I got asked for ID last night and will turn 29 this year. Winning.

Getting asked for ID in the states all the time is less pleasing, particuarly when some places will only accept passports. Funnily enough I'm not rapt with the idea of taking my passport in my pocket when going out on the booze.

Here's me buying booze in a California supermarket...

Clerk: Can I see some ID please sir
Me: *Hand him my license*
Clerk: I've never see one of these before
Me (pointing at my address and the fact it says DRIVERS LICENSE WESTERN AUSTRALIA on it in large letters): It's an Australian driver's license, I'm from Perth
Clerk: Oh cool. So you live in Washington now, huh?
Me: Wat

Yep, I'm from Perth, Western Australia and I've got a Western Australian drivers license issued from the state of Washington. Ugh, he probably owns a semi-automatic weapon too.

TBF WA licenses look like something you could have knocked up on a photocopier and run through the laminator at the library.

I have had mates from WA knocked back from getting into places in NSW because they look so crappy.

Yep. The QLD licenses used to be similar. I scanned one and edited the details on photoshop before laminating it, it was passable in a lot of places.

Yeah I remember the first time I saw a QLD licence (only 5 years ago or so). I could not believe that was all they were.

Reaching 1,000 posts. Woo hoo! ;)

it's really weird i've noticed a few posters tallies lately that were really low. I would've sworn you'd be way beyond that... also A SWALLOW only has about 500 posts. I must have read them all. I feel like i'm reading something of his a few times a day.

And then I also saw someone today with 30k+ posts and i've never seen them before. Obviously people lurk on different board and/or change usernames

Our licenses look like this (top) now. They're not as 1980s as the rest of the state.

i've not seen a WA licence (that i can remember) but they can't be worse than irish licences.

they're somewhere between cardboard and paper, laminated, and they fold in three but they're still twice the size of a credit card.

and that middle section, rather than just a nice easy list of the vehicles you're eligible to drive, they list all possible vehicles that a person can drive, and then put a stamp next to the ones you're allowed to drive.

don't know if they're still like that but they were as little as 3 years ago. they could also be used in other european countries, i've never really been that interested.

Other than the colour, Victorian licences are the same, and made the same transition from bottom to top supposedly to make counterfeiting more difficult.

Oh is the museum opened now??? Disappointed it wasnt open when I was there. If could take some photos of that and post them up please!!! (assuming you're allowed to take photos)

And I recommend Chicago for a musical. It's about the only musical I can stand, saw it in NYC last year when I was there. :thumbsu:

Apparently not, I was misinformed :( If it opens up before I leave though I will definitely check it out.

I really want to see Phantom of the Opera...desperately. We were going to see Chicago on the weekend but ran out of time.

Yeah, got to admit that I didn't post much at all in the first few years.

Dat chip. Jelly?

the chip makes me nervous more than anything.

what's the point of it anyway? when do you insert it into a machine? surely not going into nightclubs and what not... that's not a breach of privacy or anything :(

I don't really like the theatre but went to see Chicago with the girlfriend when we were in New York and thought it was great (never saw the movie or anything either).

I like musical theatre but I really hated Chicago for some reason. Maybe it's because I saw the movie - I've never really liked many film adaptions of musicals.

Matilda is currently doing its first run on Broadway - that would be my pick if I was there. However, Phantom and The Lion King are must-sees if you haven't been to them previously.

I really liked Wicked as well. Haven't seen Jersey Boys or Mamma Mia! but I hear they're fantastic.

I don't really understand the appeal of musicals myself.

If you want to listen to some music, put a CD on.
Where else can you see bad actors (pretend to) sing?

That's like saying why read a book when you can see the movie. It's a completely different medium.

I think it's easy to not enjoy musicals if you have never been to a really good theatrical production. Same goes for opera. I tried listening to a full cast recording of Aida a few years ago and never made it through. Last year I went to the Opera Australia production and was completely drawn into the story.

Of course a lot of people have been to musicals/opera and still don't like them. I understand that. But I still reckon everyone should give it a go at some point.

I went to Phantom last year and it was good. Also Mary Poppins for my aunt's birthday which was a lot of fun even including that flog Matt Le.
