Buddy has got over 20 disposals and 3 goals twice in finals
Carey has done that 8 times as well as hauls of 4+goals 6 times and 10+marks 9 times.

Buddy has a bit to catch up on - he'll never get to those marking numbers though.

Can you post goals and games played in finals?
You do realise Bud has hauls of 8 and 7 in finals yeah?

If we just look at the big one - grand finals, Buddy is miles ahead.

It's pretty rare for a key forward to have a similar/equal goal-per-game average in H&A and finals, surely?
Yeah, for sure, but Buddy is a rare bird. Genuinely one of the greatest of all time.

Total - 3.18 goals per game (856 goals in 269 games)
H&A - 3.19 goals per game (791 goals in 248 games), including 62 bags of 5+
Finals - 3.10 goals per game (65 goals in 21 games), including 3 bags of 5+

Buddy has kicked 4+ goals in a final 8 times already...

Carey also averaged 2.61 goals per game in finals (60 goals in 23 finals matches), slightly less than his H&A record (2.68 goals per game, 667 goals in 249 games), and less than Buddy, in an era geared towards targeting the main forward more, with a gameplan centred around him.

Goals were easier to get for key forwards 20 years ago.

The era was played so full forwards would kick more goals yes, but longmire or mckernan were playing the deep forward role. You don't hear comparisons between carey and dunstall or plugger because CHF it was a completely different position.

buddy doesn't have the same ability as carey to impose himself on the game and drag his team over the line, hence i showed the stats of disposals and marks - i doubt many posters now watched full games from the 90's and thus understand his ability to do this. you go look at his finals stats, their monstrous with disposals, marks and goals, buddy's is just goals, there aren't many games with 20+ disposals and 10+ marks.

You could also easily argue that buddy has had superior teams delivering the ball to him and is going to have a much longer career due to much improved medical facilities these days (struggled to lift his left arm above his shoulder after his '97 reco), carey has played the same number of finals but his last few weren't high quality.

Carey dragged an ok north Melbourne side to 2 flags. Buddy happened bro be part of a great hawthorn side (who didn't need him in the end) and is part of an already very very good Sydney which hasn't won a flag since he went there.

Carey by a long way. Not to say Franklin isn't a great player though.

Buddy kicked a century and won a premiership against the 'greatest team of all time'. Been there, done that. Don't act as if North was 100% Carey it just ain't true, he was a forward that never won a Coleman, so I'm amazed he won 2 flags on his own.
