My year 11 books were Montana 1948 and Macbeth, same as toddys above^^. Year 12 was Romulus, my father and Catcher in the rye (as well as the movie Look both ways).

The amount of people that didn't even bother to read Montana 1948 was staggering. I thought it was pretty good.

Read that in Year 10. Loved it. Also read Catcher in the Rye last year, was just as epic. And while we're on decent yank books, I also read In Cold Blood for Year 12 this year.

In year 11 I got Gattaca and a few shitty books I can't even remember, year 12 got Look Both Ways (horrible horrible movie), some play and a couple of books I can't remember again. All VCE English did for me was ruin reading books for a few years, having to read a book you have no interest in several times and over analyse the shit out of it was torture. Best was year 9 when we got Blade Runner, only downside was having to put up with the teacher pulling things like "the clear coat is symbolic for the frailty of mankind" type stuff out of her rear. Biggest joke was doing Bend it Like Beckham and having to right essay on that, worse is I've heard Twilight is on the booklist for year 7 at some schools now.

Honestly found VCE English to be a massive waste of time all it was useful for in the end was wrecking my final ENTER score by having to count but being my lowest score. Blitzed the opinion piece but bombed badly on the book / film analysis as well as that mid year test, GET or something, had to write an essay on chocolate or something stupid when I'm allergic to it.

tldr: High school turned me from being an avid reader to hating books until 5 years later.

The GAT :thumbsu:. I enjoyed that a lot. Our essay was about bees, and I wrote the best damn bee essay every written. I ended up in the top 5 or 10% or something for it, but only got around 65 for my ENTER :( haha. I blame Biology.

Ah A I knew it was General ? Test, but yeah freaking chocolate, I haven't been able to eat it in over a decade and I was expected to write 1000 words on it. Flunked it bad and it dragged down my scores. English ended up being my lowest by 10 study score points, got in the 40s before scaling for three of my subjects, mid 30's for maths and 26 for English. But since English had to count maths got knocked out so English could count, I blame nothing I still gota ENTER in the 80s just lacked any actual direction to do anything with it :(

I believe they may be books?
Well, strictly speaking, Twelfth Night is a play :p

Haha, very nice.

I didn't do VCE English, but my Literature class did Hamlet, Will You Please Be Quiet Please (worst collection of short stories known to man), William Blake poetry and The Great Gatsby in year 11. In year 12 we did A Passage to India, Under Milkwood and Judith Beveridge poetry. We did The Catcher in the Rye and Romeo and Juliet in year 10, which are pretty common. Nevertheless, I think that talking about footballers would have been frowned upon!

My povo public school only made us read two books throughout my entire five years of high school. Year 11 - Of Mice and Men. Yea 12 - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (loved it).

Catcher and the Rye in first year of uni....hated it.

I remember reading some boring Australian books for year 11 English. But I would have loved to gone to stratton gun's school where you could do a primary school presentation in year 11.

I wish.

Actually in year 12 we had to give an oral presentation on a current issue. I talked about the umpire decision review system as they were just trialling it at the time. Nailed it, got an 'A'. ;)
I did an oral presentation on how to give oral presentations. All i did was reel off a list of dos and don'ts and exaggerated for comedic effect. Also nailed it ;)

We had to do boring books as well. From memory "Dinner at the homesick restaurant" and "A Doll's house".

Juggling with Mandarins, Sky Burial, Boy Overboard, Macbeth and Pagan's Crusade were books I had to study and they were all a bore.

The only one I loved was The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

Boy overboard is pretty basic for y11 isn't it. I read it when i was about 10 and really enjoyed it. Last book I probably read outside of school

People who issue an apology along the lines of “if anybody was offended, I apologise”. It’s cop-out bullshit.

Why are you even asking “if anybody was offended”? Why would you apologising if nobody was offended?

And you don’t apologise for what somebody else is feeling (offence etc)... that’s their feelings, you don’t apologise for them. You apologise for what you said or did.

You’re either sorry, or you’re not. Don’t put in qualifiers that dissolve you of blame of what you did. Responsibility ducking, cop-out bullshit.

I should specify and clarify.

Boy Overboard and Juggling With Mandarins were year 7.

Another one I forgot was Holes (year 8 along with Pagan's Crusade.)

Year 9 was A Bridge To Wiseman's Cove.

Year 10, Macbeth.

Year 11, The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas.

Year 12, don't know, don't care.

Forgot about Macbeth, did that one year, worst part was watching the black and white movie version of the play.

If you people think that Year 12 English involves 'analysing the shit out of a book', you should try Lit. I do both, English is practically a free period.
Year 10 English teacher suggested doing lit, decided come year 11 I couldn't be stuffed studying hard when I had no direction anyway. I have no issue with analysing materials, just hated over-analysing it to the point were every single little thing HAD to mean something other than what was directly written.

Totally agree on Lit. I'm doing it this semester and it makes English seem like light work, particularly in terms of analysing a novel. What shits me in English is teachers who waste an entire period prior to a SAC describing the structure of an essay. I'm in Year 11 and our teachers still do this FFS, we learnt it in about Year 8.
Anyway, mosquitoes shit me. You forget how irritating they are until you step outside and are bombarded by them.

Itunes deciding to shit itself and force me to upgrade to the newest version which hogs even more resources than it's predecessor for useless features, companies that insist on stupid password requirements which leads to forgetting the damn thing everytime.
