I see he has subsequently edited his post to clarify that he didn't mean he thought Goodes shouldn't be playing. Maybe the original statement was a little denigrating to Goodes but no harm was intended. Play on!

what now? i was just mucking round about the whole mis understanding

thats why im a nominee for greatest poster of all time and you are just a mod :P

Might have already been said but the mids need to look for other options inside 50, on more than a handful of occasions Membrey, Towers and a few other players were free on the lead around 40 out and we bombed it long to a double teamed Tippett. We need to start hitting these guys up to keep our forward line unpredictable. Good sides will recognise the pattern of the long bomb and get numbers over to spoil.

it wouldnt be so bad if we also got numbers to the fall of the ball so if they have three men up we have two down. the problem is that we are instructed to lead away from tippett to give him space one on one and the opponents to our players know they can drop off and head back towards tippett.

i am sure when you are under pressure you just want to hit the ball as long as you can to the hot spot, and that is probably even more on a cold windy night, but if that is the case then horse and the forwards coach has just got to change the players and the structure at the goal square etc. as it is we are playing like we have the past few years and when we got beat by the pies at the beginning of the year that we become completely one dimensional.

i am sure a major factor to this is also how badly we are getting beaten at stoppages and in the midfield so that when we do get it there is a perceived pressure to get the ball as far away from the defensive area as possible. each element feeds into each other but personally i would really like it if we start getting into the habit that they just move one player (and I dont know who it is and maybe that is the problem since neither bird nor parker are quick enough (actually jack would be my choice) and you wouldnt want to lose jack or mcveigh or mcglynn from near the ball) such as jack to tippett. he would need someone sharpish on their feet to play on him and they would be really concerned about going third man up.

Must have looked different on TV but I thought McVeigh was very good ( first quarter was awesome to getting us off to a good start ), his hands in close really stood out to me and it was good to see in rotation in centre bounces , still uses it well and there are not to many more I would rather with ball in hand on our list.
Might get cheapies around the back but they give it to him for a reason

No doubt he's a beautiful kick so I've got no problem with him getting quick handballs from teammates when he's in space but there were a couple of times on Friday night where he called for it without any real advantage. One instance mentioned by melbournehammer below and another where Bird marked outside 50 and McVeigh demanded the handpass out the back only to kick it to nobody in the pocket. Surely it was better off in Bird's hands until a sensible option opened up.

I understand and appreciate his role in the team, but sometimes he needs to realise that despite his superior disposal, the balls not always better off in his hands.

So we have one captain who is an exceptional field kick but is a hog and the other captain who cannot hit a target to save himself.

Agree, besides the more he has the ball the less he can point and yell at everyone else

Jack wont even shoot for goal on his wrong side, will turn intro trouble, he isnt alone, surprising how many afl players are one sided

I guess it depends how good you are on your preferred side, and on how proficient your balance was at the time of drafting. In Jack's case his late start to footy probably doesn't help.

Do players do much training on their non-dominant sides under match conditions? Seems they prefer to kick trick shots on the outside of their feet around the goals.

all i know is 10 seconds to go in the grand final need a goal to win jack has the ball 20 out from goal on his wrong side and needs to shoot, what will he do ? pass it off?
