God no, not at a private school. I wouldnt describe it 100% professional dress (dont have to wear button shirts or suits), but can't wear jeans or casual type clothes either.

Am so comfortable today. No boots, no bloody heels.

I had teachers who wore sandals and socks with knee length shorts. Not a good look, even for the 80s.

To add to the pleasant mental picture, he also had massive sweat stains under both armpits that could peel the varnish on the first two rows of desks when he wrote on the blackboard. Unsuprisingly, he was also English, Bat Bob we used to call him for some reason. Aside from all that though, he wasn't a bad bloke and as a rule, any teacher who tried teach me maths post year 9 has my sympathy.
