Incorrect. Gillard always stated , while PM , that it was her parties policy to be opposed to SSM and she followed her parties wishes.

The SSM plebiscite isn't looking like a masterstroke now

Unless the polls are massively flawed, a plebiscite on same-sex marriage will deliver a big majority for change. That could be a problem for Malcolm Turnbull given the schisms in his party.
