Autopsy Things you learnt v Essendon.

1 : 3 games in and Rohan is allredy looking like he can be a real weapon down back come finals , his work off the ball with his defensive side was awesome again and once he gets his attacking/confidence game going it will be huge for the side , him rampe , shaw , mal running off hb.
2: hopefully Pyke continues tonight's form into the finals , we need him up and going ( contested marking looks to be coming back ).
3 : I seriously think some of our players don't trust the young guys when they come in for the first few games , the amount times membrey worked his ass off up and down the ground to get ignored was shit house , if it was goodes he would of had 20 + and 10 marks.
4 : jets must be frustrating to coach at times
5 : Reid needs to do more
6 : the ball still comes out of our forward 50 to easy

6. I dont know why were so stubborn to put somebody at Tippo feet to try and lock it in there! i mean you had a unfit Tippo and Goodes which allowed them to walk it out, hoping with Hanners back we can allow McVeigh and Jack more time inside 50 to apply defensive pressure similar to our round 8 game against Hawthorn.

1. Ditto all the McGlynn love
2. We have not improved forward 50 entries.....ffs there are other options
3. Our best beats everyone, less than our best still beats most

A perspective you don't really see on the telecast. His attack on the ball and movement to HFF for his first possession in AFL was exactly what we wanted from LJ.

1. If you roll up your work clothes and stuff them down your shirt, you look morbidly obese but still feel cold in 8 degrees+ wind chill. Might have to apply grease to my arms and legs and wrap myself in garbage bags next time. :D

2. Goodes is still effective. That is all.

3. Essendon are setting the foundations of a very good defensive unit. And we still worked through it all well. That's a positive. We're starting to play finals footy each week. It's ugly. But it's historically effective.

4. We look scary good on the rebound. Our short kicking game is a little scratchy under pressure, though. Something to keep working on.

I learned nothing about McGlynn, Parker and Joey. Simply a joy to see them in Red and white.

1. Being too gutless to call them drug cheating scum does not change the fact that they are
2. Every matchday thread someone bags Pyke (usually Punts) and someone mentions Derickx. Pyke is miles ahead of Derickx
3. Ryder and Carlisle won most one-on-one contests when they got them, but that was rarely. Our key defenders rely heavily on the midfield and coverage from a 3rd man up

I like point one

Kennedy finally went down late

Mcglynn and jetta further up the ground killed crumbing options at times and towers did nothing

when they started coming back I started to carry on and the drug cheat words starting coming out of my mouth

Paul Little will see you in court

2. Goodes is still effective. That is all.

I found myself wanting to see a foot race between Goodes, Fletcher and Chapman.

There was one incident where Joey?? waltzed around Chapman on the sideline like he wasn't even there. That is all. ;)

But get the ball into Goodes' and Chappy's hands and they can still produce big time.

We don't have him in the side to sprint. But as a marking option, he presented well on the wings. And remains a genuine target up forward. If he was just standing in the goal square I'd be worried. But the fact that he's still working out to the wings and even the defensive 50 when Reid was off the ground is good.

The structural issues we have are to minimise the necessity of him to chase from the fwd 50. And I think we did much better at that last night.

Goodes still has some burst speed though. More than enough to break a line.

1. Razor Ray does seem to hate Essendon more than us
2. We can still shut down outside run (not so good last week)
3. Coaches found ideal roles for Goodes and Rowan

1. If opposition clubs are smart, they'll try to exploit Goodes more and more rebounding out of defence. He can still apply decent pressure in short confines and over short distances, but he just isn't able to chase for long distances at the moment.
2. We may have seen the short-medium term future in defence last night with Grundy taking the best forward and Ted transitioning into more of a 3rd man up/Darren Glass/Dustin Fletcher role, which he played expertly.
3. Craig Bird is quietly becoming a tremendous inside midfielder. His little modes of finding space and avoiding tacklers are so valuable. Kennedy is big and strong enough that he doesn't need to bother trying to avoid players, he'll just break out of tackles and get his hands free. Bird isn't that strong but he'll dodge and weave, sidestep and baulk his way through traffic to get the ball out. We really have to re-sign this guy.

1.We need to win it for McGlynn. He has given more than 100% in EVERY game, win, lose, rain, hail shine. The guy would perform during a nuclear holocaust.
2. Buddy adds so much x factor to our team, makes us a much more dangerous team
3. We don't want to lose Mal
4. Goodes is class
5. Towers needs more development, I'm not sure he'll make it at AFL level tbh
6. Parker, he needs to end his career in the red & white
7. Love to see Hanners back sooner rather than later

Teddy had a great quote after the game. It went something like, "People make far too much of 6 das breaks. Truth is if you're struggling to cope with a 6 day break in this day and age it probably means you're just having a bad year. No excuses." :thumbsu:

A 6 day break after a bye as well. I mean come on, are these guys professional sportsmen or what?

Yeah. Was just paraphrasing him. He didn't say "no excuses" I just put the quotation marks in the wrong spot. But I think Teddy is bang on. If as a team you allow the idea of the short break to play on your mind, you're losing the battle before the game even starts. Same thing with travel. If you let that stuff niggle at your confidence you'll never win a game as an interstate club.

That is because their first 3 steps are as slow as treacle unfortunately so midfield pressure on the kicker is imperative. All things being equal though you will not get 2 better competitors than Richards & Grundy. Both Warriors.

1. Ray is the worst umpire out there, any game involving him will have some of the most horrible decisions you'll see. Not particularly favouring any individual team, just any pathetic call he can make to get his face on tv. The best umpires go un-noticed and some of the others aren't as bad as fans would have you believe, some common sense please from the AFL, do not let this man anywhere near the 2014 grand final.

2. Our goal kicking just seems to get worse, not a lot of conviction or authority from any of the players when they go back to take a set shot, (Not like when Barry Hall or Nick Davis went back and you could bank on them kicking it a hell of a lot more than they missed). This area (besides a bad injury run) is really our biggest Achilles heel.

3. McGlynn is going to be very unlucky on B&F night, probably going to just miss out on a top 3 position. His attack on the ball alone would make him a worthy top 3 finisher, let alone he's backing it up with some extremely good run and carry and kicking plenty of handy goals too.

If we make it to the GF i fear McGlynn is going to kill himself in the first quarter, what are we ranked for goalkicking accuracy? must be bottom 4.

I saw Grundy win or halve quite a few one on ones with Carlisle. I thought he was superb and he only lost contests when the Essendon midfield had uninterrupted flow through the middle and delivered inside 50.

Ted was beaten a few times one on one by Ryder (as he seems to almost every time we play Essendon, he seems to kick multiple goals against us often) but then played the 3rd man up/intercepting role perfectly for much of the game.
