Don't Melbourne have a priority pick which takes place before the draft starts having won less than 10 games in 2 years??
Nah, they have a priority pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds.

As a consequence, several changes were made to the rules in 2006:

* The Priority Round was shifted, so that it was held between the First and Second rounds of the draft.
* Teams would receive a Priority Selection only if they finished the season with fewer than 16.5 premiership points.
* If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_draft_pick

They finished on 20 points last year.

Would definitely be on the radar; but I'd be surprised if he was still available by the time it was our call.
Why? He should be available at our pick. Will probably go between pick 15 and Ports first pick (assuming we don't select him).

There will be multiple very good key position players at our pick.

I think the rule is they have to finish with less than 4.5 wins each year not combined over 2 years. Last year they had 5 wins and didnt qualify for a priority pick.

Schoenmakers does not look 195cm to me, but he definitely looks taller than 189cm. I would've put him on about 192cm personally. We'll find out for sure come Draft Camp. :)

TAC Cup players are all tested under the same circumstances on a league wide fitness testing day at the start of the season, so I find Vic players heights to be pretty accurate. I'm not sure how all the other states do their testing, but I presume it would be all in house, so you'd expect a bit of inaccuracy.

I'm on Sidebottom. Plenty of class and toughness, plus he could realistically be there by our first pick. I expect him to be, actually. Forget Ziebell and Hartlett. They should be long gone. Right now I rate Hartlett #3 on my list ahead of Naitanui and Hurley. It's all bound to change though.

Finally we need a general down back, Bock is handy but a player slightly smaller around 190 to be a tough general down back, good hands and leap.

I'd like us to try Sellar at CHB and release Bock to take over Basset's role, whenever Bock is playing on a quality CHF like Cloke we miss his drive and rebound. By giving him the third or fourth oppostion forward he could be alot more creative and damaging.

Don't get me wrong I really appreciate your input on this forum - but why is Hartlett rated so highly? He's played league for West without making a huge impression and from what I've read was tagged out of the U18 championships pretty well. Is he living on U16 reputation or am I missing something?

Have a look at Broken Hill Lad playing at North Adelaide ressies...played NSW state and has had Power, Saints, and Freo request nominations for draft and interest shown from Brisbane and Geelong.
Similar build to D mac and plays the same way...very interesting !

He is one of the smoothest movers and best kicks. The kid has amazing composure and understands footy very well. He has class all over him. His two games in Melbourne at the Championships were magnificent. :)

Mitch Clisby?

If so, I like him. Linked up really well with Kade Klemke rebounding out of defence for NSW. I rate Clisby only behind Klemke, Reed and Ediriwickrama from that NSW team and reckon he's a decent chance to get picked up.

I think this is worth considering if we can get him working hard, how quick is he?? At about 196 cm he is perfect to take on this role and then release to forward.

The club needs to think about Rutten, i actually think with some more development Sellar could be just as effective as Rutten looks very slow these days. Hopefully the club plays Kite early next year to develop a Bassett replacement

and in the meantime the CHF kicks 8

Sellar would get slaughted at CHB

Bock is all AA CHB lets leave him there, we have other players that can provide additional run from HB

Bock at CHB, Kite to HB

what about rhys okeefe in the second round could he be groomed into that general role down back ala hodge or is he strictly a running hbf player

We've taken 'punts' on Angwin, Sellar, Watts, Carey and it doesnt seem to be working.

Besides having top 5 draft picks, pulling gun KPPs out of left field (i.e father-son) seems to be the way to go, and hopefully Walker is our gun 'out of left field' selection. :p

Nice try :p

I'm personally holding out for Sidebottom, but I'd really like us to take a punt on a KPP for our second-rounder. Assuming a decent one is still available.

Hey, it would be an extremely bold thing for the Crows to do, in trading Rutten. And a way we could potentially get a gun mid or better draft picks.

Not saying the club should do it, or whether it would be possible in reality, but its the kind of thing that would need to be done if we were going to attract a gun player in a trade.

Adding Petrenko to that half back line will definitely add some run from the back. I am not sure who he would replace a the moment though.

What pick are going to recieve from Port for Johncock?

Yeah it is Mitch Clisby (#34) for sure. I actually saw him play yesterday. Played off half back. He really enjoys hitting top gear when the footy is in his hands, has some good top end speed. His disposal by foot really lets him down on occasions though (he kicked a few scrubbers along the ground, I think he drop may need some refining). Very confident player from what I have heard. Could be a late ND pick or rookie list.

Kicked an absolute gem of a left footed goal from the left pocket yesterday. Great size, disposal, class. Would be a handy 2-3rd selection depending on who we take in the 1st round. Impressive.

i honestly think he is off to them, I hope i am wrong but we would definately get a first rounder for Johncock though.

Not from Port you wont

Port's 1st round pick is selection number 4

There is no way in hell that pick would be traded for Johncock

Are you saying Port will trade someone, to another club, for another 1st round selection?

Even if we did, if it was up to me, I still wouldn't use any 1st round selection to secure Johncock.

Johncock is worth a first round pick, but theres no way in hell we are going to get one for him. (Especially from Port, i'd think 38 is the first pick they'd consider tradeable)

You'd get a first round pick for Stiffy, but probably in the region of 8-12, definitely not top 4.
