As you all know Dan24 has a penchant for tracking down my posts, replying to them repeatedly, then abusing me when I dont come around to agreeing with his opinions....

Well far be it from me to enlighten you guys, because I Know my Opinions are not shared by all, ....but

The question posed was in the Magpies...Collingwood or Port Adelaide post..


I posed a question ...If Beijing, Hanoi, Los An geles, New York, Singapore, London ,Paris ,Berlin, Tokyo, joined the AFL next season and it was renamed the
World League Port, Collingwood, Fremantle Richmond and a few others dropped out

Essendon wins the world league title in 2002, How many times has Essendon been World Champions ?

Dans answer........................... 17

Because.................................... its not a world league, its the VFL since 1897,its the same comp all we are doing is renaming the titles to coincide with the name change of the same suburban league , played in Melbournes suburbs in 1897...

And so its easier to understand we will call them World league premierships, so as not confuse anyone.


..........No different to calling VFL titles AFL titles.........

I'd reckon that it would be true that Essendon were WFL(or whatever the hell they'd call it) champions 17 times, because it was the same league. I'd reckon it would be a bit of a far stretch saying "World champions" 17 times, because in the past it hadn't been against the rest of the world. In that way, I'd say Essendon have been afl premiers 16 times, but they haven't been national champions 16 times. I'd imagine that was what Dan would say also, although I can't know can I.

The league PA1870 mentions would be different enough from the current one to suggest that it be treated as such. The Dons would have won once. That doesn't prove anything, however, in relation to the VFL/AFL argument.

one of the earliest days of afl can be tracked back to the south west of WA, first recorded league of it, even before the vics, over 150 years ago

What Dan said was that Essendon had won the competition that is now called the "World League" 17 times.
