When I grew up I remember being told at some point they were called hot cross buns because the idea was they were only baked the Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun morning & to be consumed while still warm (& only then, not at any other time thereafter).
In our house I think it was only the Sunday so that it was an easy cheap breakfast for us. From a religious perspective I believe it's supposed to only be Good Friday

I'm with others though, I could eat them warm, slathered with butter all year round
I hate the chocolate chip ones though

I've just seen a recipe for Flo's pumpkin scones - I'm going to give them a go and smother them in butter as well

Next week I'll be complaining about my weight again :)

I'll most likely be at the footy for Good Friday this year, so I'll most likely be eating a meat pie on the day. What are you gonna do, God, smite me?

As for hot cross buns, I'm holding off until Baker's Delight start selling them. Life is too short for supermarket hot cross buns.

that's one thing that shits me, people who don't follow a religion yet think they have to eat fish on good friday just because other people do it. If you are religious and you believe in it, then fair enough... but if you're not, you are just being a sheep basically.
Many may not be religious but Australia is very conservative. I bet a lot of people will still complain about sport being played on Good Friday.
