was just down at my brothers house and my niece was doing maths homework. she's in year 5. in the second of three maths classes in her school. two of the questions i noticed she was doing were "If Johnny has 2 dollars and spends 75 cents how much does he have left?" and "Colour in two thirds of the rabbit"?
Is that seriously the standard that is being set? or am i just looking back thinking we were doing a lot tougher stuff in my day (i was year 5 in 1995). admittedly i was real good at maths (it should be called arithmetic, not maths, but that's another issue) when i was younger and was always in the top few of my year, but surely that's not what the kids who were sitting in the middle of the year were doing in their class?
