What can schools do more of?

One time a teacher walked away so a mate and myself could teach our own lesson to some young punks who started getting mouthy to us for no reason.

'He's twice the size of you, what do you think would happen if I wasn't here to stop him?' He implored. The little smart arses still wouldn't let up. He turned around and told us not to so anything too silly, very quickly the mood changed...

I copped bulling for most of my schooling. Most of the time bullies got hit with a wet lettuce leaf. Hell my final year of primary school my only friend was an AM/FM radio. I was seen as some wierdo and no one wanted to be friends.
Given these days we know it can impact people why more doesn't get done at schooling level is beyond me.
My youngest got bullied in Year 12 by her "friends" - part of that included being excluded from going to the ball and leavers with them. It was truly one of the most heart breaking moments I've ever experienced and she still wears the scars from that period. Self confidence and self esteem took a major battering. To top it off One of the bullies won the "Christianship award" for that year - it's amazing how clever they are at pulling the wool over others eyes. It's been 7 years and I reckon if I saw one of them standing in the middle of the road.......

Girls are f***ing bitches, teenage boys are nowhere near sophisticated enough to engage in that sort of mental warfare.

Hate bullies and it shits me that they don't get called out but instead we need to learn why they are bullies
I think society excuses and enables bullying in an indirect way too without meaning too. By that I mean blaming the victim.. ie "he has poor social skills thats why he gets bullies" "dreses like a dork" etc etc.

Places less accountablilty on the bully when you blame the victim, basically tells them they can bully if they have a reason to bully someone than its ok.. Its a load of crap.

I think the worst I copped was years 5-6. The parents made the call that I should repeat year 5(was good call in hindsight) my so called friends decided a few weeks later to stop being friends. What was worse they acted like everyone else after that.
Im lucky there wasnt any of the cyber bullying and any real physical stuff.
High school the bullying more of the same just different nanes. Only difference I had friends who im still friends with.

The end result is you do tend to chuck in the towel on making friends and communicating with others and staying in your comfort zone because you automatically go negative as a default based on your experience in life.
To this day im not the most confident or talkative person on earth.

I got bullied throughout school. From primary to secondary.Tthe teachers don't give a shit if you are getting bullied or not, it's just extra paperwork for them. And they can't actually stop the bully from continuing to do it.

I copped a bit, but there were always others worse off. I feel for the kiddos with all the social media, and wotnot these days. At least home was an escape from that shit when I was at school, no longer is that the case. I think it's also why there has been an increased awareness of it with the grin, and bear it attitude no longer being seen as acceptable.

I know teachers cop a lot of flak for their inaction and it was well deserved pre social media platforms but it is difficult to control now when the bullying is also occurring on social media out side of school hours and add to this that a lot of the bullies are just those who join in and aren't even at the same school.

I don't know what the solution is tbh other than people having the courage and conviction to support those being bullied but they then open themselves up to the same treatment and that's enough to put most off doing the right thing

It's not just teachers- sometimes their hands are tied. Look more to the YLLs, POLs, even Principal if/when shit all is being done.

DYK- at my school it's a big deal to even give a student an after school detention?? You have to submit paper work/contact the parent etc etc. Back in my day (gets on high horse) if you ****ed up you got an after school, end of discussion.

If you're a bully you can become the most powerful man on earth.

Like in all seriousness, what is the point of being a quality person if Trump can become what he has become by being who he is?

Yep, so many occasions during high school I would of stood back, not saying or doing anything while someone was being unfairly picked on. I didn't really get bullied myself, nor actively participate in bullying, but i certainly didnt do anything to help others who were on the receiving end.

I was both bullied and a bully, but for some warped reason I always stuck up for other people if I saw them getting picked on...I tended to bully other girls who were in the 'popular' group, and I'd defend the weaklings. Weird.

I was never bullied that much at school because i had fast and sarcastic mouth however i did meet someone who was a dick to me in primary school and was going out with someone else who was also a dick in primary school so I ruined their date and spoiled Star Wars episode 7 for them.

Was quite petty but he was a campaigner so dont care.

Just off topic for a moment.

Was in a tourist area of southern california today. Amongst a tour group, where english is their second language. Standing by the car park when one of the group members summons her family who were some 50m away with hang signals and a piercing voice in their own language. Local person walks by as this happens and says to his mate "speaking ******* english.".

that shits me

It's the total lack of awareness that English is their second language and in most cases it's not a slight but just easier than trying to translate the conversation first especially if elderly people are within the group

Imagine being on holiday in Germany and being told to speak German all the time rather than English
