ABC still produces interesting content, like Jack Irish, the Code, Cleverman etc. They also have a great comedy channel.
What's glossed over in the debate about funding is how many journos, actors and writers get their start on the ABC.

I don't even know what that means.

Doctor Who is a terrible show (tellingly in the UK it airs at like 5.30pm Saturday against Premier League games) but ABC give it this great 7.30pm Sunday slot. Worse than that they make the rest of the corporation flog it relentlessly and pretend it means something.

News Breakfast on Friday mornings:

Virginia Trioli: "Well you've all been waiting for it and Doctor Who's baaaaaaaack on Sunday!"

Michael Rowland: "Oh, Virginia, I can't wait to see what the Doctor's been up to this week. Joining us this morning to talk about it is Mr Green Guide ****face."

It's mainly the current Affairs investigative journalism aspects the IPA, the LNP & Murdoch are after......Can't be having an independent check & balance on corporate & government corruption now can we.....They should be allowed to bribe our politicians at will.

I'm no fan, but Dr Who is still a big deal in the U.K. Don't let the Saturday night time slot fool you, that is inexplicably still a big night in the U.K. with some of its highest rating shows on that night.

Is there really that much of a difference between "TV" and Netflix/Stan/illegal torrents/whatever? Good luck streaming the Grand Final if Channel 7 decide not to film it. The TV networks were slow to the party but have apps and websites too so it's not like you need to pull out the Betamax to record the latest episode of My Master Block X Factor in Paradise.

A lot of people think they are fighting the good fight torrenting Game of Thrones instead of paying for Foxtel to get Showcase (HBO) but the show costs about $100m a season to produce and having the money to produce awesome film & TV still comes from being able to sell it to someone. There's trash on FTA TV, there's trash on Fox and there's trash on Netflix. Netflix is still in a honeymoon phase but they are growing and producing/acquiring more and more content. Inevitably they'll start to up prices to recoup costs and people will be complaining about them like they do other distribution companies.

Wearing hats inside/while eating.

Was out for lunch the other day, not a fancy place by any means, and an old, outdated, dinosaur of a woman was actually complaining to the bar staff about the amount of customers wearing hats/beanies inside and the “lack of respect” it displayed.

In what way? Personally I literally don’t even notice if someone’s wearing a hat or not, whether it’s inside or out.
If you wear something for other than its intended purpose, you're gonna look like a bit of a knob. A hat is for keeping the sun out of your eyes and protecting your head from the sun, it serves no function inside; just like sunglasses. It's very low on the list of things that bother me, but it does point to someone overly concerned with being 'on-trend'.

Fair enough - each to their own I suppose. I wear a hat or beanie pretty much all the time because I feel naked without something on my head. Can’t explain it, just the way I’ve always been wired. The very last thing in the world I’m concerned about is trends either - gave up trying to follow them in my teen years.

Having standards (hello fatties, the rude, and unkempt).

Since when did tatts on chicks become sexy? One word - skank.

Not giving a shit what other people think of you (hello Instagram generation).

Being polite. To get to a point when government agencies have pre-recorded messages asking people to treat staff with respect just goes to show how far Australia has devolved.

Being polite but calling people skanks. Okay then.

I am a chick that has tattoos. If you think I am a skank; good for you.
I'll have sex with as many guys as I want as many times as I want, whether I have tattoos or not.

In America you can buy GoT episodes in HD on itunes etc after they have aired on HBO, so if you can't get HBO or can't afford HBO you can still watch the show in a reasonable time frame
Foxtel paid extra so that this couldn't happen in Australia.
The issue is often there is either no legal option or no competition, we get screwed big time by Foxtel's model in this country.

Now that doesn't make illegal downloads right but it's been shown time and time again that if you give people a reasonably priced useful service they will pay, look at netflix and stan

if you treat your customers like shit and try to screw them, it will cost you more money than it will make eventually

Interesting, did not know about that distinction. From memory you can buy GoT on iTunes here (I vaguely recall a work mate telling me he got a whole series) but that could be only when the series has ended. You can get a Foxtel Now subscription for $15/month that would give access to Showcase but not a whole lot else. If it wasn't for Fox Sports I probably wouldn't bother to have it at all.

Foxtel like many Australian companies do treat their customers like shit, though.

In the US they can purchase the episode digitally once it has aired for the first time
so they can buy an itunes season pass for example
foxtel now doesn't work for everyone
its also forcing you to give your money to foxtel
foxtel now didn't exist a couple of years ago either

Foxtel pay extra to stop people accessing the content via other means then price gouge to make their money back.

Grammar.
Correct spelling.
Interesting discussions.
I found this and another that got my goat. Unless the ATAR scores are that dodgy? From a Real Estate ad online.

Why drive, when you have so many transport options at your doorstep. Wake up to a barrister made coffee from one of Rundle Streets speciality coffee shop hotspots before your morning meeting or stroll to university.

Spot the issue ;)

NO legal jobs in adelaide ?
Also the speciality should be specialty but thats minor compared to the barrister

Another ad had 'piece of mind renting'

What are things that used to matter to you?
When did they stop mattering and why?.

Atheism ...

I realised that most Atheists are commies/socialists/anti-free speech/anti-capitalism/pro-islam ... this occurred about 4 years ago (just before the rise of the SJW menace).
