Surds are an irrational number expressed as the root of a whole number.

We used them in specialist maths as a way of simplifying an answer, instead of writing an answer to x decimal places. Helps with accuracy when using an answer in another part of a question. Doubt they have any practical use though

My head..

Foundation Maths was my go.

Geez those old birds on the Cougar website ads are a rough looking bunch. I'm not sure why anyone would try to find lurve amongst that lot of bunny boilers.

Why do people race breaststroke? The long glide, arms never leave the water, can easily hold head above water to sight ahead - it's a survival stroke, designed to assist swimming long distances easily (and slowly). If you want to swim breaststroke faster, you swim freestyle. Are elementary backstroke and sidestroke going to become Olympic sports someday??
Why do people race running? If you want to move faster, race a car.

Seriously though, why not? I used to race competitively and breaststroke was my main stroke. I'd go as far as to say that my breaststroke times were faster than my freestyle times.

I think the better question would be, why do people race by walking???

Like walking in the Olympics. Just run. Or at least jog ffs.

It just seems silly to exert effort to do a stroke that mechanically is designed to require little effort. Why don't we race survival backstroke or sidestroke?

I also raced when I was younger and breaststroke was my best stroke (not strong enough to be fast at freestyle and couldn't go straight doing backstroke). It just doesn't feel right trying to swim it fast these days. Now I mainly use breaststroke as a recovery stroke and as my go to stroke if there is some eye candy in the pool nearby (rarity).

From what I've seen, a good breaststroke technique is harder than a good freestyle technique.

I ended up with the most painful sunburn I've ever had because I was swimming breaststroke. I was swimming in Cooper's Creek on a stinking hot day and because I shut my eyes when they neared the water, the sun reflected off the water and onto my eyelids. It was very unpleasant.

Why advertisers use kids in ads for non kids things.
This has been going on for ages now, but only last night I saw a kid advertising superannuation & the new Jeep.
I just don't get it - have they run out of adult actors or is there an angle I am just missing.

Targeting parents guilt in a different way. Idealising the kids in the ad and associating them with the product to make parent's want the product as they associate it with successful parenting.

What does everyone have against the Soda Stream?
I like soda water, it allows me to make my own from tap water, I can then chill it in my fridge and at a later point enjoy chilled soda water. I understand that not everyone enjoys doing this, but why would anyone have something against it?

Or is it just a case of the ads being annoying?

You're 17 and like all 17 year olds you don't know your arse from your elbow.
Yep I couldn't care less if my missus decided to become the town bike and I'm sure she wouldn't have a problem if I started shagging anything with a pulse:confused:

Guess I don't know my arse from my elbow either
