Tempted to buy a shock collar and stick it on the owners of the barking dogs that surround my house. FFS, not sure how people put up with their own dog barking all hours let alone expect other people too. Can I call the council? Have tried the friendly approach now I just want blood.

So abuse your dog for displaying natural instincts instead of teaching and rewarding it for discipline?
That is some serious funny shit. The dog learns quick not to bark when the collar is on. Some dogs never learn and will bark at night. Most dogs belong outside. It is a disgusting habit to let most dogs live inside.

And the house will be broken in to and the dog won't make a peep because it is afraid to bark.

A trained dog is no more disgusting inside than a trained human.

Buy a shock collar!
So taking away the dogs only method of communication? Yep. Great idea.

The stupidity of some people astounds me.

I suppose finding out why an animal is continually barking and attending to what's it trying to tell you, ie it's hungry , is bored , is lonely is just a stupid idea. Yep def better to give it a zap. Your poor dog.

Should extend it to collars for babies, every time they cry they get shocked, that will shut them up quick.

How's about exploding collars for babies? Baby cries - no more baby. Plus, it's fun trying to make new ones. Seriously, you can make your own people!

A friend had a dog who didn't bark - they had trained it not to. It accidentally got shut in in the back of their station wagon after a morning down the beach - they went about their morning rituals, locked up and went out for a few hours, came home, carried on doing their usual routine and then that evening went to feed the dog. I'm sure you know what the outcome was.

The dog down the road from us, a small basset hound used to bark everytime someone walked past or When they went out and at times it was relentless due to I'm sure sheer boredom - The solution - a collar. It now just sits in the corner of the yard - doesnt lift its head, doesn't wag it's tail, acknowledge anyone walking past or bark - they must be really proud that they broke his spirit.

If it barks at night continually at the neighbours coming home, their cat, their dog, birds, the wind blowing, etc then he gets the collar put on him for the night. Stop being a drama queen. He doesn't have it on all the time!

Our local vet sold dog collars which put out a small electric shock when your dog barks for more than a set time.

I remember one time a lady came in and asked if they came in a smaller size (for her little white shitzu), the attendant came around the reception desk, picked up the collar, placed it around her neck and said "I don't think you need one any smaller".

Walked back to her seat and sat down, completely dead-pan.

ISIL will be all over that one.

Do you mean he put it round the owners neck?

But he's not carrying on at nothing! There's always a reason. Knowing why is called 'being a responsible pet owner'

If my boy barks at night, then I know something is in the yard. Might be a possum but I still praise him for looking out for his family! The only other times he barks is when we wrestle, or when I'm 'attacking' the Mrs ;)

My first puppy never barked which made him pretty useless as a guard dog.

The other one who died recently always barked but seemed to stop at about 11pm. We had been training him and keeping him outside. He got used to it eventually.
