have we got 9th or 10th? Didn't we lose to Collingwood who came 8th? I've seen a few variations around the place.

We definetely have pick 10 because we finished 7th.. We finished 7th instead of 8th because the Kangaroos also lost in the first week like us, however they were originally ranked lower than us at the start of the finals.

Not entirely sure it works that way, as in '05 we were minor premiers and yet finished 4th behind the Saints when we were knocked out in the prelim, or did the fact that they had the week off factor into it as well. Capel from the Advertiser definitely quoted us as having pick 9.

Capel is wrong. We have pick #10. Collingwood have pick #11 and Sydney pick #12.

In 2005 we finished minor premiers, but lost to the Saints in the first week of the finals. Thus they were the higher ranked team going into the preliminary finals and we finished 4th when both of us were eliminated.

If Sydney had lost that game, having lost to West Coast in the qualifying final, then we would have finished 3rd and they would have finished 4th.

Since when has the Advertiser been a more reliable football resource than our BF boards. :D

Even the AFL website was confused for a while this morning. They have this article, which lists the top 12 draft picks.

They've since corrected it, but this morning the text stated that the Crows had pick #10 (correct), while the list at the bottom gave us pick #12 (wrong).

I'm happy our pick is ahead of Collingwood's.

And I bet if someone like a Chris Yarran is available with their first selection, Collingwood will select him. MM loves the kids with a bit of X-Factor about them.

Dale Thomas
Leon Davis
Alan Didak
Paul Medhurst

That's what makes the Pies dangerous, when their up and about, their tops, chasing, flair, doing the impossibale.

But Thomas, Medhurst (not so much anymore, but still there) and Davis (gotten better at it) are front runners and go quiet when the team is down, also don't chase as much and put the defensive pressure on.

So you see the whollop Geelong and you see them loose to Freo.

Just some players I would like to see in the Adelaide colours:

The obvious ones...
Hamish Hartlett
Jack Ziebell
Steele Sidebottom
Not completly keen:
Jackson Trengove
Nick Suban
Mitch Robinson
Chris Yarran
Shaun McKernan
Nick Heyne

Later in the draft:
Here i'll just say some that we havent really talked about.. eg. we have talked about Shoenmakers and Chris Hall and not much about Mitch Banner..
So here are some I suggest:
Mitch Banner
Neville Jetta - Cyril Rioli type player..
Aaron Cornelius
Tom Rockliff
David Zaharakis: Very Keen about him

Hey Hey .... .....didn't you just post a page back that you WERE KEEN on Trengove .....now now who's confused :p

Not a fan of Mitch Banner at all. I'm not sold on Cornelius either.

NC would like Suban. Tough as boots.

Nor am I .....reminds me so much of Simon Minton-Connell

Thinks he's a bit slow for a position other than KP and the frame looks unlikely to fillout sufficiently to play KP

Craig does not like slowish players like Suban who are also undersize

Im not a huge fan of Mitch Banner until it gets into the 3rd rounds. I wouldnt like to waste our 2nd rounder on a guy who cant kick. He can sure find the footy though.

Cornelius would have to be rocking the same boat. He has a skinny frame.. which isnt that good.
3rd/ maybe 4th I would be keen although i would rather a Zaharakis.

Edit - sorry forgot to mention Suban who, yes Neil will be keen on.. although your man Steele seems like the one I want most.

As I posted in another thread, I'm very intrigued by Paul Cahill.

Just has that knack for kicking alot of goals on a fairly consistant basis. Not through size, strength or speed but through pure footballing ability similar to Walker. Would make for an extremely dangerous Forward line if you added his and Walker's ability to kick goals to Tippett and Sellar's brute strength.

The beauty is due to his lack of Sturt seniors time (due to Sturt's strength this year, scored 2 or 3 goals in both reserves outings) and sole game in the U18 championships odds are he'd come relatively cheap.

Suban isn't quick, so that does work against him. While he's not tall I wouldn't say he's undersized for the role I'd see him playing at AFL (he has Sydney written all over him...which isn't too far off Adelaide at times).

He's a real soldier and he applies himself to every contest. On top of that he's a beautiful penetrating kick of the ball.

Point taken though. There are parts of his game that NC would love, but there's probably just as much he wouldn't like.

I wouldn't even rookie list Banner TBH. He never shirks a contest, but that's the only thing I like about him. He gets his hands on it plenty, but he's not damaging.

Zaharakis will be long gone. I'd be surprised if he's there by our second rounder. I've been told that Sydney and West Coast are particularly keen. I've always said that 14 clubs made a mistake by not taking Zaharakis as a bottom ager last year. Sydney and West Coast were the two clubs I excused because their drafts finished at Pick 26 and 22 respectively.

Not even rookie listing him is a bit harsh but I guess he isnt that damaging.

I think that Zaharakis could be available in our second rounder.
I find he is quite underrated. But with you saying that WCE are keen; they might get him with their second.

Maybe. I know there's a few people on BF that are keen on him, but he's 178cm, slow, isn't damaging and doesn't really have a position. I don't know what he's meant to bring to the table.

Completely different player, but to me the hype over him this year is like the hype over Ash Arrowsmith. I could never understand that one either, and sure enough he went third round in the rookie draft.

Opinion on Paul Cahill please?

Or just haven't seen enough of him?

I'm keen on Sam Blease.

But taking him with our first would be a little early but i'm not sure if he's gonna be there by our second.
