My own insecurities shit me. Attempted open mic stand up.
All before it I was trying hard to calm myself and not make such a deal about it.
Then my time comes, my turn. Went up on stage. Straight away insecurities kick in and stage fright. Can't remember a word or my material which I've had for six months prepared and I'm completely humiliated in front of a crowd of about 50 people. Walk off in shame.

So disappointed in myself. Feel like shit now.

It will sound like lip service but at least you walked out there - that in itself is a big deal. At least you now know what it feels like and that can only make it a little easier next time. You just have to keep putting yourself forward and it will come together for you. Good luck

You need to reverse this process....Forget about calming yourself & channel that nervous energy into your act....In attempting to suppress your nervous energy, you have shut yourself & all your systems down before getting out there....That's why you crashed.

Embrace the nervous energy, let it flow, it's your best asset & the audience want to see it.

If that ever happens again, pick out a bald, fat or ugly person in the crowd and just abuse them. Get as personal as required, put the focus on them while you resettle.

as soon as you think about bad things before attempting something, you will inevitably think and do it. i suggest thinking about a red balloon before walking on stage

Nah. Not affiliated with my uni.

It started with my friend wanting to learn, so I thought it would be a good thing to do with a friend, but I was on a higher level than him, thus not in same class, so he quit haha

But I have a solid enough base knowledge, got better resources than most at home, and can already speak partially a dialect of Chinese, so I'm confident I can become fluent enough for my occupation in a few years time.

Just a handy skill to have and looks good on a resume.

it is a handy skill yes. in my time studying the language a portion of my lecturers were not of chinese origin. it was good.

fluency comes with practice. so after finishing its vital you move to china and become immersed in it. writing is bloody hard and i look back fondly on my time when i could write and read everything

Just put my sandwiches in for toasting and walked away for a couple of minutes until they were ready.
When I went back in, someone had turned it off and unplugged it from the wall. Yes we have an obsessed person who honestly unplugs everything in our kitchen. If they could reach the microwave plug they'd probably unplug that as well.
