I can't believe what has just happened...

Its 2:30 am, and im still awake, expecting to watch a good match (im on school holidays)

After all this crap with the crowd, there has just been missiles thrown on the field, and firecrackers let off in the stands..

My question is, will they play their ODI final, or could this even happen at the Ashes?

May as well play on a deserted field.

What's the word over there London Dave? The plastic fence idea was a bit of a farce. Will we be playing the final in an empty stadium? Maybe they should only let Aussie and Pommy fans in....

Of course the plastic fence is a farce.
The pommy authorities couldnt organze the proverbial piss up in a brewery.

It was said they were cracking down on drunkenness, which is brilliant cos as the Pakistan fans were causing the vast majority of the problems, and being good muslims, don't drink!
It took the deaths of 96 people to drag football into the 20th century, and it will probably take a death or serious injury before anything serious gets done. Lets not forget, they have had AT LEAST two years since WC99 to get their faeces together on this, and have not done THING ONE.

Everyone, meaning the alleged authorities, seem to be blaming someone else, which is no suprise to me. A bigger bunch of buck passers I have yet to meet.

The cops should do what they do in Oz, just get into the crowd and rip out a few of these ****heads after videoing their moronic behaviour, but they'd end up playing the racist card no doubt. I heard the head of the ECB interviewed on radio, and this guy was so lacking in balls he wouldnt agree that the main cause of the problem was Pakistani fans. (I see Aussie and English fans have diguised themselves in Pakistani flags to besmirch the good name of Pakistan cricket.) Lord MaClaurin or whatever you poncy name is, you are a wimpish goose IMHO!

I saw an on field riot at the India v Pakistan U15 or U16 world cup final a few years back at Lords. The cops and stewards formed a line in front of the members to 'protect the members from being invaded', while the 'fans' beat the crap out of each other on the ground. Yup, all this at a game of Junior Cricket!

Finally, Oz fans might recall the riots in Guyana and Barbados a year or two back. The holier than thous here were saying games should be taken from there. I spose that means Edgbaston and Trent Bridge are off the list too now!

Anyway, I'm rambling, its lunchtime and there a cold pint of Guinness waiting for me at the Running Footman!

and the final will be well worth watching for two reasons....

1. the Pakistani fans will make d!ckheads of themselves again, and

2. Their team will get totally stuffed!

In the paper over here today S. Waugh was saying that he will take his team off again if the Pakis keep up there crap. And fair enough too - and I don't think he should come back onto the ground either. No need to risk anyone before the Ashes starts.

Why can't the coppers throw out people who are misbehaving? We could see easily who hey were on tele the other night, why can't the police do more? They have reported over here that there is some obscure law that prohibits the cops from chucking them out or something.....

Who cares if they are labelled racists? If the Pakis would behave then there would not be a problem in the first place. Australia have been playing England over there for 130 years and there has never been any problems.

Anyway, tonights game should be good. The poms usually play OK when the pressures off!

Mate everyone in this country is scared sh1tless of doing anything that is perceived as being racist, the do gooder liberal brigade have taken over & common sense has been flung out of the window. These in your face Pakistani supporters have no respect for England they hate it & don't mind showing that they hate it.
This is the only country in the world where it is deemed racist to fly our own flag-seriously there's some councils that won't let people show the Union Jack as they think it is offensive to people of different races-hows that huh?

It all sounds bloody crazy to me. UK has state of the art surveillance watching all the soccer games for "hooligans" yet we have to cop this crap at the cricket games - sounds like they should share some of this soccer fan monitoring technology with the cricket boys.

The troublemakers, apart from ruining the game, are also bringing their background into disrepute.

Yeah. Like 2 years ago at the MCG when the Indian crowd stopped the play for 20 minutes by throwing thousands of plastic bottles etc over the fence.

The police came out the next day saying words to the effect of "drunken behaviour will NOT be tolerated. We're sick and tired of hooligans ruining the cricket for everybody."

And the best line was:

"We were very close to a fight between Indian & Australian fans".

lol

When in actual fact, the Australians were throwing their bottles over to the Indians who were catching them and throwing them over the fence.

I went to 2 games last year at the 'G and saw maybe 100 people get booted out. Of those 100, i would guess that 95 were thrown out for punching beach balls around and the other 5 were thrown out for splashing water on each other. A very dangerous thing apparently in 45c heat........

The authorities have never had a clue. I couldn't believe when they said that a bunch of 80 year olds holding up an orange plastic fence was going to stop a pitch invasion. Yeah right. Perhaps it might have worked if it was a group of trouble making 75 year olds who just happened to be scared of a gang of 80 year olds holding up orange plastic fences.

Human stupidity prevails once again.

What made it even more funnier was when they were holding it up when someone scored a 4 all the pakis where throwing snaps at them, if i was in England and an official i would let the dogs run loose as they have in Bangledesh and that will sort out these stupid paki pricks who think they run the joint. Im sick and tired of them fuking up everything and dont forget its only cricket and they act as if it live and death, well i geuss there would be nothing else to do in Pakistan.

Some countries do consider their sport to be life and death. It gives them a sense of importance on the national scene. Your statements are borderline racist, plus why don't you learn to spell?

That's not racist SLH, it's reality. It's not cricket followers who are causing the problems....it's a bad element within the Pakistani fans. Maybe Top Dog went a bit over the top, but I think we all need to point the finger when it is called for and not have all this politically-correct nonsense. Australia have been playing cricket for 120 years and we have never had any of these sort of problems. We may have had some drunken guys in the outer, or a fraccas amongst the crowd every now and then, but they have never put the player's health in danger as have these PAKISTANI supporters....

The 'Balmy Army' has been very vocal at some of the games over here recently but the relationship between them and the Aussie crowd has always been good-humoured and never affected the players at all. These Pakistani 'supporters' are going out of their way to injure opposition players.

I might have said in another post
"There but for the grace of God go I"

briedis, we have had those problems.

thats why we have the laws in place now.

check out what happened at the SCG Ashes test in 1971.

I will post a longer spiel on this when i get home from work

HMMMMM,, the John Snow incident I seem to recall,, although not life threatening,, not great security either,, albeit 30 years ago.

Not sure DIPPER if that was the reason they got rid of the hill at the SCG but its not like that at all grounds.
At beautiful Adelaide OVal people can enjoy the best of 3 worlds, sitting or standing on a choice of 2 large hills, sitting in a grandstand or sitting outdoors away from the hill.
Surely one of the nicest grounds to watch and play cricket.
