Okay, picture this.

The day is Monday, if I was due to play cricket on Saturday, I would say I have cricket 'this weekend', if I was then due to play cricket the Saturday after, I would say 'I also have cricket next weekend'

Actualy more info was better because he clarified that "this week" begins on a monday, with BomberGals example on a Sunday you could say next weekend to mean the weekend in 2 weeks time.

If it's a Saturday or Sunday then 'this weekend' is the current weekend and 'next weekend' is the one in five/six days time. If it's Monday through Friday then 'this weekend' is the one coming up and 'next weekend' is the one after.

If its the weekend coming up then I just say 'on the weekend' or 'this weekend'.

It depends when the statement is said.

If the user says next weekend and it is Monday, then usually they mean the weekend in 4-5days time not the weekend in 10 or so days time.

This weekend always means the immediate weekend however.

Does next weekend mean this weekend coming OR the following weekend? I reckon this weekend means the weekend looming and next weekend means the following weekend, i thought everyone knew this, but alas some people don't.

Next week means the week after this week so next weekend mean the weekend after the coming weekend...

I know someone who has a few problems with this and makes appointments and their clients think its the following week

But I've always thought this weekend means the upcoming weekend from Monday afterwards, Next weekend the following weekend
