I couldn't care less about my birthday. It shits me when people try to pressure me into organising an event to celebrate, like it's beyond reason that somebody genuinely doesn't care about their birthday.

The worst is when people say "its my birthday week!" or even worse "my birthday month!" Listen you self centred twat you get one day and one day only stop trying to claim the whole of February

It's not like having a birthday is much of an achievement worth celebrating anyway unless you're turning 100.

All you're celebrating is the fact you've got another year older which happens to everyone every f***ing year until they die, it's nothing special.

All of my wife's group of friends have to have some bullshit extravaganza to celebrate another meaningless birthday. It has to take a least a day or worse, and all plans have to be put on hold to attend. PLUS everyone needs to contribute about $100 for a present. If you dont attend your disowned. This weekend its a 36th birthday at f***ing adventure world. Adventure world! Its a place for kids FFS! Standing in lines with teenagers, swimming in pissed drenched pools, paying $80 just to get in the hole. Then it carries on all night at some hipster wankhole. All for a 36th birthday. Not a milestone. Im playing cricket on the Saturday and have told them they can GAGF - but when I said I couldnt go oh jesus it was like I raped the mother teresa in full public view.

Some of my mates and their lack of commitment to anything. At footy training at the start of the week and mid-week we tend to discuss what we'll do on the weekend. Literally every week one of my good mates will say "maybe", "I might come but I won't go anywhere afterwards" or some other garbage response. Now he's a good bloke and ripper fun when he comes anywhere with us, but for some reason he just seems to be so carefree about whether or not he does anything each weekend. I have no issues with someone wanting to stay home every once in a while, or for a couple of weeks if they're down on cash, feeling a bit down or whatever, but this has been going on since we finished school. He didn't rock up to his life long friends 18th celebrations because "he was busy studying uni preferences" which was a pathetic excuse seeing as he still had ages to worry about them. His parents are known to be real strict and won't let him go overseas till he's 21 (that's when his sister was allowed) so maybe that's a factor, but gee it's hard to put up with this crap weekly.

I'm already imagining how distant he'll be once he finds a girlfriend.
Maybe his going through some stuff

Nothing wrong with celebrating birthday.

Another case of those shitting on people who are actually enjoying things, no matter how little.

Although birthday week is a bit much. Never heard of it before though.
No one said there was anything wrong with celebrating a birthday - it's the extremes that some go to and want on their birthdays and expect you to be part of it. You want to celebrate great, just don't expect others to share the same enthusiasm.

And fwiw, this may surprise you but it's the "shit me" thread not the "things that please me" parade we are raining on

It's more annoying when you want to have a chilled birthday, and you end up spending a day/night seemingly seeing a bunch of people who shit you after a while.

Not sleeping and having to start early bells. Made worse by the fact that it will be 12 hours until you stop and about 18 hours until I'm back in bed.

Make that 17:55, tick tock tick tock

Do they all post a photo collage on Facebook of photos of them with the birthday girl? If they don't they don't care about her birthday!

perhaps a generalisation, but as you age (especially after uni) you tend not to make a big or small deal of your bday. in todays facebook/instagram society where its look at me everyday, bdays are important to show the world. its a gathering of your friends who can post and tag you for an immense network to see.

personally i like to go to ground on bday. no references to it wherever. but hey, everyones different.

new topic: you've written an email to a client/customer about issue ABC, they reply to said email but talk about another topic/issue/order/topic.

Considering how excited parents get over their kids birthdays, from the age of 1, it's no surprise they grow up with a cultivated need to celebrate their birthday and make a big deal of it.

That need probably withers with age as the person begins to feel "old" even at the age of 23 and because they've done it so many times its beginning to lose its meaning.

Biting in the inside of your cheek when chewing food, I reckon I must have fat cheeks, do it a lot and the pain is immense.

I do it occasionally and it really throws a spanner in the works when you're chowing down on something.

Birthdays are a big deal when you're a kid but they don't mean much when you're an adult apart from the usual milestones like your 18th, 21st, 50th etc.

Can't see myself getting sick of birthdays or Christmas. Yeah, they happen every year but why not enjoy them? On birthdays I basically do what I want. I don't drag friends into it or anything.

That being said, I hate when they do the cake thing at work. So awkward. I'm taking a holiday this year so I won't be around fortunately.
