Anyone got any reccomendations where I should travel to? I am looking to go next month, have 5 figures to spend and looking to go for 3-4 weeks, any ideas? And why?

What were the 1st 2 places you wanted to go to???????

Then ask yourself what is it I want from the trip, eg; adventure, culture, religion, girls, girls, girls, ohhh sorry I started to remember the good old days...

Age & maturity is a major factor in the ability to take advantage of situations, traveling to USA in my mid 20's (rather than early 20's was a plus). Then going over there in early 30's ( especially in to the southern states) that was the absolute best... Experience is everything.....

Sweet cheers! Anyone been to Europe? South America?

Europe is the best place Ive been to - partly because of the many and highly differing cultures and environments within close proximity to each other, and aso the ease/cheapness of travel. However if you go next month it will be in the heart of Winter so particularly places like Greece and Spain which are my favourites - will not be nearly as nice. If you can wait until June/July it would be worth it. Check these out..

I also highly recommend Thailand as an amazing country - Bangkok for food, shopping, markets, girls - go north for a jungle trek then south to the islands. Its much cheaper too. There are plenty of tours around for Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand that would be awsome.

I went to Germany, Holland and Belgium. I was like 5 though and it was to visit family. I vividly remember that bicycles were more prevalant than cars. Sorry I can't help more though.

Also went to Egypt to visit family and I do remember much of it. Pyramids were ace and Alexandria is an awesome city. I intend on visiting again at some point in the future.

Have you considered going through Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway? I haven't been there, but the railway in seminal for Russia, and the biggest railway in the world.

Egypt is something I will probably do, in a few years not now. Need a bit more travel experience and dollars in the bank., prior to doing that.

I've been to central america. it was awesome

Yeah? Where abouts? When? What did you do?

Lived in England at one point, but I was too young to really remember it...

Oh thats a shame, England could be on the itinerary.

Not sure about the 2 places, always wanted to do the Inca stuff and Easter island, but Easter Island has limited options after the Maoi (Big Heads) so may not be worth it....

But really not sure, I was going to go with a mate but he went early on me a couple of months ago, due to his work not lettting him off this time of year :( ..He went Europe-ing so I might just do that. But know idea what to do or where to start.

I recon I will do Nth America in a few also, my brothers girlfriend is from Washington State (Not DC) and I will bother her a bit about what and where to go.

Wasn't planning on Greece, more like France, Italy, any where with statuesque blondes after those two. Those sites look very handy I will make note of those. You are a bloody champion for that! The cold doesn't bother me as I live is Hobart..well 25kms south..and it gets pretty cold, snows a fair bit, not at RL ..I mean Sea level though.

Thanks for all the input very helpful.

Yeah? Where abouts? When? What did you do?

I went to Nicaragua (one week) and Costa Rica (three weeks)

Nicaragua, went to Omotepe island, climbed the volcanoes, did some canoeing and relaxed a lot

Costa Rica, went and worked on a farm for a few days, helped out the local school and played a heap of soccer. trecked the corcovado national park for a week, camped out on the beach every night. saw giant ant eaters, tapirs, crocodiles, tucans and a puma.

climbed mt Chirripo, went surfing at Domincal, got really drunk in San Jose - went to the soccer final and went white water rafting

I recommend it

As for where to travel, I went to Europe (London, Lisbon, Milan, Rome, Prague) and I'd highly recommend it. Once you get over there, it's very cheap to go from country to country. Don't be fooled into thinking trains will be cheaper, go via air. The trains are also much less reliable.

Rome was obviously good but it's a bit like Disneyland. Some of the attractions are amazing but you don't get a feel for much culture as the whole place is littered with tourists.

Milan has no culture. It's just a hussle and bussle commercial hub. Many people live in Rome but fly to Milan to work during the day (reaffirming that airfares are cheap). I only went there for 2 days because I wanted to see Inter Milan play (which was very good). Shopping is good too but obviously expensive. There are still affordable things though. I paid a couple of hundred for a jacket which is about what you'd pay here to get something of the same quality.

Lisbon is fantastic. It has less tourists than Spain but the same amount of culture and icons. It really is a beautiful city. Check out the Tower (de Belom) for some fantastic views, including that of Lisbon's Christ the Redeemer (it looks better than the Rio version anyway :p)

London is superb and has heaps of stuff to do obviously. You'll feel like home there compared to other places. I recommend going to a soccer match, even if you aren't a huge fan. It's as much of a cultural activity as anything else. Try going to a small venue like I did (Fulham's Cottage) and soak up the atmosphere.

Prague is good too. I didn't go crazy with the nightclubs as others (one that I did go to was about 80% male but apparently wasn't a gay club). Go to the medieval torture museum there. Tis awesome (I can show pictures if people desire although the descriptions and sound effects are sometimes better than the photos).

This bloke looks like a thumb!...

Back to travel I am planning to go to the 2012 African Cup in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea. Anyone interested?

Apparently Gabon is very nice. Equatorial Guinea not so much...

Also going to swing through Accra, Dakar, Bujumbura (Burundi, the new party capital of Africa!) and maybe a couple of others.

If you go to cricket.com.au you can now watch live streaming of the Sheffield Shield video. They pretty much show what the scoreboard at the ground shows (including live video). There isn't commentary but the video quality is acceptable and there isn't much lag. Check it out. I watched a bit of the final session of vics vs redbacks yesterday.

When is the African Cup? Hopefully not in September! We'll be hitting our straps by then :D

It's in either January or February. WIN WIN WIN. **** the NAB Cup.
