Figure the plane ride will be shorter. Get to board. Loose it. Do not get on plane. Get ticket refunded..
Go to your GP. Tell him you have a severe fear of flying an get him to prescribe some Valium / Diazepam.

Pop a pill or 2 (depending on the dosage) before a flight and you should be right as rain in future.

I move all spiders outside. They are good for your garden. I put a glass over them. Put a peice of paper underneath and then move.
What is it with Perth people and glassing?

This, do this. I have occasionally done this for international travel. Not because I am scared of flying but because I like to just chill out on the ride :thumbsu:

I've had a surreal week.

Last Sunday am minding my own business when mother calls. My sibling has attempted suicide. Husband left her a little while back, has got someone else. Not coping. Anyway i then get a phone call to say she's been admitted and discharged from ED. Next day attempts again. She lives in Melbourne. Im in Perth. I am phobic about plane travel but go over. Have a week with sister. Get all supports in place. Friends all rallying etc. Anyway i catch coach to Adelaide. Figure the plane ride will be shorter. Get to board. Loose it. Do not get on plane. Get ticket refunded. Go to bus station. Bus only available to Pt Augusta. One to Ceduna only goes Thursday. Missed this morning one. No trains except for Indian pacific. Twicea week. Booked out. No coaches from SA to WA.

Waiting for coach when i get talking to Arthur. Arthur is an interesting man. Lived everywhere. On the pension but drives to Perth all the time apparently. I did give him my number as i may need a lift. If i cant sort a hire car. He's just left for his own bus to where he lives. And already texted.

My life is a movie right now. A comedy of errors. Halppppp.
Sorry to hear about your sister. Hope she gets better.

I love flying.

I love the experience of going through the airport, waiting for the plane with a friend, getting on the plane, taking off, picking out all the movies you're gonna watch, even deliberating which of the two meals you're gonna have, eating the meal, I love all of that.

Waiting in line and the constant fear of losing your passport is annoying though.

Plus I will never push my seat back, and I think whoever does it in front of me is a ******* campaigner so I'll quietly rage on every plane ride I'm on.

The last plane ride back home, I just could not sleep at all and that was pretty uncomfortable.

How anyone can love flying I'll never know. All the positives do not outweigh the boredom- particularly if you are one of those people who can't fall asleep on a plane.
I don't mind flying, but my journey home a couple of weeks ago tested me. Off the boat in Miami at 9.00am, airport at 10.30, waited landside until 2.00pm to check in, another 3 hours air side. 5 and a half hours Miami - LA, bloke next to me kept coughing not covering his mouth, 5 times over the PA asking for anyone with medical knowledge/training, landed 20 minutes early - good news; no gate open, 32 minutes on the tarmac before we moved to the gate - not so good; another 15 minutes before we could get off as we waited for the paramedics to come on the plane; 4 and a half hour wait to board flight to Brisbane, another 45 minutes on the tarmac as lost our slot as plane from JFK was late; had dinner, fell asleep, woke up thinking great able to fall asleep on the plane; looked at the flight map, 10 and a half hours to go, slept for about 40 minutes. Awake for the rest of the flight, my entertainment system froze with about 6 hours to go, was only able to play Shanghai. As we left late, missed my connection to Perth, another 3 hour wait in Brisbane, with the added bonus of beginnings of a sore throat, which developed into a cold, which I'm still not 100% over 2 weeks later - thanks for not covering your mouth f###wit

I actually love airports. Waiting for a connecting flight feels like your life is slightly on pause and an airport is an odd sort of environment.

Planes suck though, especially in peasant class. Floggos moving their seat back, no leg room, I can't even read or write properly on a plane ride because my head feels like it doesn't work properly.

I don't understand why plane seats recline if it's such a shit thing to do. I tend to half recline my seats if I'm flying in cattle class but I still don't 100% know the etiquette... why have a recline feature if it's a no no? I try and fly business when I can domestically and avoid that conundrum.

This, everything about flying annoys me: the queues, the annoying people, not being able to sleep. I think it's also because I only mainly fly for work and the people who are going on holidays are all "up and about", **** em.

Worst was on a flight back from Thailand and there were the prototypical Thailand visiting bogans all around me, drinking like it was going to be made illegal soon and laughing as loud as they could at anything.

I had an alcy mate who used to let himself into the pub for breakfast brandies.
That's the type of dedication that thankfully is why I'll never be an alco.

That anticipation of ordering a beer in the am, sitting at the bar with the lonely planet guide to you destination and no real idea as to what will unfold makes you feel liberated from the stresses of normal day to day society. Even though you're hardly braving the new world it's the closest to pure freedom I think one can feel.

So travel update.

Still stuck in Pt Augusta and what a wonderful town it is. Not. Think bogan city. Nice enough but not exactly the most intelligent people youve ever met. But i digress. Anyhoo. I thought i had struck gold. I remembered a friend was driving back from QLD in a truck with her boyfriend to Perth. Thought i could catch a lift with them. It's only a 2 seater she says but if you can get a rental car you can drive with us. No rental car anywhere. Sigh.

I've reverted to putting signs up eveywhere. My life has come to this. Merry xmas eveyone!

Can you go to the doc and get a valium for the plane? Where's your son? Please don't hitch a ride with a stranger back to WA.

I fall asleep easily :D
Admittedly fly internationally some 6 times a year (2 flights min) and a few interstate. Been flying since I was a little un tho.

I get excited after customs, getting to the lounge, boarding, putting peripherals onto the shelf in front (usb cable, pen, dettol hand wash). Like banana said, check out movies and tv to watch, selecting meals. And because I fly the same flight to and from the international city my body is attuned to time in the air. Therefore, time to go to dunny, stretch legs, fall asleep.
