a top 4 spot, but for people to suggest the Eagles are a lock for a top 4 spot is ridiculous, as some have.

1 Dogs getting better won,t change anything in the end
2 Carlton may be pretenders after all
3 Eagles very good, finals, but no flag
4 Collingwood beat no one today but are nearly ...nearly unbeatable
5 Hawthorn could have been the magpie bogeyman but injuries have all but ruined this season
6 Yes anyone thinks Geelong are dead are stupid
7 It will be a magpie or a cat that wins the flag , and that will depend on how the eight finishes as those two clubs may not face each other, but one of them will be premiers.
8 All the rest it doesn,t matter this year is almost done and dusted.
9 The other thing I learnt from round 16 was that the spread of mediocrity will lay its foul stench all over the competition next year with another fake team GWS added.
10 The word diluted keeps comming up in my head when I think of footy these days.

That whoever i make my supercoach captain will play 10mins and get injured.

Time to make a Magpie or 2 my captain.Just gotta decide which Pies player i want to injure next week.

Maybe if we team up, we can destroy Collingwood's chances this year?
I have single handedly destroyed Jobe Watson, Bartel for a few weeks, now Ablett.

Together we can make a difference.

I would suggest Collingwood has out Dawes, Didak, N.Brown, Johnson, Beames, MaCaffer with blokes like Mccarthy and Goldsack in the magoos. We also have Jolley just coming back. In fact we had a third gamer, second gamer and first gamer play today. That is depth.

I agree , I think now that only Geelong can get the pies, the season is not a good one and injured teams are the norm these days, stay healthy and your it this year.
Pies haven,t been cleaned out yet with injuries as most other contenders have, the Eagles have a full list they are travelling well but they simply can,t beat Collingwood.

Not debating Collingwood's depth, Dawes/Didak/Brown all injured but I think the others are just in and out of the best 22? The pies are clearly the front runners of the comp anyway, no debating that. :(

Not in the context I used, i.e. to show the dearth of experience/maturity in Richmond's Saturday night team compared with others this weekend. Your club is the team it puts on the park, not Farmer because he isn't ready or Didak because he's injured or Johnson because there are better options.

Beams, Johnson and Macaffer have all been out of the side because they're dealing with/recovering from injury, not because they've simply been omitted. Brad Dick is another best 22 contender who won't play for the rest of the season (and could possibly retire due to persistent injuries, a la Sean Rusling) who gets overlooked as well.

Sounds like a classic case of the "my team got beaten by your team so I am going to disrespect them" :D

Let's have a look then:
R17 v St. Kilda at Etihad- Loseable
R18 v Fremantle at Subi- Loseable
R19 v Bulldogs at Etihad- Loseable
R20 v Richmond at Subi- Win
R21 v Melbourne at Etihad- Likely win, but I'd give a glimmer of hope for the Dees if they are switched on and really firing.
R22 v Essendon at Subi- Likely win, but wouldn't write off the Bombers completely.
R23 v Brisbane at Gabba- Win
R24 v Adelaide at Subi- Win

Could very well lose to Dogs and Saints in Melbourne, Freo also. BTW just did the afl.com.au ladder predictor and got this for the top 5:
1. Collingwood -- 21-0-1 -- 185.8% -- 84
2. Geelong -- 19-0-3 -- 135.5% -- 76
3. Hawthorn -- 18-0-4 -- 131.4% -- 72
4. Carlton -- 15-1-6 -- 122.2% -- 62
5. West Coast -- 15-0-7 -- 124.3% -- 60

Not disrespecting the Eagles at all, just don't see why you are a definite lock for the top 4 as some are suggesting?

Things I learned...

We're on fire at the minute. 5 wins in a row including Carlton away and Geelong at home. Not sure how long we can keep it up but am enjoying the ride.

3-team bye weeks suck, 18 teams can't come soon enough.

One live game of footy on WA FTA TV this weekend. 2012 TV rights deal can't come soon enough.

The Dogs and Saints aren't out of it. Both started 2011 very poorly but have started to hit some form. We will have our work cut out facing both in coming weeks. Will be interesting if either make it to September in form.

Let's have a look then:
R17 v St. Kilda at Etihad- Win
R18 v Fremantle at Subi- 50/50 coz its the derby
R19 v Bulldogs at Etihad- Should win, but dogs could pinch it
R20 v Richmond at Subi- Win
R21 v Melbourne at Etihad- Garenteed win, dees dont win under the roof
R22 v Essendon at Subi- 100% win
R23 v Brisbane at Gabba- Win
R24 v Adelaide at Subi- Win

Fixed :thumbsu:

Going by their season, Eagles SHOULD pretty much win all and make top 4

-The Bulldogs will fill the last spot in the 8. St. Kilda may just scrape in also.
-Carlton will finish in the top 4 ahead of West Coast, but get belted by Collingwood in the 1st final, clinch a win over the Eagles in Week 2, before getting walloped for the 2nd time in 3 weeks by the Cats in the Prelim.

Wow i think you are lucky we took our foot of the pedal in the third quarter my boy. Perhaps a slice of humble pie for you may be required. The thing you should remember is our club didn't aim for a premeirship this year but our squad will remain competative for the next 4-5 years i hope your dads army full of mid field plodders will also be around.
