Maybe it's just me. I don't really see why it's important to get on the plane first. It's not as if it's an amusement park. We all get to leave at the same time. I usually wait til everyone is on before I even get out of my seat. It's not as if I just rocked up and pushed in. I had been in line before the people I was in front of and the way the terminal was packed I would have been annoying a lot more people by making my way to the end of the line as the two lines were pretty much squeezed together.

It is a line, if you think you should go ahead of someone then you ask them, not just shuffle in front of them and then act like they're the looney for confronting you. I'm not saying you committed a capital crime, but what you did was rude and you should have apologised and explained why you did what you did.

it you really didn't think it was important to get on the plane first you wouldn't have cut in line to begin with

you should quit the argument while you are behind :)

I said to the wife, "Excuse me. I was in the wrong line". She was fine. Then the husband piped up.

As I said, the lines were squeezed together and I would have been annoying a lot more people by forcing my way to the back of the line.

I doubt that
your original post:

So I slipped over to a gap in the next line. The guy behind me says, "Excuse me. We were lining up". I said that I was too but was in the wrong line.
It sounds like you need to work on communicating your intentions to strangers.

and what do you mean you couldn't go back to the line? were you lined up in a 1.5 metre wide tunnel or something?

Doubt it as much as you like. It's true.

The gates at the Jetstar terminal at Tullamarine are very close to each other so if you have planes leaving at the same time, which there were three yesterday you are standing side by side with people going on a different flight. So it was packed and I would have been pushing past people to get to the end of the line.

Assuming you were at the end section of the new pier of T4 I agree a lot of those lines to the "gates" are pretty close together and it wouldn't be hard to get confused but yeh, you defs cut in. Frankly I wouldn't care either, its not getting you off at your destination any quicker but getting on the plane and in your seat is important for some people.

I wouldn't care if somebody said "sorry I've been standing in the wrong line d'you mind if I cut in here?" but I would be annoyed if they just glided across and stood in front of me.

And I can see why people want to be first on planes. People often bring too much carry on baggage which seems to never be policed, so if you're late to the party you might have to put your bags behind where you're sitting by some distance, which is going to be a nuisance when its time to unboard the plane.

Actually fair point. Hot tip if you ever fly Tiger pay the extra fee (maybe $4) for priority access cause no one pays for it and no one pays for luggage, watched some poor campaigner have to fly to Sydney with his luggage on his lap.

It was the end of T4 and it was packed. Moving back would have been very difficult and cumbersome.

And whether people believe me or not I did say to the wife "Excuse me. I was in the wrong line". Why would she tell her husband he was being ridiculous if she thought I was at fault?

The last 3 times I've flown Jetstar, they've weighed my hand luggage on at least 1 of my legs. Luckily I always stick to my 7kg limit but so many people have been stung $55 or whatever the fee is and had to check it in.

Oh and up the shops yesterday had someone say g'day and have a chat, literally no idea who it was. I'm not great with names but nearly always remember a face, possibly the first time ever this has happened I reckon. She seemed nice, we bonded over the craziness of the late Sunday arvo mercy dash to the shops but no idea where I know her from. (She probably wanted the D obvs)
This happened to me at the races about a month ago - old mate starts up with 'hey mate - great to see you!'. My mind totally draws a blank. He is there with some old guy and he then pulls out 'This is Mr X - he is Andrew's dad!'. I am thinking to my self WTF is Andrew? I literally did not recognize the guy or his father. Neither looked like they wanted the D so there was no bonding

Cutting in, or jumping the queue as it's sometimes called.....it does create division and angst doesn't it.

Probably not comparable.....so I fly a particular airline internationally. I have a particular status with the airline which enables me to line up in a particular queue. Here in melbourne I line up in said queue. Prem economy and economy line up in another one. So the gate opens and we are shunted towards the ticket scanner accompanied by an airline worker. Instead of waiting for the queue in which I am in to exhaust, they open economys up so here's two queues entering at the same time, meaning say number 10 in economy gets in before number 10 in my queue.

whats the point then?

Yeah I like to get on early particularly for this reason.

There's always one knob who just whacks their bag anywhere because they don't actually understand how the luggage allocation works in relation to seating.
