Not even Hudson, Lockett and Dunstall managed that in a final series.
Coleman managed it once.

I think Ablett is the only player to manage 15+ goals in a finals series on three separate occasions.
So does this means you agree? 15+ would be great. If Sydney keep winning they will get 4 games. The above stars never played 4 finals in one year.
Ablett's 27 goals in 4 finals in 89 is unbelievable.

It would be pretty special to see him take a team (not that Sydney aren't littered with gun footballers) off his own individual brilliance from 5th to a flag. If anyone can do it, it's him. He'd certainly make a hell of a spectacle of it.

15 goals is a big ask.
I think he will do it and cement his place as one the games very best players we have seen.
I hope so anyway. He's really the only player left who transcends the game.

Irrespective of how he and his team perform during the Finals (hopefully more than one!), Buddwah's position in the history of the game is assured.

From the time he started playing for the Hawks I was riveted by his unique talents. Throughout his career I have watched wide eyed at some of the things he has done - often I am just left laughing at the audacity.

Beyond his improbable goal kicking, he has always been a team guy. This has often been expressed through pack busting, knock ons and stunning field kicking. This year one of his tracer 40 metre passes nearly killed the Bloods' little Ollie Florent (the kid held it to his credit).

I am of course delighted he now plays for my mob. However, irrespective of who he played for, I would always look forward to watching any game he played in. I suspect most fans whatever our allegiances, feel the same.

He is a long way short of GASnr, but so is everyone else.

If anyone had plenty of chances, its him

Gunston did 3-4-3 in 2013, 3-2-3 in 2014 and 1---4 in 2015 (missing 2 and a bit finals)

Would have been described as a solid contributor but not the 'talent' that buddy is

You dont need huge numbers

The real point is because everyone says "THIS year buddy will light up the finals" actually means he hasn't for quite a while, and the status is likely to quo

Buddy is already sitting equal 5th of all time for goals in finals. Fair to say he's already delivered on the big stage. 8 goals will see him 4th, 10 3rd. He is 13 behind Dunstall in 2nd, which he could reach this year, though next year (if Sydney make it) would be more likely.

Buddy is always going to get 6 or more shots on goal in a match. It is just whether or not he has his super accurate days or his super inaccurate days. No one knows until he is actually playing. Carlton Buddy just could not miss, but I remember a few games where Buddy could not kick straight for all the tea in China.

Buddy's goals per game average in finals matches is equal to his H&A record, so it's not really like he's ever "underperformed" on the whole in finals, despite the implication that he's not a great finals performer, and that goals "dry up" for forwards in the finals.

Peter Sumich.

1990: 4, 4, 4, 2 (14.15)
1991: 3, 3, 6, 5 (17.11)
1992: 4, 8, 6 (18.8)

Missed it by that much.

It's pretty rare for a key forward to have a similar/equal goal-per-game average in H&A and finals, surely?

Grand finals are the big games. Buddy has played in a lot of them:
2008 - was pretty quiet. Still kicked 2 and had 3 goal assists (from memory)
2012 - was huge, 24 touches and kicked 3 goals 4. Could have won it for us with a 4 or 5 goal haul. We played through him far too often though.
2013 - seemed pretty quiet. We didn't play through him at all. He played up the ground. Still managed to get the footy 18 times. Only one goal.
2014 - Kicked 4 goals in a losing team that got thumped. Awesome effort.
2016 - 16 touches. Didn't hit the scoreboard really (1.1). 7 tackles though which is a huge effort.

Overall he has done extremely well.

Pretty sure he's already underlined it enough, just hoping the three words Buddy, Essendon and Final go together as I hope it will.

Ablett's 27 goals in 4 finals in 89 is unbelievable.
Ablett himself would never kick 27 in this era, the game has changed way too much. Team oriented, better coaching, clogged forward lines ... heck we started Scott Maginness on Ablett in the 89 GF for some dumb reason and he went 1 on 1 for most of the game.

I remember when Buddy kicked 8 against the Bulldogs in his century year that felt like he was gonna dominate the whole thing, then kicked 3 in the next two games largely because he was carrying an injured hand that got surgery immediately when the season ended. Was probably never gonna kick 15+ with Lake, Hudghton and Scarlett who were all hacking away at him (Lake did well on him too, Dale Morris started on Buddy and he kicked 6 or 7 on him). Modern finals are a different beast.
